I applied as a field Adjuster but the recruiter stated that they have a remote position as a desk adjuster. I do have my adjuster license DHS 70-20. I’m not xacimate certified yet working on that now. And I don’t have my adjuster physically yet. I did the fingerprints a couple weeks ago. What’s your take? Essentially I want to be in the field. But I was thinking if the $ is decent I may accept the desk adjuster.

I'm so very happy I found your blog, I'm starting my second career and I've been researching Adjusters. At first I was considering the Claims adjuster which required you to climb roofs absolutely not lol. But I love how you clarified the different roles and duties so beautifully. I'm definitely leaning towards auto because I do feel more knowledgeable about vehicles than the true bones of a house. My question is do I still take the course on claims adjuster to do auto? To answer your question, whatever company you work with will definitely give you training on claims investigation and expectations for that particular role. It’s not necessarily a class, but more the intro training you’d get for any job. And I feel you on the roof climbing that’s not where we should be anyway lol!

Question, is it best to apply for field/desk jobs right after I get the all lines license? Should I take some online training course then apply? If so, which courses are best for NEW ADJUSTERS? ❤
Hi thank you so much for watching!! Personally I’d suggest desk jobs if you’ve never done claims before so you can learn the processes then move into field once you have experience. I’ve never taken any Courses outside of those offered by my companies. Once you get into a role you’ll be provided training so it’s not necessary that you look for courses on your own unless you want to. Good luck to you!

I also did my Xactimate Level One and got my State Farm Cert through Crawford. Thank you so much for watching and I’m happy you found it useful! Congrats also on getting licensed and the Xactimate certifications that’s amazing. As far as where that all depends where you live. For example I’m in California and my understanding is some companies have pulled out of our market due to pricing and such so when I’m looking for work, I stick to the basics. Key word searches for the specific role I want, and once I find companies offering jobs I’ll go the specific company’s website for more in depth search. For you since you’re new to the industry I’d suggest search for entry level adjuster and adjuster trainee roles to get your foot in the door. Good luck to you and I hope you find something soon 💕💕
I just got my first deployment and had my first day today with just doing the basic Workday app training, it’s a CAT deployment with SF and I’m bracing myself for the beast!

Great video. Great info. I worked in P&C from 2016-2020. Left insurance. Went into home building from 2020-2023. Now just got my adj license and I’m learning xactimate .. trying to gain all the info I can to try and be the best equipped I can to go into field adjusting ❤

As a female, I thank you for addressing this topic. I am a desk auto adjuster getting 7-10 new claims a day also (we both know it is a beast and we earn every last penny!) However, I'm thinking of going to law school within the next 2 yrs and exploring the IA role and work CAT storms and daily claims/auto in bwtn. However, I cant find any videos, where a womanly especially will address having to climb roofs in the adj field on UA-cam. If you had to climb roofs, I would love a video on how they train you and how to do it safely. I feel you on SIU but those people seem to die (not even retire) out of those jobs, Lol! Anyway, I have an upcoming interview for GL general liability role- the field work in that is going to mediations, arbitrations and court so, that my be more up my ally considering my plans...IDK, we'll see. To answer your question on climbing roofs, the company I worked for we did have climb them from time to time but only 1 story and it had to be 3pt composition (I believe that was the name of the material). Anything more than a story or a different material we had to call a roofer. The training I had was only a day 🤦🏽♀️ and they basically just showed us how to hold the ladder, proper way to climb and proper way to open and close. I’m sorry I don’t have more info but whatever route you choose they should provide a safety training and demonstration for climbing 😊

I'm in the Atlanta market and most homes are 2 story but I understand that there is some drone usage and ladder assist w/roofing companies like you mentioned for virtual desk adjusting. That may be a route also, I'll just keep investing in training, asking questions and see what happens. I just ran across your channel today, watched some vids and vibing with your content. Personally if I did the homeowner role again I’d want to do it virtually (I hated climbing roofs lol). Keep looking though there are a lot of companies hiring for these roles, and also the IA role would be perfect for you since you’re considering law school. Yes, definitely safety training or it could be a claim in itself. Just curious seems there would be some type of company guideline to reference to establish roof damage for an accurate estimate instead of actual climbing. Does the insurance companies have that information for their adjusters to go by? I understand the adjuster has to know the roof material type and the measurements also if it’s not a complete replacement the adjuster would need to know how to write up a repair estimate. How do you know these things or do you get some information from a roofer? There’s a lot of construction materials to cover for damage assessment to reach an estimate. Materials I’m not familiar with but off the top of my head I assume roofing nails, the tarp papering, roofing tar, nails and singles or roof type then checking if the main wood has damage underneath. I am interested in homeowners but the roof estimates are making me think vehicle adjuster instead. And that’s the only drawback for me. I am interested in Homeowners just not the roof! lol Oh, I read one comment mentioning a drone and that seems like a great way to access roof damage safely. Again, in short are their guidelines to help the adjuster reach an accurate estimate? Great information I have liked and subscribed and I will be searching your other videos to help me on my newly found career endeavor. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to your other videos.

