Gabby's Battle: Sleeping on the Sidewalk Homeless in Miami
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 тра 2024
- In this deeply moving interview, Gabby, a homeless woman in Miami, opens up about the harsh realities of living on the streets. Gabby's story is not the typical narrative many assume about homelessness, but it reveals a truth that many overlook: homelessness can happen to anyone. Originally from Atlanta, Gabby sought a fresh start in Miami after the devastating loss of both her parents. Despite her best efforts to rebuild her life, she found herself homeless, sleeping on the sidewalk in the only place she feels safe - near the Miami Police Department.
Gabby recounts the daily struggles she endures, from avoiding the prevalent drug use around her to the constant threat of violence. As a woman, she faces unique challenges, making her choice of a well-lit and busy area crucial for her safety. Her story is a stark reminder of the vulnerability and danger that homeless individuals face, especially women.
Her journey is not just about survival but also about maintaining dignity and hope. Gabby shares how she lost her job and subsequently her home, which spiraled her into homelessness. She found temporary employment at a fast-food restaurant, where her hard work was recognized, but the pay was not enough to secure stable housing. The difficulty of finding affordable housing in Miami, despite working long hours, highlights the broader issue of the affordable housing crisis.
Gabby's story is filled with poignant moments, such as the loss of all her belongings, including her work uniform, and the kindness of her HR manager who helped her replace it. She talks about the disappointment and frustration of trying to find shelter in places like Camillus House, only to be turned away due to limited space for women. The shelter's rules and procedures, while well-intentioned, often made it impossible for her to continue working and maintain her spot.
Throughout the interview, Gabby remains incredibly resilient and hopeful. She speaks about the importance of staying in good spirits and how her faith helps her cope with the daily hardships. Her three wishes reflect her deep desire for systemic change: for shelters to have enough space for everyone, for housing programs to prioritize individuals with clean records and genuine needs, and for people to support each other rather than turn to destructive behaviors.
Gabby's story is a powerful call to action. It underscores the urgent need for affordable housing and better support systems for those experiencing homelessness. Her experience shows that homelessness can happen to anyone and emphasizes the importance of stopping to ask and listen to the stories of those we pass by every day. By sharing her journey, Gabby hopes to shed light on the struggles faced by many and inspire others to advocate for meaningful change. Watch this interview to gain a deeper understanding of the human side of homelessness and why we must act now to ensure that everyone has a safe and secure place to call home.

This woman is exactly the kind of person that should be prioritized for housing. She's clean and sober, she's employable, and the streets haven't broken her yet. They need to get her off the streets before that changes.
>They need to get her off the streets
Who they?
Surely it is clear by now that the state does not care about people who find themselves in difficult life situations.
Solving the housing crisis requires serious reforms that politicians have neither the will nor the desire to do.
Hold on she is homeless but she can afford eye lashes
@@NikitaAktavPoliticians only care about themselves. Like this diseased planet
@rasheedkesington7506 chest tattoo nice hair nails her choices brought her there independent woman i don't need a man.
I will do my best to not sound judgmental as there are thing I don’t know here- but here are my observations so far:
1) Left Atlanta with no plan & only a little money (I understand, needed a change of environ. But I’d return home if I had a place there that I could work/afford to live. Why stay where there’s nothing for u but the streets if you were never homeless before?). She could always work restaurant/ food industry here (ATL) where she’d have an opportunity for tips & affordable living (some low income aptmnts are still below $1k here). Miami is like 3x as expensive as it is here. & there is decent outreach here. I know someone who changed their life around with the help of outreach & them landing a job while homeless.
2) How did the lashes & nails get done with no income? Just curious.
3) If she is who she portrays herself to be (pretty normal, hardworking, very well-spoken, people seem to take to her at work), why can’t anyone in Miami or back in GA come get her & help her out for a few months until she’s back on her feet? (This is a tough one, but most normal working people have at least 1-2 family or friends that will help them get back on their feet from such devastation however they can). Local churches can also easily help a person like her. She didn’t make much in food services, so coworkers there would be hard-pressed; but she doesn’t know anyone at all? Cousins, aunts/uncles, etc? That’s wild. Or is it pride in not wanting to ask for help from people who know her?🤔
4) [MOST important]Spiritual observations: nose rings (bull ring especially), rosaries around risk- many will fight me on this; but these are all associated with witchcraft & Catholicism, which is often mixed with witchcraft, especially in Caribbean-dominated places (including Miami). Even the lashes can come from those same realms (not saying they’re all craft items specifically; but most women are wearing them & there’s a reason for that “trend”). Sometimes we’re doing stuff as trends or think we’re connecting with God, not realizing (due to lack of understanding of spiritual warfare & of God’s actual word), we’re often participating in things that taint our lives with ties to the enemy, opening doors to our despair. God warned us of this multiple times throughout the Bible. Be aware of your clothes, jewelry, exercises (YES, Yoga!), friend circles, movies/tv shows, music, etc. Satan’s imprint is on MOST things in this world, so it’s extremely hard to avoid him altogether. But we must do our best by understanding what/who he is & is his vs God’s, making sure we’re worshipping the REAL God of the Bible (not the many false gods He warns us not to worship), & not worshipping idols/items (mother Mary, who was a person, rosary beads & cross fixtures/items, candles & figurines, etc). We can acknowledge without worshiping or carrying these things around. Worship ONLY Him- He makes that abundantly clear in His word.
5) If the guy or someone there just helped her with a phone if possible, she could setup a Cash App & we could see if she’d take what she is gifted with & make something shake. We gotta fight until the end when we’re down bad, & keep God at the center, thanking Him for life, safety, & an opportunity to try again each day. 🙏🏽
Just my 5 cents for today. 😊Be safe & be blessed everyone❤

