I hope I was able to shed some light on the actual racquets used by top WTA players. If you found some value in this video please tap the like button!
So nice to see someone has done some proper research and got their information correct. So many sites get this info wrong, Nice job and great video dude.
Thanks I appreciate it! Might be a few discrepancies but I did my best with the research. Hard to find this info about the WTA
Nice job, Mike! Much harder to find details on WTA pro racquet specs compared with ATP pros!
Thanks Jerome! Had to do a lot of online digging 😅
Thank you for this! You’re the best 😃
I just posted on your ATP racquet review: was surprised to hear about 345-355 grams bc I was expecting much “heavier” specs...
Like I was saying, her blade 98 16x19 with the Luxilon alu rough with 3-3/8 and 1x overgrip checks in at 320-325 grams, no lead. She tried the blade 100l but hated it bc it was too light and prefers the 98
I've been trying different replacement grips lately, I never really did before because I never wear the original grips out but these after market replacement grips are great! really high quality and so much better than the original! maybe a topic for a future video, just an idea 💡 thanks for this great video!!!
That’s a great idea. Many top players actually opt for a leather grip in order to get slightly more weight in the handle to balance out the weight the way they like.
@@MikeKomen I also played with some cheap Kmart tennis racquets back in the early 80's which had grips made out of cardboard! I'm not joking!! needless to say anything is better than cardboard grips haha
😂
Very interesting. Thanks 😊
Thanks for watching!
What you said is absolutely spot on about the Babolat Pure Drive - basically I've found that if your swing isn't crisp and technique isn't near perfect, you will not be able to truly enjoy the Babolat Pure Drive. Sure you can put balls in play from muscle memory but it will feel very forced in some ways.
I learned this, cleaned up my technique more for consistency and stable swing form and it was like I was using a totally different stick, everything worked so well and I started feeling zero pain after each session, so much so that I can actually lift weights and do weighted jump-ropes in the evenings.
That’s awesome Joseph! That’s one of the hidden pitfalls of modern racquets. Sometimes they do too much of the work for you or don’t provide enough feedback to know when your swing is crisp and when it isn’t.
Same here Joseph. I've gone back and forth from Babolat to Yonex. Now I'm back with the Pure drive as a more complete and technically sound player. It truly shines when you have clean technique. LIke there is a reason its always highly rated by tennis warehouse. The force and spin, and increasing control of this frame is at the top of its class. No wonder college players use this and the wilson blade
I was mad because you only took top 5 and then I subscribed when you paid respect to the greatest SW🤣😅
😂 glad to have you aboard Chris!
In the future, if you do another similar video, I would like to learn about the rackets that Sabalenka and Swiatek use. These 2 are moving up the ranks quickly and would be much higher now, if not for the Covid rules which skew the rankings. For example, Kenin would have lost a lot of points for her second-round loss in the Australian Open, but the rules basically freeze their rankings for a prolonged period of time (as long as 2 years instead of 1).
Will do. Thanks for watching!
I have sw102 and it has feelflex so its actually flexing more then my dr98. Sw102 list ra of 68 and dr of 62 but sw102 is actually flexy. I use the full 28 inches when serving then choke up on ever other shots. I cant go back to 27 inch racquets after sw102
I’ll have to try it!
@@MikeKomen keep it at under 52 pounds. Im using weiss ultra cable but going to try hyper g soft...racquet is a cheat code
Great video! Would love to see a video on players’ styles (agressive/defensive | flat/top spin etc) vs their rackets specs
That’s an awesome idea for a video! I’ll put it together soon. Thanks for watching!
Hi Mike,
I would like to know, if you refer to the unstrung racquet weight or the full equipped weight with strings, grip etc. when you're mentioning the specs of the players.
Sofia Kenin's Pure Drive for example, could also be an unstrung Pure Drive Tour with 315g of weight. That's why I'm just a bit confused
From what I read it was the strung weight that was referred to.
Ash Bartys Racquet is an 16/19 like you can see at 9:11 in this vid. The Head Gravity Pro has an 18/20 String pattern and the Gravity MP has 16/20. So cant by an Gravity... still great video, thank you very much
YouTek maybe?
How would you compare the spin capabilities of the vcore 95 and prestige pro? Also enjoyed the vid as i never really put much thought into this topic before
Thanks! I’d say the vcore gives you easier access to spin compared to the prestige.
@@MikeKomen thank you for the reply, would you say its easier access to spin, or that it has a higher spin ceiling, as i already have a very spinny technique due to table tennis, which btw i would recommend for those canada winters. Currently leaning towards getting the vcore 95, but really like the idea of the super stable head frame
@@MikeKomen also is your vcore 95 just stock or have you added weight?
Mine is stock. I’d say it has a higher spin potential and it’s easier to create spin. Stability is also pretty solid. Lol definitely need to get myself a table tennis table!
Commendable effort. Avoid marketing traps while choosing tennis gear. How our favourite player plays may be completely different than our style. Try to request for a trial racket and then try a few options on the strings and place your money there.
Great advice! I always say test before you buy
Barty uses the MP, not sure where you read this but just count the mains and you will see that it's a 16x20 pattern, aka Gravity MP
But if you count the crosses, there are 19, not 20. The plot thickens... I think it's an old Head Speed Youtek with a Gravity paint job.
Other 18X16 - my frame of choice: Prince Phantom 100P.
I love all the new Prince phantoms. The build quality is top notch!
Still waiting for WILSON to add a 27" version of the SW102 to the lineup. 28" is a bit much for a one handed backhand.
I want to know Li na ‘s racket. Plz
From what I found online, she uses a babolat pure drive with some tightly strung strings. Her mains are strung at 68lbs! Thanks for the comment fumiao
Federer use stock frame with little led on 12
etc
I made a video about all his racquets over his career up on my channel if you want to check it out!
I’m a big WTA fan. Really enjoyed the video, great work, thanks for making it!
Thanks for watching Andre!
Actually it is not unusual in sports like Ski Racing and Cycling for this difference in what they really use compared to the retail version. I remember at one time in pro cycling one rider had his favorite bike frame painted with the graphics of his new bike sponsor. He was not riding a frame manufactured by his sponsor.
I’m sure that’s the case in sports where equipment plays a big factor. Pro’s like what’s familiar.
Do you have info about Sharapova and Henin?
Also: the faking gear for endorsement reason, is it a XXI century idea or did it exist also in the 80's and 90's?
Didn’t look them up for this video but I’m sure you can dig up some info online without much trouble. Don’t know if it was as common in the 80s but definitely in the 90s. Agassi was notorious for it. For a while he didn’t even play with the same brand as the painted version 😂
What tennis racquet was Sharapova using?
Hey Erian, the most resent info I found suggests that she uses a Head Youtek radical pro. Hope that helps!
She used a 100 square inch radical.
Whats the proof of your points, would have helped like if zoomed on Elina Svitolana rackets for string pattern you mentioned is unique..Anyone can comment about racket if follow the player for sometime..
You can look up the info online. The purpose of the video was to show people that most WTA pros are not using the racquet they endorse, and to compile the info into one video. Thanks for watching!
Curious about Iga Swiatek's technifibre. The so called "racquet made only for women" 🙄
Serena😍
Sonya kenin a big fan of Andy Rodick may have been playing with a pure drive sold at stores since she was a youngster when she claimed she could return his serve hahaha there’s a UA-cam
That would be a really cool backstory!
This is the shorter version of john isner
Tommy Paul
