Been a while since I've gotten to make a First Impressions video of a new MMO. This was a lot of fun to make! Do you guys have any other MMOs I should check out? And what are your thoughts on Pax Dei so far, after watching?
I think Tightie Whities? when you die? lol Also, let me know what server you're playing when this comes out, so I can choose a different one, would hate to have a "ladder house" built on top of my plot. Looks like it could be cool to play.
From what I noticed it looks perfectly possible to block people into or out of their plot of land with walls, or ruin their experience in general. If you find a resource-rich area, you put your plot of land down, other people come in and block reaources so you have to run 10 mins back and forth for wood or minerals. Honestly looking forward to this game, just incredibly worried my experience will be ruined by other players. Would be sad to go to a forest would-be area that is fully cut down and built on for miles on end.
It's a open world sandbox survival mmo. It's going to be ruined by trolls and griefers. If even Valheim had trolls and that game is super chill, what more a survival mmo.
Easy fix...moderators online 24/7 like games did in the past. Or just code plot privilege's with exceptions. Its not hard devs just make you think that because the ones on the market are lazy af.
The moment I heard this game would be pvp, I've been a bit skeptical. They turned off pvp specifically for the playtest but they have no plans (unless that has changed since I last heard) to make pve servers. If people don't ruin the game by acting like trolls, they'll sure as hell ruin the vibe by coming up and camping new players once they reach "end game" and have nothing else to do but go on a noob killing spree. =/
If you want to get into this game, you'll need to join a clan. Clans will place plots in a block and share plots to clan. That means that anyone in the clan will be able to build on the shared turf. It will be impossible to surround. Clans are vital as the crafting system is vast and no single player will be able to level up sufficiently in all the disciplines so you'll need high level blacksmiths, armorers, fletchers, tailors, leatherworkers, cooks, jewelers etc to provide the gear you'll need to thrive. As to the forests being depleted - can't happen. Trees respawn really fast.
Very interesting, does look a bit generic at the moment but hopefully that will change when they work more on the art assets. Would have liked some fantasy races but hopefully the humans will have a variety of themes to keep things interesting, would love to play a Templar or Sorceress style character in this.
A learning curve is not a con... Edit: I figured I should say more about the video, as a fan of Nixxiom stuff. I really enjoyed the video, I am super hyped for this game.
@@ItsOctoberr It worked since day one in all of the games I mentioned. Their current state, population wise, does not imply that this mechanic ins't feasible.
Land ownership has been a huge part of Archeage since its release. Even at its peak it worked well because housing zones were predetermined, and property was part of the economy.
Love your take on the game! ❤It's really sad that you never hooked up with other players in the world and missed out on the community aspects of the game, though. Building a township, dungeon diving etc is way cooler with a good crew. 💪
Really enjoyed your first impressions! Having played Wilderness Alpha 2 and the recently wrapped up preview streamer week. I was scouring to see others take. Great mmo, great visuals. Thx for your slice of the Pax Dei experience. Your enthusiasm led to a follow. So thx!
This looks like the games Life is Feudal MMO and Wurm online, the latter which Josh Strife Hayes made a review on (that I recommend). The first died off due to low funding, and the second one died off due to being really long and any claimed land can't be changed because the game is so old. Pax Dei could be a fresh start like WoW Classic but who knows.
i dont want to say it, especially as i am a big fan of Nix. But this video feels more like a giant Add for a sponsor rather than an honest impression....
i fail to see how this is an MMO, which the definition of is vague itself, but if this is an MMO then are Rust and Minecraft MMOs? I've heard many people claim Minecraft is the "best game ever" but never have i heard it called the best MMO so i think we can solidly say that it isnt, so what makes this an MMO instead of just another survival game?
This is the type of game you gets when development teams are passionate about their work, they're making a game everyone wants to play instead of what statistically sells. This is how you get successful venture and no amount of money can buy that.
Is this game available to the public to play yet? Looks cool. Just randomly landed on your video and watched the full thing and looks like something I’m interested in.
I know the game is empty because its Alpha its not a negative comment just to answer at the autor that says Alpha game is more complete tha most AAA studio games its fucking lying@fkim8449
This reminded me of something and i could not realize what it was, until i remembered this reminds me a lot of New World in the early tests when you could build, etc, hope it turns out better.
I understand it’s an alpha but Pax Dei looks extremely generic. I would be curious to see if there is any “end game content” that makes me want to put more than a couple hours into this game. I was hoping to see the alpha give the player a reason to build a base in this world but from the looks of it this game is just a collection of random features and mechanics without any concrete theme or cohesion. I hope I am wrong but this game looks like a flop so far. There just isn’t a gameplay loop here to keep players interested for very long.
A bit worried if people can just build stuff anywhere like that, even if they limit to 1 plot by player that can't end well. I just have PTSD from the old days of Ultima Online.
Reminds me of LiF. How long till the map is a stripped mess full of half built horrible looking player shacks, stacked ladders, boxes, stripped tree's and lag from all the player crap everywhere. 🤣
This legit looks like everyother Survival Game I've seen, but without any lore or worldbuilding. The only thing different is the fact that it's bigger than other survival games. However, if no one is playing it, it's going to wind up like all dead MMOs to the point where it might as well have been lobby/server based.
Well, duh. Obviously an MMO without a playerbase is a dead MMO. But you can't really draw conclusions about the lore, or the lack of, from one alpha build. They're more than likely just testing specific features, and the alpha build does not reflect the end product. They'll likely add more content, lore, quests, dungeons and whatnot in later builds. But the alpha is barely here, and people are already speculating if this game is dead or not, lol. At least wait until they release the full game and let people try it, and we'll see how it goes after a year or two.
This video proves that Nix never played a sandbox online game in his life xD Everything in this game is pretty normal for them but yes, its cool stuff, that‘s why I think sandbox is better than theme park.
Im not convinced by these survival "MMOs" I have played stuff like scum and know of conan and valhiem having modded servers that support like 100-200 players. However never seemed engaging to me, seemed too small. No idea what new world can hold, but similar to valheim, new world seemed like it had no purpose.
I think it looks decent. The combat seems a bit boring (reminds me of skyrim, a game that I love but not for its combat system). I hope they adjust the right things and make a great game out of this promising alpha.
Pretty bare bones, not sure what this has to offer the survival community that it doesn't have already. We got Ashes of Creation, Ark 2, and Dune Awakening coming out next year. All of those games blow this one away unless there's something we aren't seeing yet.
This has real Life is Feudal vibes and I'm not sure that is a good sign. From what I heard the major issue was in being able to claim land and how it eventually blocked new people from being able to actually do anything. Also how the world became populated with completely immersion breaking structures. I hope that doesn't happen here too. An idea that just keeps repeating itself.
wow that first part reminds me of Valheim 100% the only con from what I saw is loosing everything upon death. can other players loot your body if you don't get back to claim your stuff? that would put me on high anxiety lol.
How is a learning curve a con? Sure if it's unnecessarily complicated. But any game that has any sort of depth to it will have a learning curve and any MMO worth it's salt will have that. Sure you can say that if it really wants to be good it needs to be easy to learn, hard to master. But remember this is early alpha. The game won't come out for likely years.