She won't stay homeless for long. She is so well put together.
She needs help.
Hopefully but imagine being on the street where each day you are just trying to survive. Staying safe & finding ways to get by it would be all consuming.
She will as long as she stays in Miami. It is better if she leaves.

She was dealt a bad hand by horrible roommates and nobody to help her at her lowest. It's clear she's intelligent (more so than SOME PEOPLE who can't even comprehend a simple comment 🙄).
One wrong move and you can be her. She is well spoken and intelligent and it happened to her. It can happen to anyone. She will not be homeless for long but still it is horrible.
It doesn't have to be one wrong move. It can be a random illness, job shut down etc..

She is totally selfless!!!
This poor woman! It can happen to anybody.
There is a thin line between uncertainty and certainty
She doesn't have financial resources, but she is wealthier than the wealthy. She has all the gifts that money can't buy!!! I see wealth that's beyond measure in this beautiful human being. I have worked in an industry in which I interacted with multi millionaires who were spiritually bankrupt! Although they had the financial resources; many were mentally, spiritually and emotionally poor .

Definitely. I see her spirit.
No she dont
Someone needs to give her a good job.
Problems is happen in Every country, they don't teach how to becomes rich
Why can't some wealthy person or lottery winner go there give her a basic income so she can get back to a normal life?
When he told her she has a good spirit I couldn’t help but cry, because after all she has been through and still going through, she still smiles 🙌🏽🙏🏽💕
Literally one of the songs we sing in church and actually sang it today “after allll I been through I still got joy” she is the epitome of the song 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Understatement.
If I lived thier. I would go looking for this woman.
And try to provide her with means for her to access and resources.
Very few homeless people show this depth of sincerity and pride within themselves despite her current situation.
She is so WELL SPOKEN and intelligent! 👏👏👏👏👏👏 Beautiful black sister!
Homeless people do not have to be well spoken. It’s a travesty that Americans have refused to hold the government accountable. Why on earth are we spending billions of dollars having people slaughtered everywhere but refuse to take care or just provide opportunities to poor Americans and Americans on the streets
Amen
This Woman has dignity and respect.
Imagine what this woman can do if given the chance. She understands the system and could solve problems.

