- If you're radio is suffering from CRS (Can't Remember S...tuff), give it a battery-ectomy followed by an add-a-watt-to-me and she'll be as good as new!

Where possible, all links are affiliate links, this youtube thing is an expensive endeavor and every little bit helps.
Nice video! Pretty good tear down and simple battery replacement.
Thanks! 👍
I worked for kenwood for 32 years. you are the first person to recognise JIS screws. 10/10 for you.
Real Recognize Real! I used to wrench on metric bikes (Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki) Treat'em Right!
Watching TO tear apart another radio. Merry Christmas to me!
If you watch it twice, does that makes it "The gift that keeps on giving"?
Just got one of these TS-570Ds about 2 months ago. Just got my antenna stuff ready (a TennTennas transformer and 132 feet of 26 gauge wire - I hope to be able to put the wire up in the attic (HOA restrictions - Townhome.... sigh). I can hardly wait to fire it up !!!! (I hope it will tune and be efficient up in the attic). It is a Beautiful radio.... much more advanced than what I used back in 1989 (HW-101 and SB-104A). 73's !!!
You got a great radio. You're going to have a lot of fun with it
That repair looks so simple I believe I could actually do it. Thanks, Steve.
Yes, I believe you could!
I used this radio TS-570D 20 years ago. I still have in storage somewhere. The only problem I remembered having is the LCD screen with water drops inside. Maybe due to the climate of my country. Jose / HP2AT.
Excellent! Not bad at all!
Thanks for the video. I have a ts-570d. Never replaced the battery. Should probably change it out.
You'll probably notice if you need any features the battery provides, but it's easy
As you found out, you only needed to take out the top two side screws, loosen the bottom side screws while leaving the faceplate and knobs in place. You’ll be so much faster the next time! Glad you are on Team 570!
It's a great radio!
such a cool radio! Hope you're enjoying it! Peace!
It's been a lot of fun!
Merry Christmas Steve, to you and your family.
Merry Christmas Jan!
My TS-930S has those batteries on the top, and a sliding cover to reach them. I may start the replacing of it's main power supply today.
Sounds like a fun project, Merry Christmas LC!
I have a question for you. My 570d just out of the blue the audio just became very low and muffled like having a pillow over the speaker. Same in external speaker and headphones. Any ideal what could cause that?
I'd look inside to see how the speaker's health is (connector cleanliness, tears, blockages?) then I'd start taking a close look at capacitors and see if any have bulging tops or leaky bottoms. Anything obvious compared to how a capacitor should look... then... who knows?
You should MARS mod it and add some shinny new knobs while you're in there. Hopefully the battery has a long lifespan. Thanks for the video!
Good ideas!
Nice Christmas Vid! Thanks and Merry Christmas to everyone!. Just wanted to make one point, while some radios have the battery, some do not, and just write the info to a non-volatile memory chip. To save the limited number of write cycles to the chip, they don't update each time you spin the VFO.. but instead write at shut down. Those that do that, don't like just loosing power by turning off the power supply. The power button allows it to write the data to the memory and do a orderly shut down. Just something to keep in mind when "powering down".
Interesting fact, thanks for sharing - Merry Christmas!
Ace! My TS570 no longer has 'dementia' every time its powered off.
Sweet!
If you look for the datasheet for this speaker, it will be the cheapest one o the market, and you can easily find a replacement with a higher dynamic range?
Hey, thanks!
Wish the clock battery in my Icom 7300 would be this easy. Great video. Kenwood thinks things out a bit more.
Kenwood makes some good radios!
Normally, changing the setup battery is recommended to perform the radio setup, otherwise the battery drains quickly.
Setup battery replacement.
Procedure:
Once you have access to the battery,
remove it and then turn on the
radio and turn it off. then do
the reset, still with the radio
off, press and
keep in this condition
the "A=B" key and reconnect
by the "POWER" key. Now
release the "A=B" key and place the
new battery in socket
while still "POWER ON".
Under these conditions the
battery consumption will be
normal. Still power on, do
measure the battery voltage,
if the "reset" has been done, this
measurement will be very close to
same measure in the battery being
out of socket ie no load.
Great, thanks!
Tbh I could watch relays, coils and all that stuff all day ;)
Me too! The more you watch, the more it starts to make sense.
Anyone know the number for the replacement battery for this radio
Linked in the description for you: Batteries: geni.us/EtGVL
Great video! What's the battery type we have to buy?
Batteries: geni.us/EtGVL
Thanks
Easy fix to save alot if vfo turning or remembering what frequency you were on.👍
Right!
For those who wish to know, the battery is the CR2032 ua-cam.com/video/vN-VyL4vWdI/v-deo.htmlsi=R2oXwGJpCaNfzYxK&t=177
Thanks for sharing.
My battery finally went bad after 20 years and easy to replace and cheap.
It had a good long run, that.
