    Tragic! I can't understand why a celebrated actress like Vivian Leigh would be allowed to die of Tuberculosis. By 1948 and 1952, two antibiotics that are still used today were being used to eradicate the disease. I'm wondering if she thought there was a stigma to being treated.
    Gone too soon.

      had a severe alcohol addiction, that probably diminished

      @@brandywineblogger1411 unfortunately the famous casting couch in Hollywood was the decent into this. She also had bipolar disorder which was truly a decent into darker places. I believe she had two miscarriages during her marriage to Lawrence Olivei within a couple of years of each other. No doubt the strict diets put on actresses of that time such as drugs etc to keep them skinny contributed to it all. She was a phenomenal actress and most definitely nobody could have played scarlet like her or the actress who played melanie whose name sadly escapes me right now it was just petfect.
      In recent years due to BLM they wanted this movie cancelled but number 1 this movie is a dipiction of history not just showing black slaves but irish slaves too ( irish slaves were brought over on the mayflower ) 2 The first Oscar to a black actress in a supporting role was won by the actress whose name I also cannot remember. Well deserved all the oscaŕs given to this movìe. If history is not taught then it will repeat itself but also thdir around 8 million people who are slaves today making ur electronics. During BLM riots they desicrated the graves of the Buffalo soldiers fighting for thè north during the civil war

    It is really sad that there are no more movies like this one and the most viewed movie in theatres is Barbie. Society is becoming more and more immature and quite superfitial.

    you have to be Southern to understand the South and it's people. you have to live the South to be Southern. and the author of the book that the movie was based on or Southern clean through and through b o r n e d and Brad Southern. and with the beautiful actors that the Doone such a perfect job as actors portraying the characters cannot and will never be matched or outdone! no wonder it was a movie of all times then and it will always be a movie of all times. a jewel for our history! and I add that there is a certain group does not like history and wants to do a way with the history of this nation. because that were portrayed as they were! which this nation today has Dishonored those that fought and died during the Civil War! our history of the America! it's a disgrace has allowed our history to be destroyed!

    How could she die of Tuberculosis when antiobiotics would have cleared it up quickly? Was she a recluse who refused treatment?

    Is it true that she had mental illness?

    • @donnatate458
      @donnatate458 Рік тому +5

      Yes, she had bipolar disorder. Unfortunately, not much was understood about that disease then. It affected both her personal and professional life. It probably caused the divorce between her and Lawrence Olivier. Very sad. Treatment today is much better.

      @@donnatate458I think one of the symptoms/effects of her mental illness was her, in effect, prostituting herself in the local red-light district - though whether any money was ever involved is another matter.
      About twenty years ago the late, brilliant Scottish film critic Alexander Walker made a radio documentary for BBC Radio Four on the subject of Vivien Leigh. In it, he recalled how he had arranged an interview with Leigh in her house in London but, on arrival, was told by Leigh's housekeeper that she had gone out and would be back soon enough. Walker waited in the sitting room and, when Leigh arrived and greeted him she turned to remove her raincoat and Walker noticed a muddy patch on the back of it (it was raining). Walker knew about Leigh's drinking, her mental health problems and the stories of her picking up men in the red-light district and realised she had just "been" with a man she'd picked up. A sad, sad recollection from Walker.
