HOW TO LOWER BALL FLIGHT // Increasing iron distance with better technique

  • As a follow up to his 2022 iron fitting, Ian helps Ryan work on improving his swing dynamics to better control the height of his ball flight.
    By using a series of simple drills Ian helps Ryan gain control of his dynamic loft to add more ball speed, create lower spin and help him control trajectory with his irons.

    This exact drill is what I have been working on lately. It has helped my ball striking tremendously. I have even begun to control draw and fade more actively with the flight as well.
    Maybe, after a few more range sessions, I'll feel confident enough to setup those low draws or low fade shots around obstacles.

    This is exactly what I am fighting at the minute, lovely when it works but prone to hitting it fat which when the course is as wet as it is in the UK at the minute. The big problem is off a mat you have a safety blanket.

    Ian, you are a god send! I've been hitting balloons for years without knowing why I produce too much dynamic loft! Finally I can match my driver bombs with some really solid mid irons and get scoring on the par 5s! Two thumbs up

    Thank you! My swing speed numbers and ball speed/carry numbers have never matched up due to excessive height. It's so good to see and hear a solution that isn't all about moving the ball back in the stance.

    Great to have our Canadian friends joining us for the Florida swing! Even better to see how to go from the fitting to the course and see the reality of the work it takes to get the swing right after getting the sticks properly set up.

    Great, great timing with this video. I just went to my first TXG fitting with Dean and I had this same problem -- too much loft at impact causing too much height and not enough ball speed (I also added a good, consistent straight pull:)). I've always had an issue with trying to get forward shaft lean at impact and getting to my lead side, and I think this is a great video for that drill. Cheers guys.

    This swing is so me same numbers too. I've been working on turning more central then start the down swing with a little knee pump,it's moved my low point much more forward and I've now gone from 150 with my 7iron to 165. Great video so many people could learn from this.

    Great job RB! See man like I said just a couple of tidbits really does make a drastic change. Even though it feels awkward at first after a couple weeks of annoying the shit out of your wife with practicing your new positions in grocery stores and around the house, you can start to ramp up to your normal 90 to 92 club head and you’ll really start to see your irons stretch their legs.

    100 percent what I’m working on. Lowering dynamic loft. Great video and definitely helpful info. So is RB getting the T100S irons or was that purely just to show the difference from a fitting point of view. Because I’m contemplating doing a bit of x y and z. Improving technique to lower loft, potentially getting irons and shaft similar to the t100s that will naturally launch lower. Loving the content guys.

    funny what i bit of forward shaft lean does, usually my 8 iron is 145 metres on the button.

  • @donjonnio403

    Really can relate to RB's ball flight. My question is that the swing changes seem to be getting the handle a little more forward and closing the face which results in better ball speed and a lower flight. Why not just strengthen the lofts which would achieve the same face angle? For me its easier to change equipment than an ingrained swing or does the increased ball compression of the swing change play a significant role in speed/spin?

  • @niklaskraft
    @niklaskraft Рік тому

    A question, but first. Thank you so much! I was in the exact same spot. I knew I needed to lower the ball flight, but some days it went went right ( lagging my writs but not turning?) or hooking ( turning but not lagging?). This video helped me realize that.
    So the question. When i now compress the ball and have a more piercing ball flight. Should I choose a ball that promotes a higher ball flight or just normal or one that goes low? And why if any one specific?

  • @jim60631
    @jim60631 2 роки тому +2

    His stance width is too wide with the 7 iron, that is also contributing to higher dynamic loft. Everything Ian is having RB do i agree with but it would be much easier to achieve with a stance width where the feet are more under the hips reducing the amount he has to move the pressure left. Just a thought.

    Excellent video, really really enjoy seeing Ian give golf lessons. I love new toys, but investment in good fundamental swing lessons trump golf fittings 100% of the time. This is a typical issue with most amateur golfers not able to shift enough weight to delofts club at impact and scoop the golf balls as a result. Good luck, with this swing fix, you will enjoy golf even more and get 1000% better result with MP20 MMCs.

    I’ve been skying my irons but I don’t think it’s me. I compress the ball well and I started using low spin balls but I still hit them a mile high ! I carry my 7 170 but hit it as high as my 8 and maybe even my 9😂. Probably not as high but I am using elevate 115 stiff shafts and I think I need something like a DG 120 or a lower launch and spinning shaft

    I guarantee if you strengthened RB's grip and made him take it away real shut and bow his wrist he'd make his natural motion about 3 times and hook it out of the world then actually lower his ball flight and figure out how to retain some shaft lean.. it's nearly impossible to lower someone like his trajectory with the club face so open...

    Higher driver lofts have been a scam for over ten years now. Two things in fact. Why do long drive competitors use lower loft heads? Less drag the lower it stays = further distance. Also why do they use longer shafts? = more speed

    • @ianporzondek4414
      @ianporzondek4414 2 роки тому

      Long drive guys use lower lofts because they swing 150 mph. Slower swing speeds need loft or the ball won't be in the air very long.