Thank you for watching! The pay for either role is based on experience. In my case, when I moved to the field adjuster role it was a lateral move because I had no experience in that department. Now however since I have the experience I can negotiate a higher salary. As far as the hours it’s the same, you just have to be really good at time management in the field because of drive time and physically having to inspect your claims. I hope that helps 💕
I’m in the hiring process with geico for the auto adjuster trainee position and the videos I’ve seen are saying the workload is overwhelming and stressful and that’s scares me but I find hope knowing what I’m up against if I’m hired and I am an organized person who multitasks daily with my passion hobbies so hopefully it spills into the job
That’s great congratulations on your insurance journey. It’s definitely a heavy workload at times and it can be stressful trying to keep up with your company goals and please your customers. The best adjusters create a system that works for them to make sure their files stay organized and they handle issues in a timely manner. You’ll be fine once you get the hang of it though 💕💕

Great video! very informative. My question: you mentioned call center, is the desk adjuster job very phone heavy like a sales job where you're on the phone ALL day? Do most desk staff adjusters work independently or is it super corporate?
Thank you so much and I appreciate you watching! To answer your question no as a claims adjuster it’s not as heavy on the phones as a typical call center. Depending how busy you are and how many claims you have some days are more heavy than others but the pace is doable as long as you respond timely and control escalations. Also most adjusters do work independently, you get your claims and you handle them per the company guidelines. The only time there will be meddling from upper management is if you have escalated issues like not paying in a timely manner or not returning calls. Hope that helps! 😊

Thank you so much for watching and I’m glad you’re enjoying them! I hear you I have a 3 year old and working from home gives so much more freedom to move around. So I got trained as an entry level adjuster in auto and then in homeowners. I live in CA so it’s not required for all companies to have an adjuster license but the company im with now does require it since we work on out of state claims. They provided the course for us through Adjuster pro. I’m not sure of all the other online classes but I can vouch for that site. Good luck to you there is plenty of opportunity available in this industry 💕💕

Thank you for this video! I’m in life insurance but I have someone in mind for insurance adjuster. For life insurance broker you don’t need a high school diploma, GED, or college degree. Is that the same for an insurance adjuster? Hope you see this comment and thank you for your time in responding!
You’re so welcome and thank you for watching! Yes typically in insurance they will want you to have at least a high school diploma/GED but a college degree isn’t required for all companies. If anything licensing may be required but most companies will with pay for or reimburse their employees for getting it.

Hey I love your content I have a question. I’m right now in the state review process for my Tx all lines my home state is TX. I’ve been waiting for now 3 months. (Full disclosure I had a past criminal record involving moral turpitude which is expunged 🤦🏾♀️) I also got my level 2 xactimate certification. My question is if I was to be denied for my license, can I go through a company? Or can I get a license from another state?? I do have a residence in Illinois but I don’t think that that state requires any license. If you have any insight into this I would greatly appreciate it.

Umm honestly that’s a great question but I don’t have a definitive answer, what I will say is this: If this becomes an issue I’d suggest trying to get hired by a company and going that route because the company now becomes the sponsor which may make it easier for you to get the license. As far as other states Florida is another good state to try to get licensed in. If I get more info on this I will circle back, but I hope that helps. Good luck to you!!

@@kelatrishaan6435 I got approved and I’m deployed working with big blue. Inside adjuster On the supplements team (fml🤦🏾♀️) but I’m learning. Almost 50 days in closing on average 3 claims a day. I’m super grateful that I didn’t give up. And got my TWIA certification and SF property certification (failed the auto though 🤦🏾♀️) thanks for replying to me and sharing your content. So I just got introduced to being an adjuster I'm about to purchase the course here soon so I can take the exam.. in Indiana my state doesn't require a background check nor fingerprints.. Im still a little nervous because I have a misdemeanor of Marijuana.. nothing serous being young and dumb.. I was wondering how that would that effect my chances of successfully obtaining my lincense and a job... any insight?...
I am very interested in becoming an adjuster and I am looking more so as a desk adjuster. What would you say the salary range for a desk adjuster vs. field adjuster vs. independent adjuster. Also are Independent Adjuster & Field Adjuster the same ? Also what about the work hours? I have heard that some work 7-7 and 8-5 on saturday and some work 7 days a week. I am all for work, but that I TOO MUCH. Can you kinda let them know that I can only work certain days and hours or you take what you can get?
I have a video where I compare staff adjuster vs independent adjuster vs public adjuster which should give you some insight into the differences. The salary range depends where you live and the company. A lot of adjuster roles start between $40-$50k a year for entry level, after you have at least a year or so of experience you can try for a field role which will pay you more. Most companies are Monday through Friday 8-5pm, but the workload is where you would see those crazy hours. You don’t have to work them but a lot of us will here and there to stay on top of workload. Routines are key to keep work life balance

