Wow..this is the $10000000 detail. I have watched and purchased countless of bjj videos since starting bjj in 2006 and this is the first time I watched an instructional which addressed the shoulder rising to start the hip escape and countering it with shoulder pressure. Thanks again and really appreciate your knowledge and contribution to this art .
Thank you so much! Yeah it’s crazy how much one small idea or detail can completely change a position. Hope the collar choke detail helps too, that was a major breakthrough for me
Jon, yours is truly *INSTRUCTIONAL CONTENT". You nail something that is difficult to hit in that you know not just what to show, but how to show it. Explanation..coaching..is often doing a good job of illustrating..with words, pictures, demonstration, etc. You paint good pictures, sir and I am thankful for the benefit of it!!
Oh I really appreciate it a lot. Hearing this kind of stuff really motivated me to keep working and seeing how far I can take the channel. Thanks so much!
Man, the content on this video is outstanding, thank you. Ideas for other videos - anything that helps against stronger, larger individuals. What a struggle! Help please.
A lot of times we tend to look for jiujitsu masters techniques like Gordon Ryan instructional or Jon Danaher. But there is a very special type of instructors that have the hability to break down techniques in the most effective way. This is one of those.
Absolutely love your in-depth explanation videos. Starting from "this is how you stay in this position" and then going to attack is incredibly helpful.
Lol definitely keep doing that! It’s great for the analytics. I can definitely cover the back soon, I want to go deep working it for a while to get it organized a bit more before dropping
Thank you very much for this ! Tried this on my coach the first time without really seeing the technique properly and got swept hard ...but this explanation helps alot going forward ..thank you ❤ in BJJ we trust ❤
Man, I love how your insights bring a high-level understanding to regular practitioners. Honestly, every time I learn a technique or fundamentals from you it makes sense. Thank you!
You have helped me tremendously. With a month in jiu jitsu, obviously a white belt, you have helped me big time. I have tapped out blue belts in the gym. Thank you. Much gratitude!
Man! Your content is really up there. Some of the best in the internet. I met you at Europeans last year. Now I'm wish I took a pic with you. I am going this 2024 again. If I see you I will not hesitate to ask for a pic.
I can relate to how you execute your moves and position due to being a taller/long BJJ practitioner. The details you use and teach make All the positions more comfortable and easier. Thank you
Literally by far the best Jiu Jitsu channel on UA-cam. Jon Thomas so clearly has the best content. Full of details, explanations, always to the point, always good camera work.
Wow wow wow! Thanks so much - this is the system I needed for mount at this point. I was getting so frustrated with losing mount and feeling like I had no plan. This video is SO helpful and detailed, much appreciated once again!
please, please don't stop doing such a gold content. Sooo many helpful details, for some people it's the only opportunity to learn, I mean exactly YOUR way to explain things. Awesome!
Dude, huge improvement slowing down a bit the pace of speech and editing. It makes the viewing much easier. I don’t know if you intended to do so, but tanks ! And thanks for the usual SUPER helpful content. You rule.
Thanks a lot buddy! Yeah I have definitely focused on it, noticed when I went back to listen to my self how fast I talk and additionally has multiple people tell me it was hard to follow. Also it is necessary to speak slower if I want to have sparring clips as b roll, so it just worked out. Happy you are noticing the difference
As usual, this is one of the best content available. Loved this video. I usually use the Ezekiel as a fake to move up to high mount but now I am going to try to finish it!
This system completely changed my mount control. I use to struggle with it a bit too vs stronger opponents, focusing on the chest pressure and these details massively changed it for me.
