Cubs fan here and yeah they’re gonna buy but it’s just about how far in they’re willing to go. The last 2 years they’ve been over .500 with run differentials of a 90 win team. The fear is that they chalk it up to bad luck and run it back with minimal additions, but I trust Hoyer who is honestly an excellent GM, as the fact the cubs really only had one down year after they lost a whole core with a barren farm that is now arguably the best in ball with the Red Sox is amazing. They absolutely have to trade some of the top 100 dudes they have because they’re running out of room on the 40 man to store all of them. My best case scenario is offloading a few of the top 100 prospects we have plus Nico Hoerner for a mariners starter (Bryan woo would be ideal that dude is beyond filthy) and then signing another brewer in Willy Adames. I prefer Trev’s two for one over burnes particularly Shane Bieber who I think will be an absolute steal. Also if the Roki rumors are even a little true you absolutely have to get him he is generational. Great ep
Roki is an expensive car you can’t drive very often. Whoever signs him should see him as a luxury and not count on getting any kind of significant innings out of him.
I feel like an issue for the Cubs is that there are no obvious holes in the lineup. Most of, if not all of, our starters are "good" players, just not amazing. They earn their starting spots and earn their decent sized contracts which in turn limits the prospects the team can call up and limits the money you can spend on free agents. You almost need to build a cheaper 75 win team with obvious holes that way you have the option to call up your prospects to fill the holes, trade prospects away to fill them or spend the money you've made available on players. The Cubs have built a "good" team. But good doesn't necessarily make it to the postseason and definitely doesn't promise a World Series. The Cubs need to open up some spots and some money so we can go get, as Boog described, an "aircraft carrier" caliber player that can help push a team to the 90+ win mark. It feels like we’ve locked ourselves in mediocrity.
The Mariners' upper-minors starting pitching depth isn't fantastic at the moment. Emerson Hancock would probably slip into the No. 5 spot in the rotation if they traded one of their starters, but things get pretty thin after that. If they lose another one (or two) to an extended injury next season, which isn't out of the question and is maybe overdue given their good run of health the last couple seasons, suddenly the rotation is looking very shaky. I'd much rather they try and deal from their stable of top-100 prospects -- Harry Ford, Michael Arroyo, Cole Young, etc -- first to add an impact bat (or just spend money in free agency, but that's a foreign concept to ownership).
The Blue Jays front office is delusional if they think they’re going to legitimately compete any time soon. Pray Bo re-establishes his value and trade him. Move Vlad at the deadline if he won’t commit to resigning before it.
Cubs need an offensive POWER hitter. That’s why trading someone like Nico Hoerner makes sense. They have 8 of top 100 prospects as well. They need someone like Kyle Tucker, Vlad Jr or something. They have a ton to trade but they just don’t have enough power to win 90 games
@Mystic03335 I agree, it seems odd since last year of "full throttle" redsox going after players but it seems like they are clear players for him and this off season in general. So I wouldn't count them out for sure.
@@kickpuncher1892 I’m really leaning towards the Mets but I don’t think soto is worth 600 million that’s a little absurd. But the Mets would definitely give him that contract
I agree with Trev on the first question. Soto is only really looking at 3-5 teams, and those teams will still be spending after. Plus, I truly think Soto will sign at the Winter Meetings or earlier. Roki doesn’t impact the pitcher market at all because he isn’t paid from your free agent budget really. So if you are spending on pitchers, you should do that either way, and use it as selling point for Roki wanting to join your rotation.
To answer Trev's question about betting on yourself every year or taking a guaranteed package in a performance based job market, I'm definitely taking the three year deal. Betting on yourself year after year is crazy. None of us are that consistent not to mention the mental toll constantly fighting for your contract would take...
i was thinking this before Jake mentioned it, if the Cubs get Manaea and Burnes, they could push for 100 wins next year if all goes right, and settle for a wild card spot if things go horribly wrong still. they have such a great lineup with a great balance of defence and offence. they could go out and win a team gold glove next year and with that rotation, all they need to do is hit and they go from 90 wins to 100+

I will start calling Roki Sasaki, Rocky Sasaki! Yo' MLB, come get me! 😅 ⚾️ 🧢
Jake’s yanks are getting old comment got me. If I’m the yanks let Soto walk. Bright side he’s not going to be on the AL. OK. spend that money on Bergman. Fix the 3rd place problem. Get Joc at 1st. And get tanner Scott. And worry about the AL. ANY OTHER free agents you guys would add to this??? I was on the bring back Soto train but it’s not worth it
Yanks are old, so instead of signing the 25 year old who is the 3rd best hitter in all of baseball, sign 3 slightly above average 30+ year olds? What???
@ I thought that too! But the future would be. Volpe judge jazz dominguez wellls. With no money ??? I don’t think yanks should do it we all saw the World Series. They need way more! And time to is not on their side. Teams will continue to pitch around Soto.
925 like my area code
He better leave cause signing with Mets yea leave😅😅😅😅
This episode was a delightful mess. Lol
Is juan soto Andruw Jones type, where he cruises on his talents alone, and doesnt care to apply himself to get better. And after a few years he gets fat and out of shape and seemingly more interested in grandmas cooking?
Mariners are right there. They don’t need any FA’s. They just need their hitters to not have career bad years all in one year. Obviously they need a couple bats but keep in mind almost the entire lineup had career down years minus cal. Trade from the farm
It is becoming increasingly more difficult to down play the hitting situation in Seattle. That park has issues for batters, and the Mariners seem unwilling to more than token adjustments to make batting situations better.
Giants have lost some FA to the political situation in San Fran. Some more politically conservative players have not wanted to go SF because if the issues that city faces.
Lowkey take your shit off UA-cam if you’re going to read 15 minutes of ads every episode
you can fast forward bro
Yessir
We got a whole 4 years of the upcoming clown show... too soon Trev. LMAO!
Who will sign Roki Sasaki? C'mon you know where he's going, we all know.
San Diego has better Mexican food than Los Angeles. Less alley cat meat in their street tacos.
Oh man, you are delusional. Do you know how much "black shelfish/seafood" comes over the border and finds itself in your enchilada plates?
My parents were both border patrol agents, you know how many gutted pigs they found on ice in ppls trunks? It's not even illegal because they are only looking for the illegal seafood.