Thank you so much I appreciate it! Regarding the roof most places will only want you to get on a 1 story roof with not too steep of a pitch so it’s not that hard. However I myself haven’t climbed in years and usually get a roofer to do their inspection and provide me with the report and results.

I’m not familiar with NC but I’d recommend looking for entry level adjuster roles or trainee roles in your area if you’re interested in staff adjuster. That way the courses will be provided by your company and you learn on the job. If you’re looking to go the IA route I’d suggest checking your department of insurance website for resources on course work and next steps.

I just retired from the trucking industry (Dept of Defense) and was wondering if there were companies that specialize in Commercial vehicles (claims) because I know that like the back of my hand?? Hello and thank you for your comment! To answer your question yes there are companies that have a commercial claims department, and typically it would just be an extension of the auto department. Most major insurance companies offer this so you wouldn’t have to look too far if this is something you’d like to do. Regarding licensing, my company actually set me up to study the materials and take the tests, but I’d recommend going on the insurance commissioner website for your state (not all states require you to be licensed) and they will provide you with training facilities and self study options.

Hey, good question. I believe personally right now more than ever it’s possible to find a work from home insurance job. I’d research the starting pay though in your area to see if it’s something you can do since it seems you’re already established in healthcare. Check out “remote desk adjuster” roles through indeed, or go straight to company sites of insurance companies that hire in your area to see what’s available. Good luck to you! 💕

Congratulations and best of luck on getting your license, and I’m happy it helped thank you for watching! I don’t have experience as an IA unfortunately I’ve only been a staff adjuster. From what I know however, just make sure you’re super organized because you’ll be dealing with the policies of different insurance companies which means the way you estimate something on one policy may not be the same as the next. This will save you time from having the insurance company come back to you for revisions, and you can move on to the next project ✨✨

@@keviaxoxo going good so far, I started out on an auto deployment right after this comment did that for 3 months then worked as a staff property adjuster for 6 months now I’m back on a deployment for auto again now. I do want to mention that it will be super hard and stressful at first but definitely worth it once you get more comfortable with the overall claims process. Definitely can make a career in this field, it’s a lot of opportunity to make really good pay
I'm considering starting a career in insurance adjusting, I work a fulltime, rotating shift job. Are there companies that will hire someone part-time to gain experience on my days off?
In my experience I’ve never seen a part time adjuster job. I think the reason is because of the amount of work, it’s not really something you’d be able to do part time. You may be able to do part time in a call center of an insurance company where you’d take the incoming calls from people filing a claim, which would expose you to that part, and you can eventually move into an adjuster role when you’re ready to apply.
How can I get a cali license, I live here and I have no experience and they want me to get any adjuster license outside california then you can wave the experience requirement, kindly assist me how can I get other state license even my state offer a license but with restriction i tuck in the middle
Honestly I’m not sure about the Cali license my company had us licensed through Florida which can transfer to the surrounding states. I’d personally suggest starting entry level as a staff adjuster or even looking into being an IA and they can provide you with the proper steps to get licensed. Since I got it through my company I just followed their instructions.

