  • PART 2 OF 3 in our Lindos, Rhodes Greece series we take you for a full tour of the Acropolis of Lindos. We show you what to watch out for and w=hat to expect when you visit this fantastic historical site.
"Situated on the Greek island of Rhodes, Lindos is a town full of ancient history and legends, a lot of which is still evident today. Famous for being the second most visited archaeological site in Greece, coming second only to Delphi, there are many artefacts, buildings and monuments packed into this small town."

"You’ll have three beaches to choose from in Lindos: calm Pallas Beach, secluded St. Paul’s Bay, and the main beach, Megali Paralia. Save time to explore the town itself, too. It’s a bit of a hike up to the acropolis, but the view is magnificent."

"The most impressive archaeological site on Rhodes, according to most visitors, is Lindos. At first glance, everyone who approaches the village coming from the north of the island driving south is compelled to come to a full stop, feeling the urge to experience and take in the spectacular natural terrain, with the acropolis standing on a gigantic rock, the white village houses and the crystal blue waters. The vista here is simply awe-inspiring!
The streets of Lindos are a maze of continuous buildings, chiefly with interior courtyards. Most of the houses have flat roofs, but some variety of types can be seen among the buildings that have not been affected by time and changes of use and shape. The material used in their construction is either the local quarried limestone (porolithos) or field stones which have been plastered and whitewashed.
White flat-roofed cottages ascend up a slope from a golden, shallow, sandy beach, forming a light belt around the north side of the castle on the hill, over the tranquil waters of a broad, rocky harbor. The Acropolis of Lindos' majestic fortress sits enthroned above. The pillars of a dainty small temple, once devoted to the goddess Athena Lindia, can be seen behind the warlike walls if you look closely. The most impressive archaeological site on Rhodes, according to most visitors, is Lindos. Thanks for your video, one of my absolute favourite places. My husband and I stayed in Pefkos just up the road from Lindos in 2015 and visited the acropolis. That first view of those ancient t pillars blew me away, I felt strangely emotional being somewhere that was so ancient

Great videos, it’s making me excited for my trip next year! We will be staying in Pefkos and visiting Lindos, Lardos and hopefully Rhodes old town if we have time.
Viv maybe right about the Minoan’s as I’m pretty sure they were around at the temple ruins at Knossos over in Crete, which we visited last year.
