  • Dozens of old San Diego trolleys are getting a new life in South America. KPBS reporter Matt Hoffman visited the Metropolitan Transit Systems train yard and got to see how the cars will be used to expand rail service more than 6,000 miles away.

Gonna miss seeing the older generation trolleys, but at least they’re not getting scrapped

I loved those old San Diego Trolley cars from the 90s since when I was little especially for the Siemens SD-100 Model.

One of the first gens, U2, I think, are in the Perris, CA railway museum. The 2nd gens SD100 usually run between two of the latest cars, which are S70.

When I got to San Diego in 1980 the trolley wasn't running. Came back from a wespac in 1981 and the trolley was going full blast. I thought the trolley was awesome and I loved riding it. It actually made me think how much San Diego's leadership thought of their citizens and it made me prouder to be serving the country--especially San Diego. Whenever my ship was in port, I rode the trolley from H Street to 8th or 32nd street. I miss San Diego. I miss the trolley. San Diego is absolutely the cleanest big city in America with the nicest people. I hate what the democrats and Gavin Nuisance is doing to California. I spent 15 years in the Navy between Long Beach and San Diego. I just saw a video today saying Long Beach Naval Station was sold to the Chinese communists. It's now a big, flat loading dock. I almost puked when I heard that.
