Good to see you Mr. Wheeler. Your last comment really said it all. “ IF YOU TAKE CARE OF THE TRUCK, IT WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU.” So far I’ve done everything I’ve needed to keep it running and looking like a gem. Sometimes maintenance can be time consuming but it pays off in the long run. Justin, if nothing gets posted due to the holiday season, you have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

The term “if you take care of your truck it will take care of you”. That is talking about preventative maintenance, oil changes, transmission flush, all fluid changes, tune up,air filter, fuel filter, and so on,it’s not talking about your vehicle breaking down on you way before it should on multiple occasions,

Except for the fact that the engineers have designed the truck to last about 5 years, that way the average person has to buy a new one right after they finish paying it off.

Here's the deal with the tailgate. It seems from slamming the tailgate closed, over time, cause the posts that stick out form the bed sides to eventually work their way inward, towards the front of the bed. this eventually causes too much holding pressure on the latch mechanism and one or both can't release. This is why you have to push the tailgate in pretty hard for it to release.
Loosen the pins with a star head bit on a ratchet wrench just enough so they can move slightly. Then close and open the tailgate gently several times until it opens easily with the fob. Then retighten the posts snug. Also, using silicone spray lube on each latch mechanism every 6 months helps to keep things in order too.

Further proof every one of these pickup trucks are only skin deep. These long term "reliable" trucks are just over maintained by owners and would have otherwise completely fallen apart by now. I think a pickup should be built to last at least 500k miles if it truly is built for work and towing. Doesn't matter what brand of pickup they're all equally terrible nowadays.

I have a 2018 Tundra with 187k on it with zero issues. Never have had to replace anything execution fluids and filters as well as spark plugs. Sounds as solid as it did when I drove it off the lot with 14 miles on it. I also tow a 8000lb trailer every week. The RAM is a way better looking Truck, but I would never spend my hard earned money on one to save my life! I purchased, 3/2019 a new 2019 1500 BigHorn 4x4 quadcab. Yesterday, 1/31/23 now with 20,700 miles total with a little snow on the roads in Missouri I went to put into Auto 4WD and got a failed notice on the dash. No 4WD options work at all. This truck has only been put into 4WD probably 5 times in its life, and has never had a ball plugged into the receiver. Took it to the dealer today, 2/1/23 to have it diagnosed. They say they will need to install a new transfer case. Ordered one and will install next week under warranty thankfully. Not feeling real warm and fuzzy about these crap America trucks. For a rig with under 21k miles, I'm far from impressed. I'm an OTR truck driver and own 4 2019 KW T680 trucks. This Ram giving me more grief that any of my OTR trucks, especially for a truck that sits in the garage most its life.

I had the driver's side manifold replaced earlier this year, it had the dreaded crack. It was noisy and you could smell it. On super cold mornings, I can smell a whiff on the passenger side now, which will likely need attention next year. It's not loud or as smelly as the driver's side was, so I will monitor for now. It tightens/seals up quickly after a few seconds of running and sometimes won't even exhibit those symptoms at all.
I also have the original brake pads and rotors at 75k miles, and they show very little sign of needing replacing any time soon with my mixed city/highway driving.
The only recurring issue I had and still sort of have, is the sticking drive shaft slip yoke on the rear portion (crew cab long bed, technically a 3-piece shaft). I just got used to it and don't care anymore. It makes a little jolt sometimes when letting off the brake at a stop. Shaft was replaced twice, it's just the design that sucks.

Traded it in on a 2017 Silverado 1500 High Country with the 6.2L and its been great. It has a MUCH smaller windshield that held up much better, but still needed to be replaced after 5 years. Overall my Ram was okay but so far I've had a much better, and less work needed (with the exception of recalls, had wayyy more of those on the Silverado over the years but all were free obviously) experience with my Silverado. While I do love the look, and the Hemi, of the Dodge, after owning this Silverado and the Ram id be much more inclined to buy a Silverado over a Ram in the future after owning both for 5 Years each.

Sometimes my keyless entry doesn’t want to work until I grab the handle 3-4 times. Sometimes when I go to roll the front windows up, they start to go up and the immediately roll down, memory seats and mirrors didn’t work from day 1. Dealer said when it was built, the option wasn’t programmed 🤔. Dealer fixed it, but now every time I get into my truck, the memory seat and mirrors (if using tilt in reverse) never quite go back to saved settings. If I hit the memory button, they go back to the saved position. I still love my truck, but these little quirks get annoying.

