You guys should really try the canned tuna mixed with crushed crackers as "Pulutan". If you can get your hands on the Filipino "Century Tuna Flakes and Oil" Dude, it could change your "Pulutan" game.
there's no need to name a certain food or on-the-go snacks .. as long as the food tolerates you while you're drinking but pulutan or pick up snacks could be: SALTY OR mixed SALTY SWEET OR SWEET & SOUR accompanied usually by MILD OR INTENSE SPICY FEELS just to get the cravings you wanted on a smooth and long talks and booze. FYI THEY FORGOT TO MENTION THE DRAMA KING/QUEEN once the individual is consumed by the alcohol he/she gets emotional or sometimes hysterical loud cries of something or someone he/she remembers or perhaps a totalled heartbreak from his/her ex. And also the one we call THE NARRATOR.. he/she the one's to convey or express stories he/she experience or not at all (just a story he/she heard from another) he/she talks and talks about all things from love life to solar system and heavenly bodies and so on.
He forgot to mention the regurgitator/cheater is usually the precursor of the invisible man/disappearing act. The reason the tanggero inspects the glasses after a person drinks is to make sure he drank all of it. He also makes sure the guy did not regurgitate it into the chaser glass by looking for tell tales like bits of food regurgitated with the alcohol into the chaser glass. He also memorizes the level of consumption of the chaser glass before passing it. With or without tell tales if the level of liquid is higher than when it was drank from usually gets the cheater caught. The penalty is usually a fresh measure of alcohol with no throat soothing chaser drink. Still collecting Filipino food recipes? Here's one tasty food. We call it Pares. He’s playing a role, kinda like Steve Irwin. He’s an explorer, but instead of talking about exotic animals, he talks about Filipinos. When he speaks Filipino languages, he has no Aussie or any foreign accent. It’s just for laughs. 😂
• The chicken oil in the packet is from a famous fast food here in the Philippines, meant to be mixed in with your plate of grilled chicken (inasal) and rice. • You’re right, guys about Bogart being an Aussie character. He does it hilariously and well. 😄 • What wasn’t mentioned here, although shown, during ‘tagay’ is the chaser or the second glass. Typically, it’s a concocted flavored drink, soda or powdered juice.
Yes, this is true but you know, the Philippines has so many islands and regions so drinking with friends and relatives may vary in different places; using common "glass" is very common in the provinces , as they say, to promote camaraderie and friendships but in the cities it's different, you have to use your own "glass" as you guy said 👍💕 MABUHAY!
We put the chicken oil on rice and drizzle it with rock salt. Best with the chicken barbeque. What you saw is from Mang Inasal, a popular fastfood in the Philippines.
But on times of COVID, Drinkers has it's own glass each, until now, each has its own glass for the wine. and for the pulutan, has each own spoon and plate, Thanks for the reaction, God bless
the chicken oil is the rendered chicken fat which is used to enhance the flavor of the bar chow (pulutan in tagalog) which are usually savory food taken with liquor. most famous pair of the chicken oil is the chicken inasal (barbecued chicken, famous in the visayas region of the philippines). the "pulutan" shown is grilled pork belly, and the one beside it is "sisig" which is sizzling mix of pig face, ears and snout.
there's a reason why many people try to sneak in rice for the pulutan because most of the time, if not all of the time, it's REALLLYYY good food like sisig, pork belly, chicharon, liempo, and all the other greasy meat stuff. it's hard not to bust out the rice from the rice cooker with those food on the table while you're drinking lol.
Chicken oil is literally the chicken grease/drippings from when you cook them. Its a staple condiment from a uniquely Filipino fast food chain called "mang inasal", that is much like your mcdonalds, or ihop. It is essentially concentrated flavoring that is often put on rice like how you put syrup onto pancakes
Hi Mike & Jess, I discovered your channel when I went down the Iam Tongi “rabbit hole” during AI. I also noticed the diversity of music artists you’ve reacted to. I’ve particularly noticed your love for my people, Filipinos! It’s part of our culture to be generous, loving, welcoming of everyone, and TALENTED. I’d like to present a darling of the Philippines you should react to: Lea Salonga! She started in Broadway and was the singing voice of two Disney Princesses: Jasmine and Mulan. I recommend starting with her audition for Miss Saigon at 18 y/o. Then follow that up with her rendition of “On My Own” when she was in Les Miserables! She will be your new “rabbit hole”. ❤️🙌
Thanks guys for loving us Filipino. If you have any plans to visit the Philippines, 12 best places to visit in the Philippines - Philippines travel guide (Travel 2 where)
Yes, he's playing a character w/c they named Bogart the Explorer. PaperbugTV does a lot of comedy skits but a lot of them are informative as well. Oh, and also eating anything with rice in the Philippines is considered as a full meal. Like for example, many filipinos (especially the older generation) would consider eating burgers and fries as eating snacks; they'd only consider a meal a full one if it has rice w/ it 😅
Thats right. Any food without rice is just a snack. That is why skipping meals is very normal for filipinos coz they eat a lot as snacks 😂😂😂😂 especially when you are at birthday party where you eat a lot but not with rice and still consider as snack😂😂😂😂
he is very famous in the Philippines. He is from the province called Davao, south of the Philippines, and he can switch to different accents the most usual (go-to) that he does is the Australian accent. That's just his character portrayal, a mix of Dora the Explorer (as he once had a show called Bogart the Explorer, a travel, adventure and lifestyle show) AND him looking like that Australian outback adventurer Crocodile Dundee/ Steve Irwin (+) I hope you will also watch a youtube video of him with the Cake Boss himself Buddy Valastro (also produced by PaperBug TV) during the Discovery TLC (Travel and Living Channel) Philippine fan meet & greet.
