I walked by Krua Khun Puk about 5 times on my way to Det5 and honestly have to say didn't know it was another great place to go. They look so hidden when you are walking down the street you pass by them so quickly!! Great job on this vid.

Great video! Jok with chili flakes is a must for me. Seeking out the wonderful and sometimes hidden mom-and-pop shops cannot be overstated enough.
Great selection of Restaurants Chris. I visited Jai Fai on Maha Chai Road years before she became a Micheline Star place and even back then she had line ups for 40 minutes plus, so waiting for 1 hours is no biggie. I need to go visit her again now that she is a Celebrity
My wife and I love Suda. Their crab fried rice is heaven as is their Thai beef salad. Thanks for showing us a little heaven.

I LOVE this format! (maybe I've missed some?) This is absolutely perfect!
Pandan leaves, such a delicate but distinctive flavour, that just adds an extra something to dishes, like many ingredients. In Thai cooking though, their expertise in combining these flavour notes together, is what makes it really stand out.

OMG, I have my boring dinner in US while watching you having my favorite Thai food in Thailand. Jok is a dish that Thais like to eat as breakfast because it is very hot when it's served. No wonder you both were sweating 😅. That's Pad see ew is really caught my eyes. Although I am Thai, I have never seen Pad see ew looking that good. I am sure it tastes very good too!

Absolutely another great video Chris. We're back in Thailand for the winter currently up north in Chiang Rai province at my Wife's home. At some point I'm hoping to get to spend sometime in Bangkok. It would be cool to run into your guys just for a high five from one of my favorite content creators on UA-cam.
I've been a customer of Suda's since the early 1990's. It's always a great relaxed place and the food is great!

But way too expensive for what you get!! You can get the same standard for 80bht. She charges 2000bht for food. But she wears funny goggles so that is okay 😂

Been going to Suda for years. I think they do many dishes very well. I also recommend the place for people first time in Thailand if they stay in Sukhumvit area. Its less intimidating than streetfood, priced fair, english menu....Its a good spot.

Jok was originally what farmers would eat around Asia, Farmers in Rice Growing regions in India eat similar Rice Porridge with condiments as accompaniments to enhance the bland flavors. In Thailand its become a gourmet dish, impressive.

That dish wasn't chives. But it's the blossom of an onion. There are a lot of them in my garden and we sell them. I prefer stir-fried scallion flowers with chicken liver.

You might have missed it, but they were “hosted”. Chris didn’t have a bill.
You can easily do a 2023 menu search for her restaurant to see the most current menu prices.
1,300 THB for the omelette. 2,000 THB for the crab curry. It’s the most expensive “street food” in all of Thailand.

However, I must confess that what I often prefer are the authentic street-side eateries on the sidewalks of Bangkok, with their rickety chairs and tables, where you sometimes discover something miraculously delicious!

Solid little video Chris. I've been intrigued to visit Jay Fai. But, I heard she basically charges fine dining prices for basically a hole in the wall street food place. I know the ingredients she uses are expensive. And as your video shows the wait times are long and I heard you need to make reservations. Honestly I'd rather just eat at Terminal 21 or MBK Center and get more value for my money.
Been once before. Only went to see the lady with the goggles. She wasn’t there the time I went, but still got charged the same high prices 😂 It was nice though!

Sadly, Jay Fai has morphed into a tourist trap joke! Not worth the hype in 2023. Twenty years ago, it was a much different story.

@@Visor8888 When we first started traveling to Thailand decades ago, we were young, budget-conscious travelers and JF and Suda were a good fit.
That is no longer the case.
No idea what thoughts enter the minds of young travelers these days, but JF might well be their answer.
Suda is still great for an ice cold beer outside.
Hemingway’s is long gone, though that is what put Suda on the map.
And they are very rude to you.

Went this year. It was a really long wait (2.5 hours) to get overpriced, overhyped food. The staff was stressed because the people waiting were stressed. I have had a better crab omelette in Bangkok for less than a quarter of the price at Jay Fai. However, the pad see ew and tom yum were quite tasty.

She cooks the food herself ...so even after finally getting a seat which is about 2hrs its still another 1hour wait for the food... and the price is relatively expensive....definitely 5star if u can skip the queue
