5:26 As I watched this game on television back in 1984 I didn’t realize (at the time) that I saw the crossover dribble for the first time. I always gave Tim Hardaway credit for the crossover dribble when Hardaway himself said he learned it from watching The Pearl. RIP Dwayne “Pearl” Washington
Hoyas were my favorite for long time too. Michigan has always been my top team across football, basketball, baseball, hockey etc... but the Hoyas have always been 2 or 1b. The Alonzo Mourning era, mutom., Iverson, and of course this very era we are watching in this video... Reggie Williams was the man to me.
OMG The Pearl! From Seth Low projects in Brownsville to Boys and Girls High school in Brooklyn to Kings Court in Harlem to the Carrier Dome The Pearl was a God! I can't watch these anymore I get to upset, bless you Pearl R.I.P.
Metrosports also syndicated a few ACC Basketball games through the 1981-1982 season prior to Raycom/Jefferson-Pilot Teleproductions in 1983. Furthermore, Metrosports also did Notre Dame Football and Basketball as well as Football and Basketball from the Pac-10
Damn those were the days....then don't forget when Coach Thompson had his talk show on Sunday nights on Channel 5 with Bernie Smilovitz before Steve Buchantz took over as host.
As senior hoop players in Cali we ditched to watch the big east. We tried to mimic that pearl crossover, never got it. The next year my buddy was Gtown full scholarship. Crazy times, over 40yrs ago…🥹
@@lanellenglish2423 I do remember the name. I guess he was on the bench when they lost to Villanova and then transferred back to Irvine? Westchester High, did you play with Dane Suttle?
Yep, and because you kids did that (Watch Cuse on west coast) we scored Jason Hart and Stevie Thompson straight out of Ingelwood hood. They used to say on TV that we were the UNLV of the East, scoring in the 90's and sh@t. Well, until we played G'Town, lol Cuse out!🍊🏀🍊
I just found this game, mostly because I'm watching old WWF footage of Paul Orndorff vs Salvatore Bellomo, and the Big East Championship was flashing on one of the scoreboards in the background of MSG.
@@JAYSMOOTHism yup. And Reggie Lewis . Whole team went to D1 college. When I say "whole team" I'm talking the bench too🔥🔥🔥. Greatest team of all time and it's not even close
In terms of officiation, this game will go down as the WORST officiating game in all of basketball🏀history. These dumb refs couldn’t distinguish a ball-fist punch from a basketball foul. SMH
Iron Physique Refs knowing the history between these teams called it real tight which resulted an a foul fest the first half. By today’s standards both Ewing and Graham would have been ejected. But back then, fights in the big east were common and did not result in ejections. That did not change until the final four brawl between providence and Syracuse in 87. At that point the NCAA stepped in and the big east made changes.
destndj53 what were they supposed to do, pause the game and announce it. That putting Jordan on a pedestal didn’t start until the NBA after Bird and Magic were done.
Orange fans cryin' about M Graham not being ejected. Down 3 points in the Big East final, JT sat him for the rest of the game after the foul he committed. Keep cryin', but ya lost, and straight up.
Syracuse was robbed in this game. The thugs of Georgetown, lead by their head coach who stoked their anger, may have won the game, but they lost the war of public opinion.
Damn you sound ignorant SMH John Thompson stoked their anger ? Really you think John Thompson cared about public opinion? Well that so-called anger got them to three championship games in four years.

Pearl was the best. watched him in person absultely light up the Garden both in '85 and '85. A true playground legend. RIP Pearl.
He broke the guys ankles on the move but it was an in and out not really a crossover.
Good move but not a crossover
Yes sir. The Pearl
Whatever it is, John Stockton said he was the toughest.

Big East in those days were fun to watch on television down in Texas. Great teams, great players, great coaches, and best in college sport

Nothing was better than big east Monday's on ESPN in the 80s
Pearl was a Straight Up New York City All City Point Guard

He was extremely exciting u right.
Patrick Ewing get a standing ovation from the Garden crowd. Won’t be the last time.
Little did he know at the time...
He’d also get jerseys thrown at him.
The Pearl was incredible Rest in peace brother.

The Pearl was doing the Shamgod fake early 🤣🤣🔥🤣🤣

Georgetown should've won more than one national championship with Ewing and the boys
It’s because of Pearl Washington that I fell in love with the game of basketball

How did Syracuse get Pearl away from St Johns and out of NYC? If he goes to St Johns, I think they might have won it all in 85.
I think playing in the Carrier Dome and away from NYC yet not too far from home was appealing to him.
@@jdthebooster No, Coach B told Pearl the he can play his game if he comes to Syracuse.
which is the reason why I didn't go to Syracuse because I wouldn't get any playing time because Pearl was that good as the starting point guard
The referee is Dick Paparo. The linesmen are Jody Sylvester, Larry Lembo.