The last line he sings is: "' Don't make our drunk food-- rice." which means don't eat the drinking food too much as it does not leave the rest for everyone else.
In our group we have this additional character The Philosopher - the one who likes to engage in deep discussions while drunk and usually talking in english Johnny Sins - the sex seeker in the group. always flirts with anyone he likes The Scavenger - brings home all the left overs and claims is for his dogs (no they're not) The Jester - the life of the party. the one that makes everybody laugh and the worst enemy of the Concert King/Queen The Call Center -always on the phone talking to his girlfriend , usually the Escape Artist's Back ride home
Fun fact: Tagay is done to make sure that people trust each other during the session, and it was also done to make sure that the drink is not poisoned, thus the trust part.
5:43 chicken oil is the oil extracted from the chicken. Still like a cooking oil but but smells like chicken and the color is like a used oil. Kinda black-ish
Funny but very accurate. The elbowed crackers and canned tuna thing I also did back in college. By the way Bogart is 100% Filipino with a take Aussie accent.
Mike and Jess I really injoy your reaction about this one so you can see how we get together every weekend, can you try to Limuel Lanes and his friends singing THATs WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR during during dinner and drinking session you love it. ❤🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 🙏
FYI everything in that video is TRUE and on point LOL there is a science in drinking sessions for Filipinos and also the idea of drinking or consuming alcohol before singing videoke is also true, for some odd/magical/supernatural reason 😅😅😂😂 some of us Filipinos sing well when a bit drunk and only in the Philippines folks 😎😎👊👊 and mind you! it is not an out of tune kind of singing hehehe
It's so funny cause what he sang In the last part of the video would be something that a group would sing if they notice one member just diving in and almost consuming all that 'pulutan'. It translates to "Don't make a meal of our pulutan". hahahaha..
Before the session begin did you guys see what the tangero or gunner did? he pour a small amount of alcohol into the cap and we throw it into the ground... we do that every time before the session begin or a new bottle is open, it's for a family or friends that are no longer with us to remember them by...
9:49 that one is pork. most likely fried or grilled. the other one is sisig. its also pork but chopped in small pieces mixed with mayo and other seasoning. its incredibly delicious
9:44 that bits of meat are grilled pork and on that paper plate is a filipino pork sisig and they managed to put some cornick the filipino deep fried puffed corn snack on the top to enhance the flavor of the cornick... on the other hand the thing that he elbow crushed those salty crackers he just mixed it with a canned tuna to make the crackers mixed with tuna oil and meat
Another Drinking Ethiquite is even before pandemic, is DO NOT LEAVE you glass in the drinking table during a drinking session as it will get REFILLED. That happened to me. I had to spilt it into 2 and add a chaser (that time was soda) to mellow it down. Also there are instances in a community where there are small drinking sessions scattered and one of the person knows you, you will be "asked" to "Take a shot for the road."
Filipinos are usually used to drinking at home or around the neighborhood because there are not a lot of bars or pubs even in the cities, and usually those establishments are fancy or expensive for most Filipinos. So most of the drinking sessions 1glass/cup being rotated among drinkers has been the practice and Filipinos generally dont mind
No way! I'm a Filipino but I always have my own wine glass for my drinks. But yes that is true this kind of etiquette before the pandemic came. But lately as my observation even my closest friends they are aware to use their own shot glass😂😂😂 however some folks like from the provinces they would like to shared their shot glass lol.!
The food serve in the video are grilled pork, sisig (sizzling pork, onions, garlic, chili, egg, mayo lemon). Canned tuna and flakes is a good combination you should try it too
When I was in college, when some fraternity brothers come to have a drink at home, we drink a local brand of liquor and have a cheap canned squid or sardines as pulutan ... this is how we drink when we are broke or have little money to spend. This happens only at a time when our monthly allowance has been stretched thin, usually a few days before the end of the month.
