If anything Saturn was the last system by sega that didn't reek of desperation. It still had plenty of desperation in it, what with the second CPU that was implemented so well all of 3 games could even use it, but unlike the Dreamcast, most of the library isn't horribly rushed. Surprisingly there's actually another difference between the PC and the Saturn version besides the FPS on the CG cutscenes. The special stages are different. The halfpipe looks different and Sonic actually looks more like his in-game character than that other model they have them as on that Saturn version of the special stages. I personally prefer the Genesis version and it may be because of the music. I did once have the PC version back when I was a kid in the late '90s or was the mid '90s and forget when I got it but it was when Jack in the box you could get various PC games of well Sega games with your kids meal. There was Sonic 3D blast, there was this Sonic and knuckles collection that included Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic and knuckles, as well as Sonic 3 and knuckles, and then there was a non-sonic game I also played called Bug. On a video I saw last year I found out there was actually another game from Jack in the box that I wasn't aware of at the time. The PC version is also different from Saturn and Genesis version. More like it is in the middle ground between the two. It has the Saturn stage graphics minus the effects like rain and fog, the music is the same from Saturn, but the special stages are a simplified 3D half pipe similar but inferior than the Saturn version, with only rings and obstacles like the Genesis version, without the springs and platforms like the Saturn version.
I had never seen that pic of Sonic at 9:44. Thank you for sharing that; I admit, I like it more than I probably should. Awesome video, dude! As someone who grew up with neither version, I enjoy the OST to the Saturn version more, but mainly because of Rusty Ruin sounding like an Enigma song.

I think between the Genesis and Saturn versions I prefer the Saturn version because of the weather effects and soundtrack (Diamond dust act 2 theme is so amazing). But the directors cut version of the game is definitely the best, because of added super sonic, it made the game easier to control, it added a hub world, and an actual save system (which the Genesis and Saturn version lacked I think) Great video!!

I’m leaning towards the US version. Just like the Saturn version of Sonic 3D Blast, the OST fits the atmosphere of the Zones/Level, and it can translate to reality. You can listen to the Saturn OST of Rusty Ruins Act 1 or 2 on a rainy day, or Diamond Dust Act 1 or 2 on a Christmas Day or season. Sonic music perfectly fits the mood of world we live in, maybe that’s me. LOL
Man I loved this vid. I always thought that the Saturn version was just a port with a different special stage, that I was always told that was "meh". I think I enjoy more the Genesis Soundtrack, but the Saturn Soundtrack seemed to be a nice banger. I'm definitely gonna try the Saturn version now. I definitely loved the Special Stage. It looked so cinematic that I wouldn't believe it's a 1996 game.
The Saturn's visual upgrades are great, but the slow load times aren't fun. I personally preferred the Genesis/Mega Drive special stages to the Saturn version half pipe versions. I find them kind of annoying. The full pipe style in Knuckles Choatix is more approachable compared to a half pipe. I still find myself going back to the Genesis/Mega Drive port, even though I own it and the Saturn port.
I'm sorry, but the Diamond Dust songs on Genesis aren't very good. In fact, the soundtrack on the Genesis version is bad overall. It's actually very disappointing for a Sonic game - especially when you consider the fact that the other Sonic games on Genesis had amazing soundtracks. I can't even play the Genesis version of Sonic 3D Blast. It's an eyesore and an earsore. I'm sorry for my strong opinions. lol.
I've actually played both versions, but didn't notice/remember the differences. It's probably because I played them years apart and honestly hate the game. Still, interesting stuff 👍🏽
I have never played the Sega Saturn version of Sonic 3D blast because I do not have a Sega Saturn. But wouldn't mind trying it for the Saturn. One thing that would of probably helped in my opinion for the Sega Genesis version would be an Analog stick. I think that would help because Sonic is so slippery and make him hard to control. If Sonic team would of made the game Sonic would of probably felt the same as he did in the 2D games. But still is a good game and very under rated in my opinion. It was my first Sonic title for my Sega Genesis I got the trilogy later to finish out my Sonic collection.
the best thing about this game on Saturn is the bonus stage. The gameplay is so slow, repetitive and boring. Goes to show how Sega dropped the ball massively with Saturn. When this came out, a mere 16 bit game with better colors and music, PS1 was getting Crash Bandicoot and Super Mario 64 was already out.
I'd take the Genesis soundtrack any day. I hated the CD audio they had to shoehorn in CD games at the time. It was always bad Sonic Foundry ACiD loop music or crappy Roland MT midi songs. I'm glad to see 3D Blast get some love though, it was a good game
Comment part 2 chaos emeralds sonic stages 16 bit Genesis game or mega drive is better and player friendly The Sega Saturn chaos emeralds sonic stages is not chaos emeralds sonic stages that suck sonic cd sonic 2 with tails Sonic 3D Blast The Sega Saturn sonic hero's sonic mania plus and now its superstars there have not bin a player friendly ,chaos emeralds sonic stages, for over 35 years every sonic game i collected until i stopped as i saw the truth
The sonic 3D blast on Genesis/Mega Drive have two music that can be heard in the first sonic adventure in the end of Windy Valley and twinkle park bumper cars level
In a perfect gaming world the saturn would of won the 32bit wars and sony should of been the ones to quit gaming after their first PlayStation failed. And nintendo vs sega would continue their epic battle
The Genesis version has some nice music... It would be a shame if someone were to badly convert it into the DS soundfont and stick it in a subpar unfinished RPG.
I had sonic 3d blast not just on Saturn but on PC disc as a kid as I was a Sega fanboy. The music in Saturn and pc version is infinitely superior to the point I could not even listen to the Genesis version it sounded so awful. You are not gonna tell me the ruins stage and the ice stage dont have some of the best music in sonic games on Saturn/pc
The Saturn version is obviously superior, but IMO the Genesis version is cooler because it pushes the venerable system to its very limit. Yeah, the video files are low quality, but they're running on a stock Genesis straight from the cartridge. Other people have also marveled at how colorful the "Traveler's Tales" splash screen is. The in game graphics are also really impressive. Call me oldschool, but Sonic 3D Blast on the Genesis was essentially the system's final call and it didn't disappoint.
funny thing is. for a sega genesis game it is an impressive game. for the sega saturn it is a weak effort. i don't have the sega saturn version and maybe at one time need to own it.
Also the Saturn ost is extremely underrated, people need to appreciate it more. It's basically sonic CD but expanded

