If you look at the speed difference between 46 mph and 72 mph, and compare it to high caliber picthers ranges it's probably comparable. It's just you're starting at a lower mph, but the range of difference is the same...The batters brain still has to work the data at any range....Add movement? You're good.
My fastball has a 50mph range. 10-60mph. Velocity range means little if you can't fire it at at least 90 mph once in a while. In other words, hitters gotta know that you are not all bluff but that sometimes you do have a good hand.
This will make every pitching coach happy. Textbook pitching. It's not about throwing heat. It's picking your places and changing speeds consistently. Love it.
Well yea! How many pitchers do you know that would sacrifice being a one man show trying to get the most strike out in a row to relying on your teammates with the utmost faith to get the outs? I'm pretty sure he told his team to be ready, gave them all heads up of his plan. This video the crowd laughed when they saw the first pitch. Did the pitcher laugh? How about his team? What the crowd and the opposing team should of done right after the first pitch, was look at the entire team demeanor. If they looked "to ready" for action, and I was the batter or coming up to bat, I would of known immediately what to look for. But none of the batters or the crowd expected it. I'm impressed!

Sadly, it is one of the highlights for the Twins this year. Well, that and watching Sano swing at flies with his bat and having no more luck hitting the flies as he does the baseball. Ugh, bring on Gopher Football lol.
What would be really cool is if a pitcher could have a wide speed range on all pitches. For example, throw a 90mph fastball and then a 70 mph fastball. Or a change up in the 80s and then drop to a change up in the 50s. You'd always have the hitters guessing. I've never seen an actual pitcher really be able to do that.
exactly. i remember being a kid and being blown away w/ MLB'ers casually tossing/warming up. it looked like they barely tried but were easily throwing 75 mph.
@Kyle Magnuson all baseball players are athletes. Its takes a lot of physical strength to play 162 in 180 days. Then throwing 5+ innings, 100 pitches every 5 days for 33 starts? It aint simple. Just listen to MLB players talk about how much pitchers go through.
@Kyle Magnuson just because they can throw hard doesn't mean they can throw accurately like pitchers do. there's also the matter of throwing something other than a fastball to major leagues hitters. people like to joke about these positional players pitching 1-2-3 innings, but pitch enough innings and you'll find even the best throwers of positional players will have ERA in the 20s if not higher.
That's because you shouldn't be - they are TAUGHT to do it this way. You should always be throwing under control, unless it's a situation where you need more on it.
You’re thinking of Big Sexy, this was The Legend, if the camera doesn’t zoom in they look similar…. I think you can still see Big Sexy play, but he’s pitching on a Mexican baseball team….
And I think armchair coaches think about it to much. It doesn't mess with a batters timing any more than any other pitcher. You either have patience or you don't.
This happens more often than you’d think. A team down by a lot in the last innings will send in a position player at pitcher as to keep their real pitchers at full rest
I don’t even watch baseball really, but this dudes baseball IQ is off the charts! As a coach I can def tell you that if you do something deemed “unconventional,” it throws the opposition off so bad that they just fail cuz they can’t adjust, cuz they never see it. Literally works for any sport, just know the rules or laws of the game and you’re set! Seriously tho, 3 up 3 down and ball never left the infield in 7 pitches. That is absolutely excellent pitching and his shoulder and elbow are fully intact 😂😂 my guy is worth every penny!!
Not a Twins fan by any means, but one has to love Astudillo because he goes out and plays the game, giving his all no matter which position he is asked to play. He doesn't showboat, he doesn't trash talk, he hustles--and yet he is himself. He respects the game, and it is obvious he loves to play. He puts his unique stamp on everything he does and the fans love him. Who could ask for a better professional baseball player? A lot of the other players could learn something by following his example. Sadly, few will.

He is a catcher. He can throw way harder than that
He’s throwing it as fast as he has too to just try and get it over with can’t blame him

Clearly you don't know 2021 Luke Jackson (ATL) with also 0.00 ERA 🙄😅
He got blown up back in 2018(?) the last time he pitched tho. :(
His demeanor was hysterical. You'd think he's a journeyman minor league pitcher who's burned out and miserable about riding the bus, and then he goes and retires the side as if he knew that's exactly what he was going to do. I love it.
if only there was a tv show about this exact premise lol

Uhmmm. Forget the storyline. This dude just went 1-2-3 on 7 pitches in the MLB throwing 46 and 51 mph pitches. This is incredible!
It's really not.
Just goes to show how much steroids went into hitting a baseball ... Now without steroids these dudes can't even hit a guy throwing 46mph!.

The fact that he wasted no time winding up and just pitches is what did it for me 🤣🔥
I've never seen anything like this before or since. Incredible.
LOL that was fun. Pretty interesting range and choice of disrupting timing he had there.
Might take Johnny Cueto's job
That 72mph looked like 104mph.
If you look at the speed difference between 46 mph and 72 mph, and compare it to high caliber picthers ranges it's probably comparable. It's just you're starting at a lower mph, but the range of difference is the same...The batters brain still has to work the data at any range....Add movement? You're good.
Hes actually really good the batters Don't know what to do if I was them I would start him he's that good
Yeah: slow, slower, and calendar.
After a 7-pitch inning, he's got to come into the dugout and say, "Coach, I think my arm's got one more inning in it if you need me..."
😆
Good cuz you are gonna pitch the next 475 innings!
That one announcer is kind of making fun of the pitcher. He got three outs in the majors, that is good enough for me.
lmao
🤣 He really Has to
26+ mph range on his fastball... This man may be unhittable
My fastball has a 50mph range. 10-60mph. Velocity range means little if you can't fire it at at least 90 mph once in a while. In other words, hitters gotta know that you are not all bluff but that sometimes you do have a good hand.

@@NAScpm10 True
Lmao how ironic
I'm impressed!
i bet its harder to hit a homerun without all that speed
"Beneath The Clothes, We Find A Man, And Beneath The Man We Find His... Nucleus."

I feel like the position players don’t try and throw it hard that’s why it’s only 50 but the fact they just lob it and it’s 50 is still crazy
exactly. i remember being a kid and being blown away w/ MLB'ers casually tossing/warming up. it looked like they barely tried but were easily throwing 75 mph.
@@CT99999 i know right how their throws were on a line and it looked like they would never slow down if not for being caught
I love this guy, he's just so happy to be playing the game! Welcome to the list of my favorite players Willians!

I don’t even watch baseball really, but this dudes baseball IQ is off the charts! As a coach I can def tell you that if you do something deemed “unconventional,” it throws the opposition off so bad that they just fail cuz they can’t adjust, cuz they never see it.