@@JonThomasBJJ Thanks. if I may ask, do you have any advise on how to deal with mount escape when the partner just lifts his legs up, which is forcing me being above him to the point when he can just backroll? I can use hooks under my oponnet's legs and drop my hips forward with same weight peple, but this one guy weights ~15kg more and is very flefixble. The only thing that worked on hiw in this situation is having at least one underhook under his armpit - that way he cannot actually lift me above with his legs as my underhook(s) force hiw to lift himself up as well. I was wondering maybe you have a better way to deal with it.
Thanks so much it means a lot! I have put tons of effort into the videos and my editing and production ability so I think it’s just gonna keep getting better
I'm a judoka who loves newaza and there is a lot of great insights in here, particularly on the ezekiel which I've been using for years but seems to have lost the last couples of years, and there are a few details you showed that should fix my problem (and I'm definitely going to try this ezekiel jujigatame transition, it looks really nice).
Awesome upload, I loved the details and the breakdown. Great editing (I know it is a strange thing to say, but so many videos gave terrible editing or really loud music, and you cannot see or hear anything). Truly excellent, Saved, Liked & Subscribed. I loved the detailed explanation
Content recommendation: What I would do with a video like this is release a second video right away that indicates how, in this example, the person on bottom can actually defend. As we all know Jiu-Jitsu is not one-sided so when you look at this particular video you would think once you get mount you will destroy everybody always, but the reality is people on the bottom have ways to effectively get away too. So just to optimize view count and keep videos succinct, it would be good to release them as two separate videos but release them in tandem so that a person can get the full picture from each position as attacker and defender. Then I suppose the only thing to address at that point is the “space between“, which is where most success in jiujitsu occurs. All the transition type stuff that exists between the two polar opposite positions. I guess most of that can be built into the two videos as mentioned above, but perhaps sometimes a 3rd video could be released that would specifically address the in-between type stuff. That'll cause some redundancy of content to the first two videos, but hey, if we all got everything we needed from a single video, there'd only be like, 12 videos on BJJ on UA-cam. :) So redundancy is a good thing.
Happy to hear it! Will be dropping new website soon with another big jiu jitsu competitor, will have tons of searchable videos and sparring footage to help in addition
I really like the detail of opening up the opposite side collar and scrapping the fingers with the wrist on the cross choke to make it easier to grip. I often hit this choke from a high Mount position and have never really done it with my torso parallel with my partners. Thanks for all of the content. Your stuff is great. Your channel is one that I suggest to new guys to our gym because of how detailed your explanations are.
Thank you so much I appreciate you pushing the new guys on to it! Yeah I use to always think you needed to be up to do it, but honestly most every time I see Roger do it, he is down low, i posture sometimes to finish it, it certain cases they block the version I showed posturing up and going direct into the collar from the front can be good too, but I think this method is best and safest to start with
Osss! The best part of the finger scrape is that even if the fingers remain inside the choking collar instead of being scraped off… it feels like you’re going to break fingers and you get a tap that way! Osss!
Awesome stuff Jon- this is what I needed to see. My mount game is weak and my opponent will always end up getting back to half guard. Will be working these techniques
Me and a buddy were just discussing how difficult it can be to obtain top control as the smaller guy. This will definitely help. Love the tips on the Ezekiel too. Sometimes I can catch an Americana grip when they start fighting your hands
Honestly me and all my students have gotten so much better thanks to your content, thank yo soo much from the bottom of my heart. ❤
Thank you for letting me know! It means a lot! Hope you guys continue to improve and enjoy the videos
Best channel for progressing me in Jiu Jitsu by far. You’re like a second coach on my off time explaining techniques, very thankful.
So happy to hear it man! That’s what I’m going for, want to be making a huge difference in people’s long term development
@@JonThomasBJJ question please can this be used in self-defense situations?

