      @@juancarlos9592 Marlene was incredible - she was SO expressive in a completely different way from Judy. More restrained, more European, but really intense. Either Judy didn't really "get her" or possibly she's a little jealous?!

      @@alexfrederick5475 What about her wasn't to "get"? Did you hear what she said? Judy was under the impression that Marlene was going to play a record of her singing. It was a record of applause. Who does that?

    • @alexfrederick5475
      @alexfrederick5475 2 роки тому +1

      @@JloveLamar I agree that particular instance was very odd behaviour, playing the record of applause. Perhaps she did that because she thought Judy didn’t respect her.
      What I was referring to was the fact that their styles were different, Judy basically said Marlene was not a singer and I think she was wrong. She didn’t understand Marlene’s talent.

    Judy never looked better (to me) than in these first two interviews. Read "Marlene Dietrich by Her Daughter" by Maria Riva. Yes, she was an egomaniac, but she was a genius at creating and maintaining her own legend. It's never just luck.

      Marlene Dietrich by Her Daughter - by Maria Riva. "My mother was a magnificent actress, and as a human being, a monster. The "diva" destroyed a lot of people's lives. She walked all over people's hearts. She destroyed Maria, but Maria triumphed. She didn't "punish" her mother, she portrayed her in every aspect. A brilliant piece of literature! Poor Judy, in 1964 she still looked good and still had her cutting wit and sharp acuity. However only 3 years later in 1967, the alcohol and pills had really taken a toll. It was around this time, maybe a year earlier, that many of her friends said the Judy had lost something. She wasn't as sharp and lost her quick wittiness. You can clearly see it in later interviews she did around that time, from 1966/67 until her death. She looked awful and slowed down intellectually. Rest in Peace Judy.

    I wonder if Miss Garland heard about Maria Callas's faux pas with Miss Dietrich (and, if so, what would she have thought of it)?
    Long-short is that for a time, Miss Dietrich became enthralled with Miss Callas-. Offstage, Miss Dietrich took great pride in skillfully cooking sumptuous meals for her family, friends and flames to impress them. To that goal, Miss Dietrich took 8 pounds of U.S. Grade A beef which she boiled and strained over and over again many times over quite a few hours to transform it into 8 OUNCES of beef bouillon which she proudly served to Miss Callas. Miss Callas sipped it then remarked 'Very good. What brand of CUBES do you use?'- Yep, that abruptly ended Miss Dietrich's interest in Miss Callas!

    🥀 She stood at only 4'11, with a Tremendous voice. Wish I could've seen Judy perform live. I was only 13 when she passed away. 😳 She was married (5) times, before she even turned 47! I'll always adore Judy Garland but I wonder what it was like to live with her. 🤔 Probably VERY stressful. She was, I suppose, the definitive "Tortured Artist."🌹(San Francisco/June 24th, 2018)

      Patrick, I saw her six nights in a row in Westbury, Long Island in 1967. I was able to get someone to let me meet her. Her performances were wonderful, and I couldn't believe how great she treated me ... at that time a I was a little 19-year-old nobody from Mississippi, and she said to me, "You're Robert, and you've come from ... oh my dear, is it Mississippi? to see me, and I think you're just MARVELOUS." She had this dressing room (suite) full of celebrities, and she let me sit on the floor beside her, and she kept asking them, "Don't you just LOVE his Southern accent?" It was the high point of my life. She was just the greatest. And the audience at Westbury just loved her. She was the greatest.

      Robert Henley 🌹 LOVE your story❗I just woke up and your's was the first thing I read. That may be the COOLEST celebrity encounter anyone's ever shared with me. Thank you. Also, my Mother's side of the family came from....you guessed it: MISSISSIPPI. You know, a True Artist like Judy Garland is often fascinated by the multitude of regional accents that she hears from people. Languages & Accents are perhaps the [1] human characteristic that intrigues me the most when I meet someone. And Judy Garland Traveled A LOT! So, I'm TOTALLY CERTAIN that she found your Southern accent: Sweet, Genuine, and quite Charming. And you were only 19 at the time⁉️😎 Oh My God. She liked you. I'll say no more.🥀

      It might have been stressful but her children think it was wonderful living with her! I've heard Liza Minelli and Lorna Luft say what good friends they've always been, thanks to their loving mum.
      So Judy Garland must have been an amazing person to have managed to stay so good-hearted in spite of the drugs that Hollywood forced her to take from an early age.

    Haha - she has this speaking voice that makes every story she tells hysterical. And well - she was right - Marlene was the biggest narcist in the business. Great, but self-obsessed completly. She loved herself above anything else. Nothing wrong with that. Most of the greatest ones are like that.
