I've never been diagnosed with emetophobia, and I can eat what I like with ease, however I have a extreme fear of vomit. I get scared when I feel you know... and when others say they feel sick, or their stomach hurts, I freak out. My heart races, I can't breathe, etc. Especially when I'm in a car with someone who says they feel sick. My goodness I panic so much. I run away instantly if someone gets sick, no matter who it is: baby, child, adult, animal I will freak out. I don't think I have the actual phobia because I still can eat any food I like and I don't get panic attacks. But I do freak out really badly though and have I get anxious around people who drink as well. Especially drunk people. If someone is around me who has been drinking or might be sick I have to have my earphones in with loud music all night to block out any noise. I can't bear the sight nor sound.
Thank you for the helpful tips though. I really appreciate the help.

I do have emetophoiba and I feel the same way as you, drunk people trigger me some times as i just picture them being sick at the end of the night. I have regressed bad to the point I do not eat a lot :/ My advice is try to get help before it regresses, the deeper the whole and the more you let it reprogram your brain the harder it will become to get better

I dont even know why im scared of getting sick. If someone gets sick in a certain spot, I wont step in that spot for a real long time. When my kids ( if I ever have any ) get sick I dont know how im gonna be able to manage 😭😭. Also if someone gets sick around me. I will be really scared that im gonna catch it. Ive had this since I was a kid. Recently my cousin got sick and I literally havent been to school in three days because I havee been feeling sick.

Tinnys Town I had emetophobia too! It has calmed down so much once I became pregnant, towards the end it was pretty much gone and I didn't fear it anymore, i think it helped since I ended up having to experience my baby getting sick lol and after that I felt not so scared of people getting sick

My emetophobia began when I was about 5 years old. Since that was during elementary school, kids didn't associate nausea with getting sick so they wouldn't prepare themselves for possibly getting sick like older kids. Every year, twice or three times a school year, some kid near me would get sick. It was ALWAYS some kid NEAR me. I dealt was with that until I graduated elementary. I caught my first stomach bug in 6th grade and that just amplified my emetophobia even more. I had to witness me and my entire family get sick. Now my emetophobia is bad to the point to where I get shaky and anxious when someone says their stomach hurts. My family has to explain to me (like hunger or gas) what they think is causing it in order for me to calm down. It's really bad....I've avoided it at all costs. Haven't been sick since 6th grade. I'm 19 now and I want children in the future, but the morning sickness is really conflicting me the idea. Emetophobia can be so limiting! :(

LeAnn Mitchell had it since five, possible causes being that I got the bug in the time my parents were getting divorced, and it is so bad, that in third grade, the bug was going around, and I had a meltdown at home because I was so afraid to catch it. I also developed a habit of walking several feet behind my classmates in line, which didn't end until fifth grade

Mine started as a kid. My mom was always getting sick and I just developed a crippling fear of it for some reason. Even now, If I think someone is getting sick, I hide away to see how it plays out. I hate sitting next to people in small spaces *Especially if they're eating or have just eaten* and I literally screamed my lungs out when my mom got sick in the car 4 years ago. Not even a month ago, I had to get out of my seat and move to another table because sitting in booths is disastrous. Sitting on the inside means I can't get out if I am sick, but sitting on the inside means they can't get out if they are sick, so, I had a major anxiety attack and told them to let me out *NOW*. They had little choice. I hate having this phobia, it runs my life...

Does anyone else get the feeling in there throat, where it starts to feel swollen, dry, and sometimes lumpy? It makes me so nervous I'm going to get sick! Does anyone else have that problem when they have anxiety and how do you tell the difference between anxiety and actually being sick?

    • @adrowsyteabag502
      @adrowsyteabag502 4 роки тому

i ALWAYS get this feeling during an anxiety attack, and it is terrifying, but don't worry, it is just your anxiety. your throat will close and uo dry because your basic body functions are shutting down while you prepare for fight and flight mode. most of the time, i am able to tell i'll be okay once i recognize the other anxiety symptoms such as trembling, racing heart, pacing, etc. which basically means i'm just having an attack and that i'll be okay! try to take deep breaths and vocally tell yourself you're okay. :)