You guys are awesome to watch it’s so much fun to see foreigners react to stubborn filipino alcoholics. Anyway I just wanted to add during my days when I used to work in the hospitality business there’s a lot of programs bartenders need to learn and know. Or perhaps only in California hhhmmm cheers 🍻
chicken oil it came from the skin of a chicken 😂😂😂 in the philippine start using mostly in the food called INASAL OR MANG INASAL a grilled chicken and marinated it
🤣I'm d escape artist. I'm just not very good at saying no or pass so off I go😂 Btw he forgot about the "washing". After drinking hard liquor the 'remaining' participants (strongest of them all) has to consume beer which may vary from 3% alcohol to 6% alcohol depending on how hard the former drink was. This was hilarious and very accurate.
2:20 he’s Filipino (Bisaya in particular) but a comedian. And also a government official. Yes, his accent is just an act. Not his actual accent in formal setting
You can politely ask for a separate glass. The practice of using one glass originated in a mountainous area where even water is not readily available. And people thought that the alcohol in "gin" kills bacteria.
the intro is actually a parody of old cultural training i.e. working abroad. often an English (England) native speaker. this tradition was rooted in Mindanao with the warriors. It's also a rite of passage to be invited to your dad's and uncles drinking table and offered that glass lol. but one thing is that it should be done outside on a makeshift table. side note: the chicken oil is from the instant noodles (canton noodles often have soy, chicken oil, and powdered seasoning in those packs). French restaurant recipe is tuna canape (tuna on crackers) or pasta puttanesca (hoe pasta). sounds like me when drunk cooking, swearing at food, and comparing it to another's mother which makes me think he tried to make puttanesca.
the common glass is also a way to make sure that everyone takes turns with the same amount of alcohol. And the gunner or "tanggero" is responsible for checking if every member had their drink already.😂😂
RegenerationNationTV, please request to make a video of "Americans React to Philippines 101: Melai shares her recent medical condition | Magandang Buhay" 🇺🇸🇵🇭🎓
The last sentence (through singing) the guy said don't eat the appetizers (pulutan) as a meal. There are occasions which sometimes the drinkers eat a lot of food (pulutan) and drink little amount of alcoholic drinks.
Here's a recipe in my hometown they call it Bagis first buy a Ground Beef,Mama sita's sinigang sa sampalok mix hot, fresh garlic,Onion and fresh chili called labuyo or jalapeno will do i almost forgot oil or coconut oil healthier than vegie oil then first diced garlic then onion the onion does'nt to be diced if you want chop chili's then put oil on wok when it's hot put garlic when it;s golden brown put onion smashed ground beef then the mix half of it then the chili's when almost cooked put the rest of the mix then eat with white rice
The “pulutan” shown are the most common pulutan.. the first one is Liempo or grilled pork belly and the other one with sliced chili’s is called sisig or minced pork (face, belly, ears, or any fatty part of pork).
I think they missed a very critical aspect of a drinking session in the Philippines. And that is the presence of a karaoake machine in ALL and I mean ALL of drinking sessions.
Most common Pulutan is Sisig or Lechon kawali. Can be Crispy pata or bbq Chicken intestines. Depends with the participants budget or of the celebrant if there's a special occasion.
the greasy pulutans that you're seeing are pork meats, the one on the left side is called "sisig" and the other one on the right is called "liempo" or grilled pork.
Chicken oil are the oil drippings of chicken barbeque cooked “inasal-style”. You pour it over your barbeque chicken and your rice to make them really tasty.
The part about "avoiding being violated by a piece of metal" is a throwback to the times when local thugs would drink on the streets. If you pass by them, they'll almost always offer you a shot, and refusing the drink will almost always lead to trouble. So you just take it and move on
That's not chicken oil, its called "chaser" a soda, juice or water. Usually when you drink hard liquor you must have chaser to eliminate the bitterness
His just a regular filipino, a bisaya came from davao city... A south-eastern part of the philippines... If you to experience something like this, try to have some filipino friends specifically those who are born and raised in the Philippines. 😅😅😅😅😅
"Tanggero" is like the "liquor dealer" much like in poker where you have a "card dealer". the "Tanggero" deals (pass the glass with the drink) around the people participating in the drinking session. He makes sure everyone have an equal share of the liquor being served (because in the Philippines, everyone chips-in to buying the drink to be taken the night of the drinking sessions.
the (plain) biscuit cracker (broken) mixed with canned tuna (flakes & oil) is true, some will even squeeze some lemonsito (local small citrus fruit) to add that refreshing taste. not only readily available anywhere but relatively cheap
These are the most common stereotypes in a drinking session here. There's also the Ambassador/disciple, people who speak in tongues or becomes multilingual. The drama artist that cries and talks about their exes when inebriated The comic artist/clown that leads the crowd and makes everyone laugh with their pranks. Can turn into the pest that jumps on another table and can get you in trouble There are others, but these come from the top of my head.

