    I did not think of the woodgrain pen until I had already spray painted my pens, according to the glitter my Daughter chose for her supervisors on her last day....in two days. I would have made them ALL woodgrain. Even the women, using different colors. Darn it. But it's not too late if I use fast set epoxy. I plan to do glitter with UV resin cuz of time issue.

    • @KristisCustomCreations
      @KristisCustomCreations  3 роки тому

      Thank for watching! Yes, you have to mix part A and part B together. For the pens, you don't need much at all. I use medicine cups and I usually mix up around 5mL of epoxy. Be sure to measure evenly because it has to be just right or else it won't cure properly.

      @KristisCustomCreations  3 роки тому +1

      I'm so glad that my glitter tutorial worked for you! 🥰 The area where the sticky residue is left behind.. is it left on vinyl or is it left on epoxy or on the alcohol ink? I'm just trying to make sure I fully understand the question.

    • @customdesignsbydae2420

      @@customdesignsbydae2420 I'm really surprised it didn't pull up the alcohol ink whenever you pulled up the vinyl. Try running your finger over it and see if it will remove the adhesive that way, if not then the best way to remove it would be with alcohol but that will mess up your alcohol ink.

    Hi I just started making these wood grain pens and I’m having trouble with the ends of the pen almost like the epoxy doesn’t go all the way to the end when it dries and makes the grain look lighter in color I did let the alcohol ink dry for some time at least an hour or 2 before epoxy don’t know what I’m doing wrong

    • @KristisCustomCreations

    • @KristisCustomCreations
      @KristisCustomCreations  Місяць тому

      I'm not currently selling them, just teaching others how to do it. When you brush the alcohol ink onto the spray painted pen, as it dries and you brush it, it gives a wood grained look to it. Check out the video I posted about doing the wood grain tumbler, is the exact same process, just a larger object. It will probably make a bit more sense watching it done on a larger object. I hope this helps!

    • @KristisCustomCreations

    I have a question for you. I just made my first attempt at doing a woodgrain pen using the alcohol inks. Whenever I put the first layer of ink on and let it dry a bit, I'll do a second coat and for some reason, it seems to pull the first layer up or make it lighter. I can't seem to get a smooth woodgrain look after that first layer. It's almost like I have to dab the ink on instead of brushing it to keep from the previous layer becoming light or like lifting up. Hopefully you understand what I'm trying to explain.

    • @KristisCustomCreations
      @KristisCustomCreations  3 роки тому

      I understand exactly what you are trying to explain. It's really hard to kind of put into words how to avoid that issue but yes the new alcohol ink will take the old alcohol ink away. If you can put a little bit on there and let it start drying slightly before you start brushing it then that does help to keep more ink on the pen. I hope that makes sense. It's weird how some cups/pens do it more than others for me. As you work more and more with the alcohol ink, you will get the hang of exactly how to work with it as it dries. Blowing on it while brushing it on can help it dry faster as you are brushing it which will also help prevent it from removing the ink some. I really hope that makes sense. Have you seen the l my cup tutorial doing the woodgrain?

    I have let my alcohol ink dry and when I try to go over my pen again to make it darker it's like it lifts the first layer of alcohol ink off. Could it be the cheap white spray paint I am using?

    • @KristisCustomCreations
      @KristisCustomCreations  3 роки тому +1

      No, it isn't the spray paint. When you put alcohol ink over dried alcohol ink, it pretty much lifts it up because it's alcohol that you are putting over the alcohol ink. I basically try to do the alcohol ink all at one time and try to build up layers of it as I work with it in order to make it darker. I have found that if you blow on the alcohol ink while it's on your PIN or cup, it helps it dry faster which helps it thicken up to darken the color of it. I hope that makes sense.

    • @KristisCustomCreations

      You can Epoxy over the spray paint but you will need to spray it again over the epoxy. The alcohol ink sticks to the paint much better than it will to the Epoxy

    I started making a couple of these and the alcohol inks started removing the white paint. I painted them yesterday, so I don't think I started too soon. I repainted and applied a coat of epoxy. Hopefully, they'll do better tomorrow.

      What kind of paint did you use and was the paint completely dry? If the paint isn't completely dry then the alcohol ink can remove it as you are describing.
