I've had an idea like this for years, with other applications than spinning. You beat me to it!!!! Good job!!!! Love it!!!! 😃👍❤️

Hi. I have used your spinning wheel 3d models to make my own electric version and it was a total success with some modifications. Now, a lady ask me to convert her old treadle s. machine into a spinning wheel. An i have accepted the challenge. I must say i feel truly blessed finding your chanel. Thank you a lot.

LOVE the kids helping!! This is really a family project, teaching logistics and how stuff works!!
Just a thought, if you want to lessen that squeaking from the mandrel/bobbin connection, a nylon bushing (or bearings, if you can find tiny ones?) in both bobbin ends might help. Not sure what size your metal bobbin center is, so this may require a size adjustment on either the tube or the mandrel spike, but it would help with the metal on metal rubbing. A bearing in the back end of the mother of all, to hold the spike end of the mandrel, might help it spin easier as well. Just my own thoughts...
Edit: from the bloopers, spinning dog hair, I have a husky type mutt who sheds all year. I brush enough hair off her to literally make another dog. I do spin that brushed shedding, and it actually makes a surprisingly soft yarn as a 3 ply. For allergy purposes, dog hair may not be perfect, but it is useable.

Would be neat if you could also make this treadle weave fabric on a simple mechanised loom, then you would have one machine that could do all the processes of making fabric from A to Z. Also would be a good idea to do a modular treadle with a lathe that can also be a scroll saw or buzz saw, keeping it modular so you could use the same treadle set up for all the processes. I know people did make hybrid lathe + scroll saws, and i also know that treadle buzz saws did exist, so it should work.

Along with maker spaces and family friends, many public libraries have a 3D printer available to the public.

Awesome idea! Now I have a question.....as a spinner, I need to be able to spin "S" twist and "Z" twist. So when plying the yarn can be balanced. Can your machine reverse to the opposite twist? Thanks!!!

This might be a weird question, but would a treadle machine like this be usable from the "back"? Meaning the wheel/driver is on your left and the opening of the flyer on your right?
I am a lefthanded person and as such, having it "flipped" would be a more comfortable way to use it for me, but I'm not sure if that's possible with these treadles from sewing machines. I've been looking into building a treadle spinning wheel for a while but not many lefties out there with these same ideas, it seems!

It's very much a diy project. That kind of customization should work. Go for it! JB

I'm so glad I found your Channel. You're EXACTLY the kind of person I'm looking for. I have some questions and maybe some ideas about spinning, 3D printing, and maybe recycling.
My name is Tory Evans. My big thing is DIY at-home recycling and modernizing old school crafting to use on modern materials. To steal a line from your Gandhi video. I'm interested in starting a "cottagecore industrial revolution" but for recycling.
I have recently become interested in spinning wheels because I'm wondering if they could be used to spin plarn cord from grocery bags. I don't like most plarn methods. I've found that my preferred method is to make a rubber band chain pattern, spin it, and then pull it slightly to stretch the plastic into place. Very similar to regular yarn spinning. Do you think this could work? Would you be interested in trying it? What kind of wheel could be good for this?
I'm also curious if a 3d printed spinning wheel could be designed that uses filaments spools as a bobbin. I'm not sure if its too wide to work. I haven't quite wrap my head around the intricacies of spinning yet. I can't even tell if the bobbin is supposed to spin freely or not. But if that works then that could be a great use for all the trash filament spools.

What an interesting idea! 🤔 The filament spools would need a little modification to attach either a break band or a drive band, but it should be really easy to 3d print that attachment and even make it removable so that you replace the spool on the wheel but not the attachment.
Also, for spinning plarn, I think that should work, though I haven't tried it before. If you're looking to stretch the plarn as you add twist, then you want something with a very strong uptake that almost wants to pull the yarn out of your hands as you're spinning. For that, an Irish, bobbin drive wheel is probably best.
What sorts of inventions are you working on? Long live the cottage industrial revolution! JB

@@GoodandBasic Sorry for the late reply. I had a long response typed out and then lost it. It takes weeks to recover from that. LOL
Anyway, thank you so much. I didn't realize there were different mechanisms. That alone is very helpful. I may try and 3D print/build my own wheel but I wish I could get my hands on the different kinds first.
My big invention right now is the LE-Press. It's an extremely affordable and easy-to-use device that anyone can build and enables people to recycle on their own by hand safely. The largest benefit is that I've been able to recycle genuinely useful stuff without the need for an expensive custom built shredder. Everything's on my channel if you're interested.

🤣 Almost everyone knows someone that has a 3D printer. ... I have never met a person, in-person, that has one. I thought they were very rare and I thought it was something you find only, really, with online people.
