Oni are the most famous representatives among the many Japanese demons. They also commonly refer to evil spirits or fierce ogres that have sharp teeth and claws and are armed with iron clubs.
Oni are considered the enemy of humans, driving them mad or - worse - eat them.

Anyone here play Nioh 2 and Ghost of Tsushima? I have this little plot bunny in my head where Jin hears rumors of a woman with silvery hair that slaughters Mongols with the help of demons. He follows the rumors and finds a patch of land stained black with blood. He follows the trail into the nearby forest, Mongol bodies becoming more frequent the deeper he goes and a fog settles. At the end of the trail, he reaches a forest clearing and sees the silhouette of a woman that turns to look in his direction and through the mist, he sees a pair eyes glowing a ghostly blue. Something about her feels unnatural to Jin, and he reaches for his sword on instinct. Near the woman, a Mongol whimpers in fear.