I love how you compared the exact game, just for different consoles
Comment part 2

16 bit Genesis game or mega drive is better and player friendly

every sonic game i collected until i stopped as i saw the truth
The sonic 3D blast on Genesis/Mega Drive have two music that can be heard in the first sonic adventure in the end of Windy Valley and twinkle park bumper cars level
For me, mainly, I do prefer them Mega Drive/Genesis version because I find the OST better, in my opinion. But the Saturn OST is great too.
Saturn port feels like HD TEXTURE PACK 3 from Nexus - questionable. Mostly because it was.
Just got this for my Saturn and wow its fun as hell. Didnt care for the sega Genesis version. This one has better graphics and the music is amazing
Honestly both of the osts are good i just love the credits song from the saturn i was just listening to it today anyway how is your day going?
true
then why is it that the 16 bit Genesis game or mega drive have better music
same can send for sonic cd JP metal sonic music for mega cd drvie
I have heard a lot of people analyze this game but I just can’t get myself to appreciate 3D Blast.
These games are fun but have slippery controls. The controls are not different between the versions.
I have the Genesis version.
You should talk about the 3d in 2d fan game and how different it is from the official versions and the dx version
Cool video
Diamond Dust started the trend, it was used before, but it was the first time that it was used so mainly...
I really wish Sega would release a collection exclusive for Saturn and Dreamcast games plus some Arcade...not forgetting knuckles chaotix
Does anyone know the name of all of the songs in the background in this video???
I would've loved the Saturn version, with the Genesis OST
I've never heard Sonic R Man's last name pronounced that way, but tbh I've never heard it consistently pronounced anyway lmao
Saturn's Panic Puppet Act 2 is a severely underrated gem.
I remember this game as Sonic 3d Flickies Island
Volcano Valley Act 2 on Genesis is the theme song of my life.
3D blast was horrible. Just had a weird creepy vibe
diamond dust on genesis reminds me of Sonic Dash. seriously
The Saturn version allows for use of the joystick
I hate the myst that is used on half of the Saturn's version.
I know they have the same zones but are the map layouts the same?