If you don't figure out the clunking noise here's a possible solution, if your truck has a 2 piece driveshaft, take the boot off of the larger half and inspect the "slip joint" under the boot, if it's only dry, put grease in the spines, or, the splines that are very shallow have been known to break or slip. I have been happy with my 2019 Bighorn with 158k miles in 4 years. It has had one exhaust manifold replaced and twice now replaced bolts on both sides. Much to my surprise, the starter died at 70k miles but that has been the only issue (non exhaust related) with the engine.
The big repair issues have been the air suspension compressor completely failed and had to be replaced out of warranty. But I love the ride of the air suspension and would get it again in a heartbeat! The passenger LED taillight failed and had to be replaced out of warranty. The center display behind the steering wheel died and was replaced under warranty. I had the leaky 3rd stop light that left a stain on the head liner but it was also replaced under warranty.
No issues with transmission, transfer case, or drivelines/CV joints.
I have always needed to push in on the tailgate as I pull on the handle to get it to release. So far no cracks or chips on my windshield.
I change my oil every 7-8k miles whenever it gets to about 25% on the gauge. The brakes on this truck are truly impressive. Still the OEM pads at 158K!
My biggest disappointment has been the 20" factory wheels. I have replaced two that have been bent/cracked hitting potholes (bad Kansas roads). I plan on moving to 18" wheels with my next tire change. I find that the aluminum panels dent easily (hood and tailgate). I have a number of dings on the hood from rocks thrown up from other cars.
But all things considered, I would buy another one. It is such a comfortable truck to drive.

Your video was interesting to me. I have a 2015 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel with 240k miles. Like you, I love this truck, but I also have never had so many issues with a vehicle. Leaking rear window - leaking windshield at the passenger side handle, failed steering knuckle, failed power steering actuator. At 30k, a seat vibration that nobody could figure out, after new wheels, tires, force balancing, drive shaft balancing, and driving a vibrating truck for 150k miles, I eventually replaced the front cv axles and the 70 mph shake went away (poor design). EPA emission issues out the butt when new, was at the dealer numerous times for constant idiot light problems, many electrical connector issues, glow plug failures, cracked egr valve housing (eventually fixed under factory recall) but consumed many gallons of expensive RAM "special" antifreeze before the recall. Water pump failure. More to list, but you get my point.
Like you however, I have pulled hundreds of very heavy loads / trailers. I plow with it in the winter. The comfort of its ride is spectacular, the power / fuel mileage ratio is great. It's 2 WD traction is excellent, to where I rarely use the 4wd, and I live in hilly Missouri. I take great care of my vehicles, my 2015 still looks almost new. it still runs great, shifts great, etc... but I thought that maybe I bought a truck that was manufactured on a holiday weekend with all of the problems, but it sounds like your Ram is riddled with issues as well, some of them being the same which tells me that Ram isn't very interested in improving their product quality. Thanks for making the video and Merry Christmas!

Now for the tailgate I get the same issue.
My 2019 has 42k miles now and I did bring it in while it was under warranty and the dealer had to order new “bushings” for the tailgate. It’s been 6 months and they haven’t gotten the parts yet… great business there. As far as I could tell, I did not notice any bushings on the tailgate since I’ve owned the truck.
What actually was the problem with mine is the main problem these tailgates have which is the tailgate will actually shift left and right on the pivot pins when the truck turns, so mine actually makes contact with the bed and that stops it up from opening. The dealer tried to blame me for wear and tear when there was missing paint on those contact points on the INSIDE of the tailgate and the bed in the same locations. You can really tell by the gapping between the bed and the tailgate usually on the right side, there will be no gap.
Anyway when I manually shift the tailgate myself back to having proper spacing it operates normally. It’s an easy fix, but don’t wait on the dealer… I’m still waiting