I've had emetophobia since I was in pre-school, and I am 22 years old now. It was so bad when I was in 5th grade to the point that I would either stay home from school or would have to be picked up early everyday. I couldn't leave the house without having severe anxiety and working my way into a panic attack. Once I would get home, everything would be fine, but being in public is so scary when I have my attacks. Obviously, my emetophobia never went away, but it didn't affect me as heavily over the years to the point that I couldn't leave the house. Recently, I've been having severe gas pains in my stomach after every meal, causing me to be nauseous at times. I haven't gotten sick since I was in pre-school, but the fear is always there. My anxiety has been getting really bad lately; anytime I feel discomfort in my stomach, I work myself into a panic attack. It's starting to hinder my ability to complete an entire day of work. I either don't go in at all or I leave early in a panic. Luckily I'm obtaining my master's degree online, and don't feel pressured to go to class if I'm not feeling up to it. It's such a scary feeling and I don't want to be like this anymore. I would have never thought my emetophobia would be affecting my adult life just as much as it did in my childhood, if not worse.

I've had this for years. I remember it started years ago, I think it started when I was about 5 years old in kindergarten. Someone would get sick and I would literally hyperventilate and shake for hours. Eventually it got to the point where I would be afraid of certain colors, I wouldn't color with green's/browns/ yellows. And I remember I was about to have my first sleep over with some friends sometime in 2nd grade and we were all playing with dolls and one of the other girls pretended her doll got sick and I immediately freaked out and ran to my mom and begged her to take me home. I've gotten a little bit better throughout the years (I'm 18 now) But it's like all of my anxiety revolves around the fear of getting sick or someone getting sick around me. Like, I have to have some sort of plan all the time to escape if something were to happen. It makes me feel incredibly claustrophobic to be in large crowds of people or rooms with no windows or a door to exit from in sight. It's awful, and one of the worst parts about the panic attacks from emetophobia is that the panic attacks make you feel like you're going to get sick anyway.

My emetophobia started a few years ago. I can remember I was 8 and this girl had just went on a spinny ride and I didn't know this. I asked her to sit beside me on the bus and then she threw up, I can remember holding my little card up to my head and didn't look but I can still picture the v**** in my head. And another story is when I was at this fair and one of my good friends had just been on a ride and I was on it too but in another cart, as soon as I get off and grab my bag, I start to see him violently t**** u* and I had to close my eyes and ears, but mind you I was still standing up on this ride. I quickly shot off it, but on my way he t**** u* RIGHT beside me! I ran as fast as I could and my best friend quickly rushed to me and hugged me to calm me down. All my friends were like 'OMG that was like 2 centimetres from hitting you'. I am now scared to drink and smoke when I get older, walk past nightclubs, sit beside people in cars, etc.

My Emetophobia started when I was 6. I was driving to a zoo with my mom and sister. The second we arrived at the zoo my sister threw up all over the car multiple times, it was horrible. I got so scared and couldn't stop shaking. Now I'm 15 and it's still as bad as before. I think about it every day, it affects my life so much and I honestly hate it soooo much. My family doesn't understand me and that's the worst. I hate car rides, if we drive for more than 30min I make everyone (except for the driver) drink a pill against being sick in the car. I'm also terrified of fainting because my sister throws up when she faints.. I avoid stores in summer because its hot outside and super cold in the stores and that might make me or someone else faint. Everyone i know thinks I'm crazy but I can't explain them how bad it is to live with it. I'll be scared when i have kids one day and that's what terrifies me the most because i love small kids. These videos made me feel better because I'm not the only one who struggles with it😭

I'm so glad I've discovered this video! I've always had a fear of sick since a child but it really heightened and intensified roughly just under four years ago when a girl in my class had a fit in front of me. I wasn't sure why her fitting caused my anxiety to increase but with it my phobia of sick also did. I hated eating meat, always avoided public places, and to this day still have people making fun of me for constantly washing my hands. But things have gotten a lot better for me so there is hope for all!!!! Thank you❤️

I hate going out to dinner in fear of getting food poisoning, I hate car trips with other people because I think they're going to going to get sick, and I hate people even mentioning it because it triggers a panic attack. it gives me HORRIBLE anxiety. I've been debating whether or not to go to a therapist and talk because it really controls my life and gives me anxiety attacks. I just wanted to rant in the comment section and I'm sure no one will read this.

