don't know if you did or not but you kneed to hill your potatoes. after the plants get about a foot tall or a bit less hill them up to almost the top of the plant and it will give ample dirt for the potatoes to grow in and give you a much better harvest.
I have researched that very topic for many hours and the information I come up with says you need to do that for indeterminate potatoes. BUT I cannot find information on which potato varieties are indeterminate. I am always willing to learn if you have more information.
