    30mins in and welldone. I am a hair care stylist and would love to chat with you. But I live in the UK. Your philosophies is what I researched and found out years ago qualifying as a hair stylist. And I think stylist that specialize in Hair Care needs to populate and needs to also be in clients contacts too.

    These stylists do nothing but fearmongering. I heard about this “air drying is damaging” thing and I started freaking out because I mostly do air drying, I try to avoid heat precisely because it’s damaging. So now you’re telling me the only other way to dry my hair is also damaging it? So if that’s true, what exactly am I supposed to do?
    Humans have been “air drying” their hair since he dawn of time and we somehow didn’t all end up bald!
    This happens when they tell “oils and butters are bad” “bonnets are bad” to people who have been doing those for years and those things work out perfectly for them. You’re telling me this affordable product I’ve been using for years is actually bad for me? I’m supposed to buy something more expensive? What if I don’t have he money for that?
    There needs to be an emphasis, specially from professionals, that everyone’s hair is different and you don’t have to follow trends to make it healthy. I think baby naturals and people who are transitioning are more vulnerable to this because a lot of them were never taught how to handle natural hair, I know I wasn’t.
    As for curly cuts, even if they weren’t damaging, I think the results are often just ugly. It might look good after you leave the salon but what happens when you can’t style your hair like the stylist did? Suddenly your left side hair is longer than the right one. I think it’s also disrespectful to the hard work of clients trying to grow out their hair to just hack it like that. Reminds me of this video you reacted to years ago of some girl who had a curly cut and her hair was different lengths all around and she was very upset by it.

      Very well thought out. And I agree 💯! The one thing that I will say that did damage that I didn't know was letting it air dry in a ponytail. It will stink. That smell is the start of mold. No matter how much you wash. Hydro-fatigue is a real thing.

    • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  Рік тому +2

      That was because you were creating a fungal infection of the scalp. You can't just wash that out, you have to kill the fungal overgrowth

    • @Apixi
      @Apixi Рік тому

      @@AfrikanHairGod I don't know about that. I seem to be fine. That was over ten years ago. I stopped wearing ponytails all together. My hair is too fragile. It's never been healthier. The 3 biggest game changers for me was daily leave-in conditioner on the ends. And throughout the day if it started to look dry. Because, yes, it was so dry, dry, dry. Then deep conditioning, and then I had to find the right oils. I'm allergic to coconut oil.

    • @AfrikanHairGod
      @AfrikanHairGod  Рік тому +6

      @@Apixi I'm saying that's what happened. The weird smell that you noticed was from fungus. That's why you couldn't just wash the smell out because it was emitting from your skin. It smells like mold because mold is a type of fungus. The body will eventually normalize itself. The smell was from keeping your scalp moist and not letting it dry. That encourages fungal growth. Fungus is ever present on everyone's scalps but when it's out of balance you will develop acute conditions like you did. I'm just saying that that wasn't related to hygral fatigue (not hydro fatigue).

    • @Apixi
      @Apixi Рік тому

      @@AfrikanHairGod Ah!!! That makes sense. I was a kid and my Dad was always putting perms on my hair. I would say, "My hair would kick a perms azz!!!" My scalp is so healthy now. But as much as you know, there's always more to learn. I'm learning so much from you!

    Technique, technique, technique
    With BGC, using the approach they do, putting styling in the hands of consumers leaves opportunities for mistakes with self taught education and digital guidance. The movement back to the salons, which was another aim of bgc, seems to be effective so far. The problem, from what you’ve said and what I’ve heard based on your clients and the comments, lies in the gap where consumer and stylists techniques mutually fail. You can teach but everybody not gon execute properly. Issa great learning curve and everybody ain’t got it so I’m glad the ppl who it’s not working for are getting the help they need.
    Also, regarding essential elements of hair i know with my fine strands and dense hair I gotta be very careful of how I style. I just watched video a black woman showing stylists in korea how to style kinky hair into a fro RIP through her ends instead of carefully undoing the knot (she hasn’t been to a stylist in years 😭). Internal health is important as well at my worst anemic state my hair fell out drastically so i have to keep an eye on my numbers. One of your clients that has curly cuts was a new mom and I’m not shifting blame but I know the hair fall and changes that happen after that can lend itself if you already have problems.

    I’m never going back to raw oils, butters and grease those don’t hydrate hair and I don’t like the feel. My hair feels oily after 3 or 4 days and I don’t add any thing after I cleanse condition and style but that’s my hair. I use great products (that contain oils and butters)and I know how and when to use them. But maybe some people like raw oils and butters and maybe that’s what their hair loves. 😊
