Jiu-Jitsu Positions & Submissions | The Gift Wrap

- The Gift Wrap Position is a powerful modification on the technical mount, which gives you a lot of control over the bottom opponent. This allows you more ability to transition to the back, set up submissions, as well as great striking opportunities.
In this video, Jared Jessup and I explore the technical details of achieving, controlling and manipulating this position. Hope you like it.

Every video you make with Jared feels like we're privy to a really deep level conversation by two experts that is somehow still really accessible. You're both awesome but you play off each other really well and that adds a little extra to the videos!
That means a lot. Thank you! We have been training together for a couple decades or so now, so we know each other pretty well. I really appreciate it.
These guys are so good!
Also known as the "You're screwed" position.
Love the mounted triangle around 7:30! It's one of my favorite submissions
Ha! We just started exploring gift wraps at my gym yesterday.

Knight & Jessup are such a great combo. 👍
🙌🙌🙌🙌
One instructor explaining is great but it's so much more informative with two.
Great video!
shortcuts:
0:40 = flatten out back take
3:05 = sit up back take
4:50 = arm bar
7:15 = triangle
Unfortunately no head&arm triangle, no anaconda/darce and no ezekiel. But maybe there will be a second video ;)
Thank you!!
You two make a great duo.
I’m a white belt just hitting my one month mark of Ju Jitsu I’m about 150 and right at 6 foot tall with a 6’4” wing span and not only am I curious to how I can use that to my advantage but the reason I’m commenting is because I’m finally able to understand most of this and I think these moves are going to be great for me. Your videos have been my favorite to watch and learn from, I’m able to tune into your frequency and really pay attention so thank you and it’s safe to say I’m hooked I doubt I’ll walk away from this sport I’ve met some cool people already!
I’m really happy to hear your experience so far has been a great one and that you use my channel as a resource. With the frame of body you seem to have I would really be exploring some arm triangles, darces, anacondas etc. perfect build for those.
I LOVE me a gift wrap. Couple new options for me in this video, so, big thanks for putting it out here for free 🙌🙏🙌
Thank you, my frenge!
Think I found my 2nd best positions n submission I like. Disabling that arm is a big plus in ju jit or Street fight
such and excellent video loved the deep dive into to the Triangle choke in great detail
You two make the best team. Your videos are so helpful! Thanks for what you do!
We have 2 new courses we just finished with BJJ fanatics that will be coming in the near future too. And we just finished work on a huge digital seminar with the Budo Brothers that should be out in February. We are having a blast finally getting to work together more
Welp, this was pretty helpful.Really helped me in jiu jitsu. Thanks Eli!
Most impressive! Could you do a video on a gift wrap escape?
Thanks
Thank you! And yes, I made an escape video a while back ua-cam.com/video/kZLtBSKE6BY/v-deo.html
This is the greatest video I've ever seen! I did this instinctively just by the feel of their weight distribution. 10 outta 10 on instruction!
I have zero flex frim being old. Are you guys in MA? Id love to leatn tje feel of movement!
I really appreciate that a lot. I am actually based out of Charlotte, NC currently.
Outstanding! As usual 👊
AMAZING video guys... Thank you.
I needed this. Very cool!
Good Stuff!
I know you get a lot of requests, but you did a few submissions from guard videos in the past and I was wondering if you can do a new one. The defenses are all figured out pretty well now. Thanks as always.
It’s definitely something I’ve been looking at revisiting. I’ll put it on the list! Thanks for the suggestion 🙏
Very nice 👍🖒thank you 👍
This is good. I just got caught in this and I had no idea what to do. No I know how to do the gift wrap.

Seen this in the ultimate fighter season 14 final preliminary fights, done by john albert, fucken sick stuff
Man I roll with big dudes at my gym and gift wrap guys all the time... I find it hard to believe rolling them to their belly to choke them would work. I’d rather not relinquish control to attempt something that could be muscled out of... don’t you find that to be a rather low percentage submission attempt and not worthy of sacrificing control? I mean to set up and trap the arm into that position takes experience and technique... once there I either go arm triangle or kimura grip to back take. What’s your thoughts good sir?
I think like most things, it’s either there or it’s not. If you feel like it’s there, it’s definitely dominating control to establish, but it’s all about reading and feeling the situation. I don’t feel like I give up a lot if I mistime it and don’t get the full exposure. Also, the resistance of them fighting the roll forward like that can influence the proper energy to pull the back take.
Can you add in the back Triangle in another video from the gift wrap?
Absolutely.
At about 4;45, can the bottom person do a heel hook from that position?
Not really either person is in any position to heel hook since there is no leg entanglement for positional control over the knee line
This is alot. But i i get it!!!!!
Cool. This seems very advanced for white belts. So this is from Side control?
You play this from t mount, i'll play this from side control but only if I can catch an arm transitioning using north south.
Jimmy Kimmel was great in this video!

As always.
I really never ever like to fall back down for an armbar. I feel it is way too dangerous and not that controlled. when you are on top, I feel you should try to stay on top as you are more mobile, ans can adjust your weight and pressure to raise or lower the intensity. if you fall back especially for bigger guys there is often a giant gap. or you also run into the problem where falling back you lose control of the arm briefly - it can injure your partner unintentionally.
instead as a general rule I would finish the armbar on top and make the opponent eat my weight and pressure
Gift wrap is one of these positions where you're like: on now I'm fucked!
Great video as always!
It truly is a horrible place to find yourself
