- Open water fishing in Wisconsin in January?! I was able to get out with Robbie Jarnigo and Heidi Hanson from Todays Angler and do a float down a small river looking to catch some northern pike. When we get these midwinter warm ups in Wisconsin that are over 32 degrees, this is a great way to get out and do something a little different!

@@AnglingAnarchy Yeah, same here, although I plow snow in the winter... another bad winter. Couldn't make it to the Chicago Musky convention because of the snow... and was fighting a cold 🤧... didn't want to risk spreading it there. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to the Milwaukee show.

I said this in a comment over on the Today's Angler video for this trip but didn't get any response, so if you want to do more open water boat fishing now, this time of year, head over to Red Wing MN and the Red Wing Dam on the Mississippi River for 10+ pound walleyes. Or, move upstream to Prescott WS and fish where the Mississippi River and the St. Croix River come together. Being that it's border water your WS fishing license is valid and you won't need a MN license. The walleye are moving up river to the dams this time of year to stage for spawning.
The Lonesome Fisherman Right on! We have quite a few small to medium sized rivers in the southern part of WI that I should've been exploring and fishing when the lakes are locked up around here. I do have a few friends in northern WI and MN that head over to Red Wing, MN and hammer the walleyes.