I'm really glad I found you! I've been struggling with emetophobia my entire life along with anxiety and depression. It's so awful to go through these panic attacks. My emetophobia got so bad that I pretty much avoided food altogether and lost a lot of weight, no one I know, knows that I have this phobia. Thank you for making these videos, it really helps to know you're not alone.

I used to have emetophobia. It all started after I missed an important concert because I was sick, and from that point it just got out of control. I was counting incubation periods from The time I went into public until they expired, I had insomnia and would lay awake terrified of being sick, and anytime someone would get sick or even mention not feeling well i would immediately start having a panic attack. It controlled my life for almost four years. Eventually, I got to the point where i started being less afraid of it. I don’t know why my anxiety about it subsided, but I’m glad it did. I still get mildly anxious anytime a friend or family member gets sick, but I no longer have panic attacks over it which is amazing. If you are in the midst of this phobia right now, just know that it probably won’t last forever, at least it didn’t for me.

i noticed my phobia started 3 years ago when i was in 6th grade , a student in my math class ran to the trash can and missed he threw up all over the floor and it was loud and nasty . i got up and started shaking terribly and i started to scream and i cover my ears and kept screaming . my teacher forced me in the corner of the classroom she stood in front of me and told someone to walk the boy out of the room . after that i wouldnt stop screaming and shaking i was crying too , my english teacher ( my fav ) walked over to get me and i had to sit with her classroom . when i was finally allowed to go back into the class i was shaking and i asked to open to windows so everyone can get some fresh air . now that im older i still have that problem whenever someone near me says they are nauseous or about to throw up i get as far away from them as possible and cover my ears and start to shake or if i cant go anywhere i try to talk to into not throwing up , sounds weird but i do it . this also have a big effect on me for when i go to amusement parks i have no problem getting on rides i love them just i tend to make sure ppl arent sick when getting on or i tell them before the ride start if you have to throw up please turn you head away from me .... if anyone else is like this please let me know iam not the only one

I have had Emetophobia since Kindergarten. It started one night when my sister was throwing up. The gagging was triggering me and I got scared of my sister after that. I feel guilty bcuz I feel fear when I had to sit near her at dinner table. My grandma would say I am selfish and my classmates thought I was dumb.

I've dealt with this for a few years!! It's still lingering, but it's gotten better for the most part. I had emetophobia along with a general fear of illness and germs for a few years and it was crippling, but emetophobia was truly the main part of my anxiety. Now it's just a fear of germs and that kind of thing, and like... Mouths?? Idk if that makes sense, but yeah. I truly felt like I was alone when it was affecting me, so I'm glad you're making videos about it and being reassuring :)

I've had emetophobia since I was 10 (**trigger warning**) I was out sledding with my family and on the other side of the hill some guy started throwing up blood after someone knocked into him. It terrified me so much that I ran back to the car. Worst part is the blood stain was visible for weeks after it happened.

I have Emetophobia but not nearly as bad as you have it and I feel so so so bad for you. To know that someone else has that fear 5x worse than me makes me feel so bad. A few days ago my mom felt sick and every time we talked to each other I would cover my mouth and nose with my sleeve and stay as far away from her as possible. I hate to make people feel so bad for being sick but I always tell them that I cant help it and that I have an irrational fear of it. They always tell me "Oh everyone has that fear." Maybe, but a PHOBIA is defined as a tremendous fear that interferes with your everyday life.

I actually like 1000000000010%%%% actually completely relate with you for so many reasons 😭😍🙏🏻♥️ also I hate it when I say "I have Emetophobia which is the phobia of getting sick (which I've had for 7 years and just a few months ago I've gotten sick)" and people immediately say "but no one likes being sick (but they use the tu or p or v word)" and I have to explain the meaning of the word "phobia" ugh and what also sucks is that whenever someone coughs EVEN IF THEY ARENT NEAR ME! I feel like I have to leave cause they'll get sick. I felt so bad for my cousin last summer because she was kinda choking a little bit and I just walked away scared as poop when she could've died! 😂😭 ONE LAST THING I RELATE 100% TO YOU JONA! I have this phobia too and it's so awful, especially since I live near a lot of pubs and bars. What does that mean? Drunk people. And we all know that lots of drunk people get sick very easily. Luckily, I rarely ever get sick myself and whenever anyone in my family is, I stay put in my bedroom until it blows over. I'm also lucky that people in school have the common sense to stay away from school when they feel unwell. I always feel terrified of being ill and whenever I am, even with the tiniest of colds, I absolutely lose it. Plus, I actually used to be a bit of a drinker myself and I fear going back to that and making myself more susceptible to getting sick. I've found people to talk to about it, however, and I'm finally able to open up and it's a really good feeling.