In the field adjuster position, are you expected to use you own vehicle and pay for fuel and repairs from your own pocket?
No, most companies will give you a vehicle, gas card and also pay for the maintenance.
Can you also talk about the claims adjuster licensing?
Yeah I can put together a video discussing licensing, I’ll put something together.
I did Desk adjustment once and didn’t understand it like how to figure out the pay out and so forth.
I’m sorry you had that experience. You’re supposed to be walked through all of this before you start taking claims.
Ok I just got my Texas adjuster license. I have history in real estate but I'm confused as to where to go from here? I've never been good at 8 to 5 gigs but Is this what I should do for experience to do field work? Any advice please! Thanks so much for this!
Congratulations on getting your license!! I can understand being hesitant to do an 8-5 especially coming from real estate where you’d make your own schedule. You can go about getting the experience 2 ways: the first would be working for a company as a desk adjuster so you learn claims then after about a year you can transfer to a field role. The other way if you want to get straight to it is look for IA (independent adjuster) roles where you’d be more of an independent contractor. I’ve never been an IA so I’m sorry I don’t have info on how to start, but the ones I know make their own schedule and aren’t tied to an office. I start with State Farm in July 17 for Home and Commercial Claims any advice? I come from the mortgage industry. And its a 12 week training.
Congrats on the new job, I’ve never done commercial claims, but the key for almost claims jobs is organization. The workload can be heavy so have routines in place to make sure you can get to all you need to do and stay on track. Also, be comfortable making decisions. A lot of adjusters get stuck because they get afraid of making the wrong decision, but the sooner you make a decision, the sooner you get to the next claim and if you make a mistake it’s not the end of the world, it’s a learning experience. Hello, finding a job as an adjuster just starting out isn’t hard at all, a lot of companies offer trainee/entry level roles. As far as the pay it depends what you think is good, in my experience a new adjuster can make between $35k-$50k per year depending on the company and area you live. Yes it can be very stressful sometimes depending on your claims load and type. To do this job and minimize stress you have to be very organized and good with time management. Hope that helps!

I did not see this specific question in the comments: as a property field adjuster, are you required to climb rooftops? If not, are there times when you aren't able to find a contractor to do it (what happens then)? And when a contractor does the climbing, who pays them?
Also, what about "creepy" home owners, feeling safe as a woman, or dangerous situations like dogs or bad neighborhoods? How do employers expect you to handle those?

Regarding the rooftops and are we required to climb the answer is yes and no. Most companies will want you to climb a one story roof but if you don’t feel safe doing so you can call a roofer. The insurance company will pay for that. There aren’t many situations where a company can’t come out so I’m not sure what would happen in that situation. Inspection just may be postponed until it’s safe to do so.
As a woman I use my best judgement and if I feel a situation is questionable I will either inspect it virtually or I’ll ask a vendor to come with me. Managers are good about coming too if they live near. All you have to say is you don’t feel safe and that’s it, they will figure out an alternative because employee safety is first:

Hi! I’ve never been an IA, but I would suggest applying for a company if you can so they can sponsor you. Most companies will pay for your license if you work for them or at least reimburse you, so I always suggest that so you can save your money but still get your license.

Hey there! I’m a field adjuster and those are remote roles, we just have to go inspect the damages in person but we do our desk work from home. Some roles don’t require in person adjuster inspections and determinations can be made by reviewing reports and photos which may be what your husband does. Hello, so that I don’t know off top because I’m no longer in the market since I started my new job at the end of the year. I found my jobs however by creating a profile on indeed and selecting the option that I was in the market so recruiters would reach out to me. A desk adjuster just handles the claim virtually, from investigation to payment to assisting with setting up vendors.
What all does a field ajuster do for do they try to settle whit u on ur case
A field adjuster inspects the damage to determine if there is coverage. If there is they prepare an estimate for the damages and if there isn’t they prepare a decline letter based on the policy. We also review counter estimates, set people up with temp housing, etc. It all depends on the claim.

I am an insurance agent for 17 years and curious about the desk adjuster role. I guess my question is, if I dont know much about cars/homes "structure" or how they work 😂 is it too difficult or do you think training helps you with the knowledge you need?
Training will for sure help you gain the knowledge, but in my experience you’ll also need to do some research on your own to really understand. Get a mentor, watch UA-cam videos, google the name of key words, etc. It takes time to get comfortable but once you are it’s much less overwhelming 🙌🏼
I’m starting soon as a desk adjuster and I think I underestimated how often I would be on the phone. I have a 4 year old loud child so it will be interesting during those times when he is home. Is it really a call center type deal where it’s constant calls? 🥴
Good question…first congrats on your new gig, 2nd no it’s different than a call center which is a blessing. You will have moments of low call volume and you’ll have moments of heavy call volume but you can control it. For example If I’m in the middle of something crucial I will let my phone go to voicemail in that moment unless it’s a call I was expecting to finish what I need to do. Personally I feel it’s perfect if you have kids because you can set up your work in a way that works for you as long as you’re getting your work done.

A lot of companies will prefer a degree, but I’ve known people that don’t have a degree become adjusters. Some places will require licensing though which is relatively easy to get.

What did you find the most challenging when you started in the field?
For me the most challenging thing working in the field was the technical part. It was my first role working from home and my first role working on the home owners side, so I had no idea about construction materials or when contractors/vendors were trying to get over on me. It was EXTREMELY stressful but I stayed in touch with my training team, senior colleagues and I made sure to ask for help because I would have drowned if I didn’t. It got better and I eventually was able to do the job with my eyes closed but it took about a year to 1.5 years for that to happen.

