To me, once you stop just being interested in listening to the music (which you can hear on just about anything) to wanting to listen to the recording, thats where the tables turn.
I went to a therapist to try and get over being an audiophile, they said the only cure was to wear beats for a month then I would never want to see another pair of headphones
I just care about the quality of sound reproduction - These days I don’t listen to music every day but whenever I listen I just want to sound good. Same with movies. You are spot on about you have to be inquisitive and care about sound quality. I started with improving my Walkman headphones with porta pros in the 80s- I would say magazines was a big part in learning about audio.
The thing for beginners (limited budget beginners) is that tweaking is never a rational choice. Since there is so much to upgrade. For someone having a 150 dollar amp and 150 dollar headphones, Instead of buying a power supply, dac and cables for around 5 - 600 dollars, selling old headphone and buying a 700 dollar headphone to play with the cheap will always be a better idea. 😂 One has to have spend a lot and must be willing to have multiple sets if audio gear before tweaking anything except amp, dac and headphones. Great video as always! ❤️
Being an audiophile mean you will have the ability of maximize your favourite music to their highest potential (well, according to your budget ofc). One day, I fell asleep on the sofa. Suddenly I feel like I'm in a cafe with live acoustic music. Turns out it was just Billie Eilish's "Your Power'' from my Chi-Fi speaker. The feeling is very real. Sadly there's always a tendency for an audiophile (me included) to becoming more interested in gear than music.
I’m apparently here because you guys had a look at the AirPods Max I’m currently interested :D. But this question whos an audiophile is really interesting. For me a Audiophile is someone who regularly sits down at home at his rig and plays high fidelity music (not just high quality Spotify like peasants like me). But literally don’t know anyone who does this.
All this talk and not one word mentioned about the red Diana's on the table lol. This videos just confirms that I spend way too much time in this hobby. Let's see if I add it up how many years and how much $$$. Better not to think about that! All in fun! Thanks for mentioning herb and your start as a company building cables. I think you need another video going into more depth regarding the start of jps labs and abyss. Thanks!
I've discover music and staging with imaging after I bought first pair of open backs, than I went crazy about planars and amps. Crystal clear music, control of the bass line, instruments playing around my head just touched my feelings so much that I couldnt resist to try better gear. Sometimes music is so strong and beautiful that move me to tears 😅
I became an “audiophile” in my preteen years when my family would have parties/celebrations and blast the music. Then I would hear the bass distort and it irritated me. And then the speakers themselves would get fatigued and distort the midrange at easy listening levels. Then when I started playing video games, I would use cables/adapters to connect my Super Nintendo to the cheap home stereo so I can enjoy the slam of punches in Street Fighter 2. At 16 I invested in a CD player so i can enjoy my favorite songs on CD instead of FM radio. As a young adult, I couldn’t afford high end stuff but a CD player and Bose bookshelf speakers did sound better than most consumer speakers. But Bose while sounding better than your average consumer grade stuff, I still wasn’t satisfied with its sound because it would distort on some tracks, and some of the consumer Sony stuff actually sounded better. For a while i relied on Logitech 5.1 computer speakers as my sound system. It wasn’t too bad really for casual listening and gaming, but I learned that I can use thicker gauge cable and a SPL meter to balance my surround sound and that made a big appreciable difference. Also with iPhone and IEMs it made listening to music more fun despite the weak bass. Today I have invested in headphones, a DAC, a headphone DAC, and balanced cables and now can get an idea how on music is suppose to sound like. Also the HomePod and Sonos are not too bad for consumer gear, they have very little distortion when played loud. But they’re not resolving speakers like my current headphone set up. So who is an audiophile? Anyone who thinks that there music should sound better.
Absolutely yes Most people haven't even got to 10% of the potential of _what music can be_ Don't take that as a personal offense or an insult, in fact, we're the ones who spend the kilobucks in this madness of hobby But... When you understand you can turn music to _a place_ or a direct concert/production recording/mixing studio That's when we welcome you to the rabbit hole. You don't have to spend hundreds of dollars for good sound Check out the blon bl-03 or bl-01 See if something changes if you listen back and forth between a phone's included earbuds and these
Audiophiles care more about the equipment. I know that sounds bad, but I'm one of them. I often listen to 1/2 a song, swap my headphones and maybe finish, or swap out cables part way though an album. I respect the engineering and art of making high end gear. Art and science melded together. Of course I still love music, being a little facetious.
Try to stick to a setup for a couple of days. Your brain will get used to the sound signature of the current setup and you'll be okay with it. When you constantly changing equipment your brain can't get used to what it is perceiving and in the end, you are not comfortable enough with any of your pieces enough.
Una pregunta bastante e intesante, realmente yo pienso que en el mundo de la audiodilia definitivamente hay un rasgó distintivo de los audiofilos y en éste video tocan puntos bastante interesantes, muchas gracias por compartir y saludos.
I can hear the humming of your ac/heating on my Sony xm4s. Honestly, I just got into over ears this year and the battlegrounds are heated lol. Whyyy? Does this happen? I was scared of the eq app when I first was introduced to it. Now I feel I found how I like my music to sound. The ANC for me just to have true quiet. I fall asleep because of how quiet that is.

If your audio gear costs more than your car... You might be an Audiophile.

When you no longer refer to headphones, amps dacs as them but the type and numbers, so can out do each other by how much more they spent 😂
