Scott Miller is a man of many talents, he is not only a game designer, but also a good businessman. Had he been more hands on with DNF's development, I'm sure it would have at least released within a reasonable timeframe. Not that I put the blame on him, he was working on different projects at the time. Prey was a different beast, when they started the tech just wasn't there yet for the gameplay portals. They also really struggled to make a 3D accelerated version of the engine after Mark Dochtermann left. Still, I really liked Human Head's version of Prey, and I'm still pissed that Bethesda murdered Prey 2. Nu3DRealms, as it's known colloquially, isn't doing that hot currently outside the new Ion Fury Aftershock expansion, which I was playing while listening to this very interview. Phantom Fury's trailer turned out to be a bit of a Potemkin village, as the demo was met with mostly negative reception.

Prey '06 was, if I recall correctly, my first ever Xbox 360 game and I'm grateful for it to be a part of my childhood. Genuinely surprised about Phantom Fury. I've honestly been wanting to distance myself from the boomer shooter scene for quite some a time (a bit of a Potemkin village in itself in different ways, based on personal experiences), but I didn't realize it was going this sourly for nu-3DR et al. Cheers for the info, though. I just hope they can buck up their ideas.
@@JakeTheVoice The boomer shooter fatigue is starting to set in for a lot of people. It kind of became its own genre over the years, and the games no longer look and feel anything like the original throwback shooters. I got interested in Phantom Fury because of the DNF2001-like trailer, but when I played the demo and it was raw. I think it can be salvaged, but not if they release it in 2023 as it was originally planned.

Is Duke Nukem his actual name or is it just some sort of a hero name? Does Duke Nukem have a regular civil name?
As far as we know, that is Duke's real name in-universe.