I’m not trying to speak outside anyone’s comfort zone, but the thing about me is that I get car sick, but never usually do get “sick.” But I’ve had at least 8 stomach bugs in the past 6 years, and I’m in Middle school. No one knows that I’m scared to get sick, because I don’t tell anyone but my sister. But I’m sure people have assumptions, and I mostly control it. The thing I do is hold my own hand tight if someone near me is coughing, it actually does help! I also have allergies so I tell myself if it’s a slight cough, it’s my allergies, not illness. Your video has opened a new world to me, and I’m so lucky mine’s not too severe. I only get it if I’m sick, it’s crazy!

I've had emetophobia since I can remember, funny thing, my brother and my best friend have it too....But my brother recently developed it though. Anyways my life has been so so so hard because of that. When I was in elementary school every time a kid got sick I had to sleep with my parents for like a week because I was so so scared and freaked out and they couldn't understand. And now that I'm 20 years old it's even harder to deal with since I get invite to a lot of parties where some of my friends get really really drunk and I'm always afraid they will get sick, and also that's one of the reasons I don't drink, because I fear getting sick, also it's awful every time I get invited to places like six flags and all those kind of stuff. I really really hope this phobia will go away someday because it just make life so complicated. I'm glad I'm not alone in this though, I mean I don't wish this to anybody of course, but the fact that there's more people who experiences this makes me feel like safe, I don't know, like having people who can understand how I feel....thank you so much for sharing your experience and tips and all :)

Hello, thank you so much for sharing this! I'm 24 and I've had emetophobia since I was 6 years old. I honestly don't remember the exact trigger that started it, but I believe it was getting sick in the car and feeling terrified by the ordeal. For 4 and a half years I've been agoraphobic now as a result, so I understand some of the pain you've been through. My life has gotten so much easier in the past 2 years, I'm not stuck in the house anymore but I still am terrified of car rides. Since I was 6, I've only gotten sick one time! It was due to emergency medicine that saved my life when I overdosed and it wasn't scary at all because I was so out of it. So in 18 years, it's only happened once

I am avoiding so many things! I even get scared if I am sitting with someone in a car for like, 2 min. I hate it. Panic attacking is so bad, I hyperventilate and I have constantly pins and needles in my hands and feet! And that is just some of it. That feeling you got in the car when your friend got sick, it happens to me to, I don't feel sorry for the person, I feel sorry for me. Just to know that I am not alone makes me feel so much better.

It Feels Good To Know That I'm Not The Only One Who Has This Phobia... I've never got diagnosed with this, but I KNOW I have it because its my biggest fear and it causes me to have panic attacks every day of my life.. I've had it since I was a 8 && I'm currently 15 and I feel I'm going through hell right now. . . I've been to so many therapeutic programs, inpatient and outpatient programs and I hate them! I got so many counselors and therapist and none of them help 😢 I told my therapist that I'm having sucidial thoughts and so she recommended me to a program called Bournewood and it's not helping me at all . every day I get more and more depressed and distant from the my family and friends. I've been out of school for 2 months and that actually made my anxiety MUCH WORSE because I got use to being around a small setting so when I went back to school o freaked out and I just don't know what to do anymore... I'm tired of stressing my mother out because nothing helps me and I feel bad cause I can't control it because my anxiety litterly controls me.

I have an EXTREME fear of throwing up. I don’t like carry hand sanitizer with me every where I go and stuff but when I feel slightly nauseous I go into full panic attack mode and start shaking profusely and sweating like a mother fucker. I haven’t thrown up in 10 years but I’m so scared for the day it will happen. I think about it every single day. I also can’t be in the same room as someone throwing up or else I have a panic attack and start crying. I feel so stupid for having this fear cause everyone I talk to seems to be like perfectly fine with puking just like it’s an everyday thing :( This is like a crippling fear for me and even like talking about throwing up is so hard for me.
