This is the best and easiest to understand mixing charts I have seen. Thanks Emma.

I am doing a similar exercise and doing it with all my yellows with all my blues. It has been a lot of work, but I am really getting to know which combination makes what. I think your comment about labeling the names of the colors you use on a chart is very important. It is a fun exercise, and a great way to really getting to know how to spread paint for a beginner. Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. It is much appreciated!

Omg, the masking tape is Genius! As lame as this sounds (and it probably makes No sense), I haven't done any color charts because of the making the squares part. I'm OCD and I'd have to get it perfect, and that stresses me out, but for my weird non-sensical self, the tape makes sense. In fact, I'd been contemplating using my Cricut to do this. The loose watercolor style is really the reason I've felt confident enough to try, (successfully!) painting, and I hope it will help free up that locked part of my mind that has held me back in art (and much of my life) - having to get everything perfect, and not even trying because I assume I can't.
💐I wanted to mention to you Ms. Emma, that your videos are very calming and pleasant for me, and even if I'm depressed (Bi-Polar too 🙄), and don't feel like painting-or anything else, I'm Always in the mood to watch you. You just come across as so kind and understanding and chill, like no pressure. I hope that makes sense. This video had tons of good tips, like creating shadows of colors, and really demonstrates the importance of doing these charts, and that you don't need to buy so many colors. Thanks so much! 🥰

Nice video Emma. I believe the reason why your initial mix of blue and orange yielded green results is because the “orange” that you chose to use actually leans very yellow, at least on my screen. Anyway, love your art and your videos! :)

Thank you for this video. I'm a card maker only been doing it for two years. I love to watercolor but I'm not the best, I love doing it. I need to watch more videos like this!
Great idea of hanging those up in a frame for help. I'll have to do that!

This was a great video, Emma! I'd forgotten about some of these mixtures. It seems I just can't find a yellow ochre I'm happy with and you fixed that problem for me!
I so admire you. You are an inspiration to all of us. It is hard doing the Mom-life, but at least on film, you seem to have it all together...and I know from long-ago experience, you probably stuggle just like the rest of us! But thank you for plugging along and teaching us so much about art and life, too! Now, I'm off to mix the "perfect" yellow ochre! 🤗💛

I love colour mixing charts, it helps you to get to know your colours. As a beginner I find it helps to have a limited palette of the 3 primaries or split primaries. It's amazing what colour range you get.

It's a useful video and I shared it with my students. But I think the ultramarine blue works much better for the blue/orange chart. You mentioned that and I agree. People often make green by mistake. I think if you had used cadmium orange it also would have been more effective. Thanks

Does it help to know what the color pigments are in your selected color you choose to mix( ex. PB 29, PB17) and whether there may be more than one Pigment in your chosen color.?
