Back in my day the Silkie hen was the best on hatching out any egg. The silkes roosters could be a little mean though. Kinda like being attacked by a Chihuahua. Most bantam chickens are good incubators. The silkies were the best.
Lost a daisy because the male duck accidentally broke her neck while procreating. This summers heat has been tuff. Your families hard work is paying off :) Thanks for sharing.
On thinking about your birds that are dying. I grew up in Maine so we never had the problem I am thinking of but we had lots of cold weather that the birds and animals survived well in, which makes me think that maybe some of your birds are getting snake bit? I mean I have no idea it was just a thought.

I agree, I had silkies in Colorado and they hatched many eggs for me.

It is possible, I grew up in Maine as a child also, beautiful and COLD place.
