I was there on that wonderful evening the memories just came flooding back 1972 WEMBLEY. Loved OLSEN MAUGER BRIGGS saw those great Speedway riders at the SYDNEY SHOWGROUND AUSTRALIA in the late 60s up against our local HERO JIM AIREY WOW MEMORIES
Thx for this upload. As a Dane it made me physical sick each time Ole Olsen didn't win. He was the best speedway rider ever, but had too much bad luck at times. This evening he blew it himself in his first heat. Damn. 51 years ago now. My god, I'm getting old.
There was a time when the Kiwis ruled the world in speedway. Ivan Mauger (six), Ronnie Moore (two) and Barry Briggs (four). I watched one race and Mauger was on his way to win another world title and he was "centre punched" in the corner by a rider who did not even seem to attempt take the turn.
Bizarre to watch the start procedure compared to nowadays. Almost seem set up at times though to help Mauger, like on a couple of occasions he was a bike length behind the others lining up at the start, just moment before tapes up, and then would roll forward and it seemed the referee then decided to release the tapes as he was rolling towards them allowing him to carry his momentum forward while the others were stationary. Looked blatantly unfair tbh! More interesting in some ways then today, but in those examples, too favourable to the rolling rider (Mauger)
I was there👍Ole Olsen was rider of the night brilliant overtaking but tried too hard in his opening ride 😢 14 points would have won it however all action Ole never knowingly settled for 2nd best!

Remember watching that on tv. Great memories.
I was there too, went down on a slow bus from Teesside drinking cider at 13 ! My hero Bernt Persson was brilliant, just missing out. Great memories

Hans Nielsen is the best speedway rider for now in my opinion, but...now...becomes Bartosz Zmarzlik - he will become the greatest of the greatest

Back in the day's of proper speedway
Olsen in heat 2 was unbelievable.
Such a good quality of video considering the age.
The starting was just appalling but rules are rules I suppose.
Bloody hell!!!! I wanted to see Ivan cross the line. No finish?? Not impressed😡
Ivan was a white line gater miss the gate and he was crap
@@wilo1955 agreed,he seemed to give up if he didn't gate well
I saw my mate Arnie Haley beat mauger

Mauger used to roll at the start most times bit of a cheat
Поддеживаю полностью!!! Несправедливо!
well said, blatantly cheated at times
Impressive first up heat from the unknown Russian
Pity to have held such an important meeting on a typically badly prepared track
Man just shows you how much cheating at the start...roll up on the clutch..mauger would have only half his titles

Erm...
Awfull track ,
