    I feed my fish once a week with BBS and after few months of observation I noticed that their colors become more vivid and they are more active. I also think that BBS is their favorite food among the 5 fish food i feed them.

      Dude I struggled for ages with hatching brine shrimp too but you've just got to experiment and see what works for you and your water. It can be frustrating but keep at it.

    I’ve literally only been breeding fish for about 4 months but I love watching my hundreds of rainbow fry chasing the brine shrimp. I’ve tried growing the brine shrimp but they always seem to die after about a week

      Completely normal. They're a salt water organism and don't typically live long

      I have in the past built an artemia bath out of an old bath tub, add proper salt and make sure you have good aeration, feed them spirulina ( blitz the spirulina in water first before you add it to the bath) It is possible to grow them out. 🙂

    I love hatching my own BBS, I do it in an upside down milk carton (plastic) and clip it onto the inside of my aquarium for the 26-27c temperature, it’s a kind of addiction, love the whole setting up and harvesting and all the fish love it no matter the size of their mouth!! 🙂

    My Dad used to raise brine shrimp to feed the fish, he raised Angel fish, fancy guppies, did Gramlys (sp) for a little while. But I'm talking 50 years ago, I'm 63 now so a while ago, he's not around anymore. Now I'm trying to remember what salt he used and wonder where he got the brine shrimp eggs. I've been kicking around the idea of getting like a 55 gallon tank, Pet smart has a kit that is dirt cheap, can't get the wife on board though.

    I occasionally hatch BBS when I don't have small fry and all my adult fish love the stuff! Okay, the suckermouth catfish would rather eat vegetarian but the tetras and cory's love it so much! My cherryshrimp like to eat anything. They smash this and anything else I feed them.

    I hatch brine shrimp every day using two 'pop bottle' type hatcheries. I decapsulate the brine shrimp first and let them hatch for 36 hours. I have spare phyto that I add to the hatchery to give extra nutrition to the shrimp.

    What about the salt over and over with species that dont do good with salt? I realize water changes are needed but still i worry.. should I worry about that or is it ok?

    • @juliemcgugan1244
      @juliemcgugan1244 3 місяці тому

      Would depend on what specie of fish you are feeding to. I used to feed baby brine shrimp to my guppies and they did fine with the extra salt in the water. Other fish do not tolerate salt, as do most plants, so if you are raising in a planted tank or a tank with lots of floating plants, I’d be careful. Water changes more often will probably be very important, to prevent salt building up.

    What is the best food for shrimp

    • @shaunneal9981
      @shaunneal9981 6 місяців тому

      Biofilm is the best food for shrimp - that slimey stuff that grows on surfaces in the aquarium. If you are asking about baby brine shrimp then it is phytoplankton and other single celled and microscopic critters in the water.