Sounds like there is no affordable housing in Miami even if you work twelve hours per day. This woman impressed me. Put her in charge and the problems would be honestly addressed. Her integrity is obvious.
Average rent in Miami for a studio apartment is $1500. A one bedroom apartment is $2000. So no, Miami is not affordable unless you find a good room mate.
Cost of living is high every where it worse out here in cali the homeless rate is terrible because they asking for to much for move in ,I thank god we blessed an able to maintain this high rent In cali
Miami rent is incredibly expensive. It sky rocketed shortly after the pandemic. When my landlord sold the townhouse I was renting, I found rent had increased over 1k. Had to move to Orlando.
Here in Tampa one bedroom for $1500
Miami has no affordable housing or rent control. The governor DeSantis banned it. DeSantis also outlawed homelessness so she could get arrested which would affect her ability to get a job or apartment. DeSatan is the reason.

The lotus house doesn’t need more beds, they need to pump more money in helping people buy their own homes and stay in them! Home in place, not in shelters
Yep, I completely relate! The first time I was houseless, fresh off the greyhound I spent most the night journeying through the center of a big metro city's downtown area. The things that I witnessed and people that were hanging around was like living in a live action cartoon, I just knew I couldn't crash there and feel comfortable or safe so I got outta there.
I lucked up and found a spot just a few blocks up the street, a more quieter, laid back and secure neighborhood which is where I would camp for the next several months. I would become a bastard neighbor so to speak, always cleaning up my trash, offering a helping hand, stayed to myself, never bothered anyone and carried myself a certain way where it would earn the respect of the neighborhood residents and even the security guards. God got her, her prayers are going to be answered 🙏🏾💗
🙏🩷Amen
So true. I pray this interview open many doors for her. It's a setup by God. She's going to help hundreds of people because of her experience. You go through it at times before you get to the promise.
She's a beautiful person. I pray that God's smiles upon her and he pours his abondance over her. Amen.
Gabby has a story behind her beautiful smile.god bless her.🙏..I hope she gets help she needs❤❤
Love her … Gabby you ain’t homeless you are just having a moment! ❤
She is homeless.🤷🏾♀️
@@queentinadoire6931No she’s just houseless!!
I just wanna give her a big hug
I pray TMH gives you favor and blesses you young lady, its not easy when you lose both parents..love and blessings from UK ❤
I agree. Shabbat Shalom!
when i see videos like this i so wish i could help, but i'm soo far away, godspeed to Gabby.
This woman is just down on her luck, she's personable, she wants to work, she just wants an honest job, stable place to live, and to feel safe. She's sober has a clean record and has years of experience in the food industry, so she's employable! People like her are exactly the kind of people who need access to housing services to help her get back on her feet. I hope her situation improves and she stays safe.
I was homeless from 1984- 2012...give or take a few years
not consecutive in a apartment. I kept the faith, and it was still difficult...it was like going through the rabbit hole to find strength and I was able to become sober in 1995. My advice is to trust that the great DIVINE have a plan for your life and, ask the DIVINE to guide you while you're in the wilderness. Remember this analogy that it took 40 yrs to enter the promise land. In short learn to be even more patient! All things in divine timing! BELIEVE IT !!!
I grew up in Miami and used to work downtown. I recognized right away where she is. I hope she’s able to get off the streets soon. Seems very nice and intelligent.
Where is this? Maybe someone can send her a donation.