Those pulutan were grilled pork belly (inihaw na liempo) and sisig (chopped pig face).
2:20 he’s Filipino (Bisaya in particular) but a comedian. And also a government official. Yes, his accent is just an act. Not his actual accent in formal setting
He missed the one and only menace in the drinking 101 guide. THE PULUTAN DEVOURER this one consumes a shit ton of food than alcohol.
You can politely ask for a separate glass.
The practice of using one glass originated in a mountainous area where even water is not readily available. And people thought that the alcohol in "gin" kills bacteria.
the reason why he has a Australian accent is because hes from Down Under, Down under the Philippines hes from the south Philippines,
That was "sisig" at 9:52 that you guys were wondering about, and it's the pork kind, made from spiced, deep-fried fat and cartilage bits. Yum.
the intro is actually a parody of old cultural training i.e. working abroad. often an English (England) native speaker. this tradition was rooted in Mindanao with the warriors.
French restaurant recipe is tuna canape (tuna on crackers) or pasta puttanesca (hoe pasta). sounds like me when drunk cooking, swearing at food, and comparing it to another's mother which makes me think he tried to make puttanesca.
he forgot the broken hearted, when drunk they cried alot and we drinking tropa pats the back of the crying friend with few advices.
Fact : Bogart The Explorer or Marco Ho in real life is also a professional drummer and founding member for the happy metal band Giniling Festival.
Pero sa iba may bowl lng na may tubig, para pagtapos uminom ng alak sa baso hugasan nlng dun ganurn...
hahahaha. oh my God that was funny. thanks for your awesome reaction.
the common glass is also a way to make sure that everyone takes turns with the same amount of alcohol.
Yes sir , madam .. if you enjoy that video? Pls react to another video - Lemuel Llanes & friends .. It’s about karaoke singing & drinking ..
In Filipino drinking sessions, they use one glass; if they have visitors, they will give you your own glass.
This was a very fun watch! Thank you for this.
The “pulutan” shown are the most common pulutan.. the first one is Liempo or grilled pork belly and the other one with sliced chili’s is called sisig or minced pork (face, belly, ears, or any fatty part of pork).
small bits of meat is called Sisig, it can be Pork Sisig, Beef Sisig, Fish Sisig, Chicken Sisig
I think they missed a very critical aspect of a drinking session in the Philippines. And that is the presence of a karaoake machine in ALL and I mean ALL of drinking sessions.
That was great ya'll! 😂😂😂❤❤❤ look forward to watching more stuff like this for sure. I'm still laughing 😂😂😂😂
He’s a former member of a band called Giniling Festival a comedy metal band. He’s a good drummer.
The chicken oil is from a local fast food here in the Philippines.. called mang inasal it's free when you get some orders there.
they were eating inihaw na liempo (grilled pork belly) and sisig.
If both of you are planning to visit the Philippines, Filipinos will welcome you with arms wide open😊
the tuna and crackers is bice when paired with any bubbly alcoholic drink... ❤❤❤
12:01 a little correction, instead of "kampay", "tagay" is a widely accepted term for cheers
So you just take it and move on
Lol I just stumble to your channel and I can help but laugh.
I might be late to say this but at 9:45 thats sisig on the left and sliced and fried pork belly on the right
I watch this many times, and I like your reaction.
Thanks For The Reactions 💖💖💖🫶👍😁👍🥂🍾🍷🥃🍸🍒
That's not chicken oil, its called "chaser" a soda, juice or water. Usually when you drink hard liquor you must have chaser to eliminate the bitterness
There was chicken oil on the table in a sachet. That's what they were talking about.
Bogart is pure blooded Filipino
He's just good in having aussie accent
the (plain) biscuit cracker (broken) mixed with canned tuna (flakes & oil) is true, some will even squeeze some lemonsito (local small citrus fruit) to add that refreshing taste. not only readily available anywhere but relatively cheap
Sharing glass usually happens between close friends/neighbors/kumpare/kumare,relatives family get together.😊
That Filipino comedian came a long way. One of his oldest skits is "The Filipino Squatter" also with an Australian accent lol
We need more of this
These are the most common stereotypes in a drinking session here. There's also the Ambassador/disciple, people who speak in tongues or becomes multilingual.
The drama artist that cries and talks about their exes when inebriated
The comic artist/clown that leads the crowd and makes everyone laugh with their pranks. Can turn into the pest that jumps on another table and can get you in trouble
There are others, but these come from the top of my head.
Ohhh Chicken oil a condiment and is literally the cooking oil used to cook the chicken
