=========================
`After Blenheim' is an excellent anti-war poem by Robert Southey written in 1796. It is part of the syllabus in ICSE Board in both class 9 and 10.
It is the story of grandfather Kaspar and his two grandchildren peterkin and wilhelmine. Peterkin finds a skull and both ask what it is and how did it come there. Old Kaspar tells the story of the battle of Blenheim in which thousands of people died, only for the glory of the Duke of Marlbaro and Prince Eugene. It is a poem about the futility of war.
T S Sudhir gives a detailed explanation in English about the poem, putting it in context and explains each word of the poem and tells how to interpret the poem.

Sir could you help me in
state briefly the moral of the poem after Blenheim
my answer: the poem disapproves any war as it brings with itself death, devastation, loss, and grief. the poet conveys that great victories are rendered useless when everything else is lost.
what else can I add sir
You can add that it it condemns the blind patriotism and state propaganda indoctrine in common people intensionaly by waring parties
also the poem emphasises in difference in the way of thinking of Old Kaspar and his grandchildren (GENERATION GAP)
Moral-: War causes a lot of destruction and devastration and loss of life of thousands of innocent people. Political leaders escape while common masses suffer.

Sir why did grand father had a natural sigh and why he shook his head
Thank you sir tomorrow is my exam of English literature and your explanation helped a lot sir
What a fluent English!!👏
Sir, how is the skull a mute testimony to the horrors of war? Could you please explain.
And can you please set a practice paper for class 9 ICSE as we have our board exam on February 10th
What is the sole remnant of the war and its horrors? The Skull. But it is a mute testimony because obviously it conveys the horrors of the war that took place. It is a stark reminder of what happened then, the skull has an eerie feel to it ...
practice papers??class 9 annual examination on Feb10th
@@sharmilam8100 how do you know that papers are on 10th February
Sir can you provide us with pdf of notes which you prepared ?
Sir I suggest that after explaining ask some of the very important questions pls.
So that we can have them and can understand that we have understood the chapter. Its a kind request.
സൂപ്പർ 😁😁
malayali spotted😂😂
Sir i don't understand what you have mentioned in 14:20. Could you please explain?
I have said Old Kaspar is rather matter-of-fact about the destruction caused by the battle. It does not seem to bother him that there was so much loss of life, property.
❤️❤️❤️
Sir I have a question !!
Why did Old Kasper shake his head and Sigh ?
Sir super and amazing explation
sir is old kespar a sarcastic character because in workbook it is written that he has a sarcastic role?
\
Sir if a ques comes- Point out the refrain in the poem? What effect does the refrain have on the reader?.......what shall we write as an ans. ?
the refrain is the great and famous victory said by old kaspar ... You will need to talk about why he says that ... and what does the reader understand about the war ... and kaspar as a result of the refrain.
@@StudywithSudhir thankyou so much sir🙂
@@StudywithSudhir sir it would be a great help if you can make a video on litreary and some poetic devices just for few minutes...as i really need help to understand different figures of speech and the various devices. 🙂
Sir in 2021-22 batch please tell us which stories and poems are important from examination point of view.
Sir what is the main theme of the poem..
From what Kasper says about war, what can you say about his attitude towards war?
Sir, please clarify my doubt
Kasper was aware of destruction death and horror of the war even was a suffere but still praise it and calls it great and famous victory though it resulted in death of thousands of people ... the shows that attitude was convectional and he was insensitive to the human cost of War.. He was guided by blind patriotism and state propaganda
Hello sir
I request u to give some detail description for the question
Why does the old man refer to the war as a great victory? And
Wt theme is evident from the initial description of the poem?
It wd b great ful if u wd answer my questions
Thnk u
How is the poem an Example of Ballad?? Pls . explain
What is a ballad? It is a poem or a song (called a ballad song) that narrates a long story in short stanzas. So you see After Blenheim fulfils this criterion. Two, traditional ballads are usually a story that has been passed on orally from one generation to the next. Here too, Old Kaspar has heard of it being a great victory, famous victory ... and he is parroting the same to his grandchildren.
Also this story of the battle is mostly in dialogue form, another characterstic of a ballad.
Great and elaborate explanation.
Also I guess Peterkin is pronounced as pu•tar•kin
Sir I have a doubt ' Why it is said that it is an Antiwar poem '
Sir what is the meaning of the line 'with wonder-waiting eyes' ?
It means that she was expecting an answer from Old Kaspar.
@@muskaannaqvi129 Thanks for clearing my doubt👍
@@muskaannaqvi129 thanks it was my doubt too
It means that she looked at her grandfather with anticipation and was expecting an answer from him. This justifies the 2nd theme of the poem - Curiosity and lack of it
@@suhanivetrivel3173 thnx
Hello sir,
please give a snap of important question at the end because it's difficult to write the question . 🙂 Btw thanks sir.
Sir could you also explain the critical appreciation and themes of the poem?
I have explained it in great detail in the video sharmila.
Hello sir do we have to remember poet's name and about them also ?
2019 paper poet name was mentioned but not in case of two of the three stories. So it is good to remember. no harm.
Sir Thanks 😊😊😊😊☺️☺️👌👌👌
Thanks sir 😊😊😊👍😁👍😁
Rocket Science is possible task when students have a mentor like you. 💯%
Sir ur teaching is literally mind blowing..
I had a doubt relating this chapter.. Why did old Kesper shake is head with a natural sigh?
Its a kind of an old sigh of him trying to remember
its because he was used to finding skulls in the garden

Your notes add boost to the explanation.