Ram has been torturing me in that their current (and recent) trucks are BY FAR, the best looking out there. I don’t know how anyone could possibly argue that Ford, GM, Tundra, etc are even close in the looks and style department. The grill, lights, hood, tailgate, side view, everything. They are manly gorgeous. And wheels matter too. Ram’s most basic wheels look better than every other brand’s ’premium’ model wheels. And Ram’s Limited and Long Horn package wheels look like expensive aftermarket designs. AND the 22” upgrade set is even better. Then look at the interiors of the Limited and especially the Longhorn!!! Mercedes should be jealous. I know if you are young and work your truck hard, these points are less important than toughness but even if we are in the ‘mature’ truck buyer market and are willing to pay for comfort, convenience and style, we Should be able to expect reasonable toughness and reliability from every brand. I’m wanting to replace my absolutely dependable, excellent performance 2017 Nissan Titan (which replaced my 2004 Titan- which also served me incredibly well for 13 years) with something ‘extra nice’. Hey, I’m almost 61. You’ll be here someday too. I’m tempted to play it safe and get the top spec 2024 Titan. I’m sure it’ll serve me well for a decade. But Dang, that Ram Longhorn is gorgeous in every way.

My 2019 Laramie with 140000 milles, has only had a few things go wrong. The manifold bolts, for one with the ticking noise on a cold start...and the driver's side folding mirror having trouble locking in place and over extends at times. One battery replacement almost 3 years to the day of buying the truck. There were a couple of recall repairs(tail gate). I don't even count the rock chips because 18 wheelers have cracked and chipped the windshields of all of my previous vehicles as well, so I don't know what one can do about that...I love my Rams....I owned a 2002(190,00-I had a new hardened camshaft put in it-factory design defect-pre-hemi-the Hemi option came out the next MONTH after I bought it, but it was a good truck), 2010(184,000) and 2019(140,000 miles currently)...LOL.I traded the 2010 in just because I HAD to have that 12.5 inch screen!....and the Laramie leather interior was calling my name....I'm only on my second set of Bridgestone tires-no brake jobs, had an alignment done when I got the second set of tires(minor adjustment made only) and I only use synthetic oil. The ride got better through each design change-I love my 2019 Laramie!

This second time was not under warranty so I bought aftermarket brand “TRQ” off Amazon for way cheaper than oem and had a friend mechanic put in via his own shop for cash on the side $250. This was just a few days ago, but so far it’s working fine. I’m concerned cuz the part was way cheaper than oem but since oem shit the bed twice in 70k miles I said f that I’ll gamble. I had him check the brakes also and he said about 25-30% left so we’ll wait til spring. I get about 16-17 in town and 20-21mpg hwy in Minnesota. I bought certified 100k powertrain warranty so I have 1.5yr before deciding to flip or keep long haul. Still on the fence. A lot will depend on rust. Couple very small spots of paint starting to bubble, like pencil eraser size around wheel well and above windshield on roof. I pay $30 month for unlimited washes so I wash it multiple times a week. Time will tell. I give it a 5 or 6 out of ten at this point.

TBH I haven’t noticed. I have my oil changed so frequently that I don’t check it often.

the windshield and tailgate issue are related to the body flexing on the chassis, twisting and moving around

190k mikes on a 3 year old truck is impressive.

I was shooting for 210k in 3 years, but I fell a little short. 😂

That kind of maintenance sounds about right for a vehicle with that mileage on it. Instead of replacing all those parts over a period of 10 or 15 years, you just did it in a shorter term. So it sounds like a lot more

I’m recommending a RAM to a buddy of mine for the long haul, except I’m pushing him on the pentastar 3.6. I’ve heard those will do 250k easy these days and are the more reliable choice. Thoughts?

Most people I know don't have issues with the 5.7 Hemi itself (it's a great motor with a lot of power), its everything around it.

I just hit 90k and not one issue…just one set of tires which lasted 60k and upgraded my rotors to drill and slotted…..added the RAM AIR INTAKE and a oil catch can…..as for the tail gate they hang up when you have covers on them….just push forward while lifting handle then pull towards you….

Odds are good. Oil change every now and then and you’re golden.

Love seeing these updates. Hopeful my Longhorn sees this many miles.
I have the tailgate issue, too, but a good nudge in does the trick for me.

Thanks Jordan. I’m going to try some lithium spray like some folks mentioned in the comments. Hopefully that does the trick.

Pretty much an identical truck here. Love it. Had windshield replaced by Safelite under an insurance claim. They can’t get the calibration right on the advanced safety systems. Anyone else had this issue? Assume I am heading to the dealer…
