So glad to hear Math Mammoth was a win! I got the blue series to try switching my oldest from Singapore to MM! They seem similar yet MM appears more teacher friendly with potential for more independence. Hoping it goes well!

Thank you for your videos, I love your style! I just wanted to say that A Gentle Feast has a beautifully simple LA program! It covers everything. We switched over from TGTB and it has been a God send! For math, we are gonna try SCM 🤞

Excited to see what curriculum you choose for this fall. I used MWC for my 1st grader this past year. I had to start simplifying the lessons about halfway through. She was getting so bored with the long drawn out teacher portion. I am planning to use it with her for 2nd grade and for my rising Kindergartener. I feel like the math foundation it’s provides is so so good. My older kids use Apologia and it’s a similar approach but much simpler. Not nearly so many games and manipulatives.

I agree that the foundation of MWC is incredible! I wish there was a “Simply MWC” haha, without all the games. I felt stressed constantly adjusting the lesson on the fly to do less. But it really is an incredible foundation! I looked into apologia for this year and it does seem similar - glad to hear it’s a bit less games and manipulatives.

Why do you wish you would’ve started with world history ?

I was reading The Well-Trained Mind, and the author had a couple of compelling thoughts on why we should start with ancient history:
"The logical way to tell a story is to begin [...] at the beginning and go on till you come to the end. Any story makes less sense when learned in bits and pieces" (Bauer & Bauer, p. 124)
"Furthermore, you probably started with American history (which is pretty near the end of the story as we know it) and then spent at least twice as much time studying American history as you did studying the rest of the world. Yes, American history is important , but this myopic division of the curriculum does the Founding Fathers a disservice. Children who plunge into the study of the American Revolution with no knowledge of the classical models used by Jefferson, Washington , and their colleagues can achieve only a partial understanding of American government and ideals. And American history ought to be kept in perspective: the history curriculum covers seventy centuries; America occupies only five of them" (Bauer & Bauer, p. 124).
      I hope these thoughts help!

Great video!! Wondering what you may move to from AAR 1. We are enjoying it too but like you, it’s moving a little slowly for us too.

I totally agree about using a classical language arts approach. We have loved using FLL and WWE! Great video! I definitely want to check out some of those hits!

I absolutely love Math with Confidence or at least the concept of it, as I’ve studied it over and over again. But couldn’t ever buy it. 😆. I did not want to follow a script for math or spend the time with games . I wanted something more open-and go math, and let math come naturally in my children’s life--cooking, laundry, coins/shopping, etc. So we use MasterBooks and it works great for that. But for two of my kids, I did have them to do Math with Confidence Kindergarten workbooks to trace the numbers daily. I think that helped them pretty well to not write the numbers as reversals. By the way, been enjoying your videos. Thank you!

I didn’t use any of the activities for all about spelling either! I went on eBay and bought all the levels of the previous editions, which doesn’t include any worksheets. Just the cards and the teacher manual.

Definitely agree about The Story of Jesus People. We ended up returning it and the Africa (level 5) after 6-7 weeks. Their return policy (100%) is fantastic!

We use Jesus' people as well and I've just always called it church history ha ha I didn't even notice the history label on the top. The author states that the goal of the providential history series is to show how Christianity spreads throughout the world and the first book is an overview. I used it to replace Trial and Triumph in the AO list because my children are all under 7. I would love to know more about math mammoth!

Church History makes so much more sense for a title! I'm glad your family has enjoyed the curriculum!
