Historically, it was the Spaniards who forbade the use of knives by Filipinos. Pre-colonial times, the Filipinos use their hands when eating food. When the Spanish colonizers introduced the use of utensils, they specifically forbade the use of knives. They feared Filipinos holding knives. The Spaniards feared getting butchered for the hardships they gave the Filipinos. So, it came to pass that knives did not become a usual part of our culinary utensils.

Most you said is true but the thing of forbiddeng us for using knife is due to our martial arts the kali .. because in that time pretty much allmost all of our ancestors has knowledge to it and enough to use in the combat that was the art lapu lapu use to defend mactan at that time pretty sure that was it as i remember just correct me if I'm wrong 😁😁

Yes, the Indonesian nickname for (southern) Filipinos was “the people with big knives”.

Pues el Presidente Aguinaldo, el primer presidente, se Arrepintió de haberse independizado de España. Y los estadounidenses mataron a un millón de filipinos cuando ocuparon las islas.😢

Spoon and fork are used because of rice and most of the dishes are soup or with sauce. Most of the people are working outside has no time to was their hands. That why they use spoon and fork...Spoon is used more like a spade to pick up the rice and the fork is used to make sure the food won't fall from the spoon.

Rice is the staple food in the PH, a spoon is more convenient to with rice compered to using fork. Also most of our meat dishes are cooked until it is tender enough to be shredded with a spoon.

There's a version of balut called penoy in which the duck embryo is not yet a recognizable fingertip size. The taste is like a soft boiled egg.
Slicing food with the edge of the spoon is the most convenient Filipino culinary skill.

We have knives but we rarely use them. 😂 we usually use spoon and fork because we eat everything with rice. So on the spoon is rice and a small piece of the viand you are eating 😁

We use spoon because we eat rice a lot and using spoon will be lot efficient than using fork.

it's disgusting to look at when you taste it, it's delicious and clean compared to street food in India. I tried it. It's good for the body.

You have clean hands? No problem. Eat with them!😅
    Courtesy is foremost than silverwares.
Eating Pinoy foods: East, West, North, South,...Sorry pharmaciuticals😅. . . no need for synthetic vitamins & minerals. Natural spring waters and the vast variety if greens, fruits, sea foods, freash water food, provide nutrients balance for human body's metabolism.😊
Balut? Seven of those please and a bottle if Red Horse.😂 -use to, twenty years ago.😊
My favorite meat is carabao meat, not red as beef, but dark brown tough meat. Eating it would be one muscle strand at a time. Half done from the grill.😋🤤 Where's the brown rice.😂 . . .and red hot chilly peppers.

It looks disgusting for westiners, but just the thought of it, makes you throw up. Once you taste it, not really bad. It's just eating a regular egg. Thanks for sharing your comments and reactions about our culture. Great job you guys once again, God bless

I'm pretty sure a lot of Filipinos eat balut. That's pretty much why there's a lot of balut vendors everywhere