I could see this lady as a social worker. I hope someone helps her out of this situation quickly. ❤️
I would imagine being homeless, I would imagine being high, is a way to not have to deal with reality
And reality would be incredibly tough to deal with
God bless these people. I sure hope things get better.
That’s exactly why it’s the worst experience in the world it’s dehumanizing
I know she would succeed at one of the restaurants on South Beach..she has great energy..sending positive energy ❤
Please do a update on her she's so sweet and uplifting homeless and all.
Amazing lady
What a beautiful, intelligent young lady. ❤
She's not really "young" , probably 40-ish.
@@Davez621 40-ish is "young"......
@@psychedelichippie9759 Not in my books, 40 is middle age
Homelessness sucks. I can’t imagine. Pain is real.
Gabby is a beautiful woman in all ways, and very wise.
I hope she finds help soon. She deserves it. ❤
She is beautiful and seems so calm with her situation.
This lady will make it.
The system will not keep her down.
What A wonderful lady 🥰
She seems like a great person. I hope she makes it. She deserves to make it in life. Affordable housing, and jobs that pay enough to live on, are two of the biggest problems in this country right now.
Oh, Gabby if I had my own home I would come get you. I'm praying for you.
I know how she feels. I am a single mother who is homeless now for 6 months. In Arizona and I sleep on the streets I feel more safer than in a shelter.
SOOOOO many people say that. Shelters must be horrible.
Wow! She seems like a nice lady. She’s very articulate and could easily get a much better job.If she happens to read the comments, think about applying at a hospital, working in the kitchen since you have experience and then get into administration work for example, working as a Case Manager’s Assistant. Take some classes as you’re working in the kitchen and you’ll be good to go. Hospitals are great at advancing their employees into other positions.
that's a great idea, she has a clean record and is sober she'd be a great fit in a hospital cafeteria and I could see a hospital wanting to retain her as staff and she can advance professionally. She seems very willing to do the work to improve her situation.
Gabby didn't ask for anything specifically for herself when asked about 3 wishes. May Hod bless and reward her for that alone. Also, she lost both mom and dad. So she is basically in a world by herself, yet she is trying to hold her head. Smart, intelligent, articulate young lady. May God bless hand keep her safe always. ❤🙏🙏
She is smart and very well spoken . i hope she goes for it
and works her ass off this she is in a good job . and a safe place and a soft comfortable bed and living space ❤
Makes me feel happy that I have a home. My bed will be great tonight. Much love for this bedtime story Great spirit ❤
Why are you bragging?
My Prayers Are For All Homeless People Including Gabby You're So Fabulous In Everyway Queen Best Wishes Always❤
Hopefully, great things await this authentic and luminous soul. Her communication skills and persona are highly marketable. I believe Ms. Gabby is ideally suited to serve in a social-work capacity. She would be very personable and relatable. Such a career could help her achieve a decent living while assisting others living in similar situations. I really enjoyed this video. It serves as a reminder to withhold judging those whose stories are unknown or greatly differ from our own. Gabby, I wish you the very best in pursuing your desired endeavors.
Girl, your "FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT" is EVERYTHING! keep on keeping on, ur gonna make it...I pray that for you. God bless you!🙏
She's beautiful sista and intelligent god bless her Gabby
Blessings and comfort to you dear! Stay safe and well. 🙏🇮🇪🏴🫡🙋🙏
Shit happens to the best of us.
Please do a follow up on Gabby.
She has a great voice, and would be great in Customer Service or some field helping people.
Gabby. I really appreciate your story you're so positive you made my whole day because you're going through challenging times and you're mind set is so amazing!❤❤
Prayers to this young lady 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
She's not really "young" , probably 40-ish.
She took care of both of her parents until they died and now she is homeless. She is so articulate and, as other commenters have said, she understands the systems that are supposed to serve the homeless so she could solve problems if given a job doing so.
Gabby, you have such a beautiful spirit. You will rise up.. I love your personality & energy ❤
She is so articulate, intelligent, pretty, and friendly. Ahhh...shame on Camillus House. They have more than enough space for more than housing only 6 females. Well, I wish her well and warm regards!
How I wish to be there and talk with her, could listen to her for hours, sometimes these videos are too short! But I also wish to give a helping hand, just there are too many in need of help. Here in the Netherlands there's homelessness too but so little compared to the states, and more options for people to have a roof over their heads, food and support. For a land of "big dreams and opportunities" you should do better, America. Talking to the big shots/politicians, not the people struggling to survive.
sadly, your right 🥺
God bless this woman! Wow, so smart! Keep your head up sweet heart. Jesus loves you!! ♥️
Prayers for her that she is able to get back on her feet ❤🙏🏿
Smart women I really hope she gets help ❤
I hope this Lady receives all she needs & more asap. Her story is a reminder to my heart, Lord - I can't wait to be in position To Be A Blessing!!!
🥺❤️❤️❤️I hope she is able to find housing soon. South Florida is brutal in the summer and during the hurricane season. It is so dangerous being homeless but especially for women and children.
God bless and protect this beautiful woman.
How can i donate directly to her?
checked, no information about that. Hopefully she gets the help needed.
She does NOT belong out there. Yes, I know all the ppl in the videos don’t belong out there, but she REALLY doesn’t!
