You guys would be a lifesaver for pond owners. We bought a house 3 years ago with a thirty foot waterfall that runs partly under a deck into a 5,000 gallon fish pond. The owner gave up and couldn't find the leak. We didn't even know that pros like you exist. We gathered up the fish and pumped the pond dry looking for a tear in the liner. There was none but we cleaned out dozens of buckets of rotting leaves, filled the pond and knew the leak must be in the run not the pond. We found a few places the leaks were happening - one in the plumbing, one in the UV light by pass, one at the attachment to the filter box and one or two in the run. We built up the edges of the run, fixed the final spillway into the pond where water was leaking between huge 500 pound boulders and used some quick dry concrete and more rocks to improve the look. To finish off we replaced the hundred feet of boardwalk with Trek to make maintenance easier. I think we've put in hundreds of hours to bring up the whole look and it is stunning. The big goldfish love it and it is the nicest thing about the house.
1. Don’t forget to circulate the pond first with the method you illustrated before you check the water fall. 2. Consider the amount of water that can evaporate per day caused by the sun plus anything that you can consider a leak. I am actually doing the same checking my wet land filter, pond and water fall separately. It’s time consuming but you have to do it.
They need regular top ups, especially in warm weather or if there's splashing. I use a downpipe rain harvester to help with this but in summer still need to top up with the hose now and then
Totaly wrong way of glueing fittings together you don't just push them together you need to twist the fitting a quarter of a turn slowly and you will feel resistance as you twist and that's how you should be glueing fittings

With a pondless waterfall, will you have to refill it regularly even without any leaks? (to account for evaporation, splashing, etc)

I got a leak in my waterfall. I’m going to try this if I can’t find it by checking the plants, rocks and liner edges.

Hi Sonia, If the biofalls has settled out of level. It needs to be dug up and re leveled,with a solid base under it.
So you could have to wait up to a week (potentially) to locate a leak??
Sometimes, it depends on how often you can check it , how fast it leaks, and how big the leak is.