Yes ma’am you’re on the right track for sure. They should offer you extensive training but there will be things you will have to learn on the job. I also suggest being professional friends with the vendors so they will be more likely to help you and not try to take advantage of you. You’ll be fine just prepare yourself and always ask your team questions if you get stuck.

Is there a pay difference between the two positions can you explain?
Typically field adjusters will get paid more because they have to physically inspect and need more technical skill to do so. Pay is also dependent on how long you’ve been doing the job and how complex your role is so there are a lot of factors that are considered when it comes to salary.

If you’re a staff adjuster like myself, you’re either hourly or salary and just work the claims assigned to you. I’m not sure how that would work as a desk adjuster since I’ve never worked independent.

In this video I’m discussing field adjuster vs desk adjuster at an insurance company. From what I’ve heard (I’ve never been an independent adjuster) it’s possible to work that amount of hours but that can be the case for any adjuster depending on the workload.

@@sagelaw7486 no worries! The starting pay in insurance with no experience is for sure lower in my experience but once you do have experience and depending what department you’re in that pay range is very realistic.

Yes and no. Typically IAs will do the physical portion of inspecting, and putting together an estimate/report based on the insurance companies guidelines. Then that info is given to whoever the handling insurance company is to go over with the customer, make the payment and follow up. As an adjuster for an insurance company we’re responsible for the physical portion and the customer service part.

It depends where you live, most companies that hire staff adjusters will hire you entry level. Try Allstate, Progressive, State Farm, etc. I’d also recommend hoping on Indeed to see an overview of entry level adjuster roles/adjuster trainee roles.

Fannie Moore very fair question. The starting range for an adjuster with no experience is about $40-$50k depending where you live. I started on the low end of that. Now I’ve been doing it for some time and I don’t work for the same company so I make a good amount more. You can make up to 6 figures BUT you’d likely have to move around company’s because with yearly raises you likely won’t get there any time soon. Hope that makes sense.

Fannie Moore yes exactly, so basically if you start around $40k most companies give about a 2-3% increase per year. My advice is always to build your experience and after about a year or two in your current role, if your raises don’t match the workload/experience, time to start looking elsewhere where you can negotiate a higher salary based on experience.

You’re welcome I’m happy to help. I completely agree with doing the research it’s better to be as informed as possible before making taking the leap to a new career. To answer your question regarding commercial and death claims I don’t have much experience with those, they are typically handled by specific departments. I have had claims that include a death, but that portion would be handled by a casualty adjuster.
I likethe desk option. I saw a field inspection and I refuse to get on a roof.
I hear you. You most likely won’t have to climb even in the field role because we have roofers and better technology these days but the desk option will ensure you don’t have to.

Plenty of us have been working from home with our kids due to the pandemic so it’s possible, very hard at times but possible. My job is computer and phone calls so I just time the phone calls around his naps or when he’s occupied.

I can manage calls while kids are in school but I was worried about disgruntled clients hearing my kids lol. Good luck to you on your next interview! The best advice I can give is to prepare as much as you can the day before (clothes ready, meals/snacks prepped, and activities). I have a pretty good system because my son knows mommy is working but he’s only 2 so sometimes I just have to put work on hold for a little bit and tend to him. Make sure you’re taking your breaks and lunches so you can take care of yourself and tend to the babies if needed. You just have to take it day by day honestly because not everyday will look the same. As far as disgruntled clients I wouldn’t worry about them lol in my experience most people understand the times we’re in and a lot of people will give you grace. In fact sometimes when my customers hear him in the background it lightens the mood. You got this, it’s not easy but you’ll make it happen.

That’s a great question! So it’s more of a task list. You do get incoming calls and some days are heavier than others, but most companies will allow you to set your phone to a sort of do not disturb setting for a small amount of time so you can get your work done, you just have to be sure to return any voicemails if you get them.

It depends what you consider hard. From my experience the hardest part is in the beginning when you’re learning everything. Once you know what you’re doing and how to navigate the policy to work your claims, the hard part is staying on top of everything. It’s great experience but it’s not for everyone if I’m being honest, at least long term.

Congrats on getting licensed! There are a couple ways to find desk adjuster positions and a lot of companies are hiring. 1st you can do some reviews of the insurance companies that do business in your area and when you find one you like simply search remote adjuster (if you want to work from home) or desk adjuster and there you go. My preferred method is starting an indeed profile with your preferences and having them email you whenever that job is available where you live so you can apply right away. I hope that helps.