Making invisible Jiu jitsu visible.
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Over 10years on the mat, still learning new stuff. Very informative, thank you! great Job!
It never stops! I have been training 20 and I am learning tons everyday

Am a big fan of your communication style. So clear!
Great details. I haven’t caught Ezekiel in months, and the idea of hitting it from low mount clicks. Thanks!
Absolutely love your in-depth explanation videos. Starting from "this is how you stay in this position" and then going to attack is incredibly helpful.
You honestly make the best instructionals on UA-cam hands down. I wish your school was in NYC id love to join.
Thanks so much buddy! Always welcome to visit in Gothenburg sweden. Need to visit NYC again sometime soon
This is awesome, will use it next session
Hope it helps
Worked on this with Joe Thomas this morning! Thank you!
this is gold mate! i watched 2 times already.
could you make one of this full guide to back takes?
Lol definitely keep doing that! It’s great for the analytics. I can definitely cover the back soon, I want to go deep working it for a while to get it organized a bit more before dropping
Great video Jon. I love how you break down the small details. That makes a big difference. THANK YOU. OSSS!
Really appreciate it!
Love how you dive into the small details, and show the technique broken down, then kinda medium pace, then closer to full speed.
Great tips on the progression ezekiel > "elbow trap" > arm bar
Going to class tonight, I will be using these tips during live training. Thank you!
This is one of the best mount attacks instructionals I have seen. Well done!
Thank you very much for this ! Tried this on my coach the first time without really seeing the technique properly and got swept hard ...but this explanation helps alot going forward ..thank you ❤ in BJJ we trust ❤
Ahhh the distinctions between the dilemmas created from low mount vs high mount was SUPER helpful! And details about weight distribution. TYSM.
Man, I love how your insights bring a high-level understanding to regular practitioners. Honestly, every time I learn a technique or fundamentals from you it makes sense. Thank you!
From a fellow Ranga Jon. I love your straight to the point, no bullshit approach. Thank you from Australia, mate 👍
Thanks so much buddy! Yeah I think concise is the way to go. Get the main stuff in there that needs to be but keep it shorter and to the point

Yeah mount was always annoying for me too but after focusing on it for a while this system became so effective for me!
That video was superb. I've saved it in my watch later library
Nice! I want it to become a consistent guide for people to use!
Love the finger scrape and lapel setup details for the collar choke from low mount. Bro casually said “There’s basically no way to stop it” 😂❤❤😱💪🏼👏🏻👊🏼
please, please don't stop doing such a gold content. Sooo many helpful details, for some people it's the only opportunity to learn, I mean exactly YOUR way to explain things. Awesome!
I appreciate you going over the details of the fundamentals and not just creating content of new moves that look good for Hollywood.
Yeah the flashy stuff can be fun too but really this core stuff is so essential
I live in Korea. Your principles and techniques are really helpful to improve my jiujitsu. Thank you so much😊
Thanks so much! Hoping to visit next year!!
John this is the best explanation on the top cross collar choke I have ever seen. Thanks a lot brother
Love you're breakdown of Roger's cross collar from mount. Thank you so, so much🙏🏻 Always incredible content.

Yeah ezekiel is really a powerful submission I finish with it all the time!
I think the pencil concept is one I’ve been neglecting from the mount. Thanks Jon 🙏
Possibly one of your best videos ever.
Great work.
Thank you.
Subscribed! For some reason this content is really easy to remember and I can start doing some of these things in my rolls. Thanks!
Great content. Thanks. The camera work, editing and overall quality of the video is excellent. Much better than many paid for instructiionals.
Thanx Jon! Was struggling with the mount, but these ideas are a different approach to what I used to do. Feels much more secure and stable.
This system completely changed my mount control. I use to struggle with it a bit too vs stronger opponents, focusing on the chest pressure and these details massively changed it for me.
i love all your small details, they make so much friggin sense!
Yeah I try to take my time to find the small exact stuff that really makes the difference
Watching this helped me channel my inner Roger Gracie cross collar choking people from mount tonight. Thank you!
Chest to chest and lapel chokes' details I was missing out are very clearly explained. Thanks!

Excellent. All the little details that lead to success. Excellent instruction. 🙏🏾
Really helpful detail on getting the wrist under to peel the fingers, thanks!
Yeah I got that one from Roger, it has helped me immensely!
Absolutely the best BJJ content. I learn so much each video ❤
Love this channel! Your teaching style is easily digestible and super helpful.
Great work!
My coach advised me this channel, and its really such a well prepared material. I am admired with your work. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this. Great details on cross collar choke. I'm going to try to implement that in my mount attacks.
Yeah that series has made my collar choke from mount brutal!
Great video with awesome details, really liked the editing on this one too, all the different shots made it more entertaining to watch
Incredible details! Especially on the cross choke and using your chest/bodyweight to choke. Thanks Jon!
Hey John, thank you for all these great details on the positions. Very thorough and thoughtful explanations. Your material is awesome!!
great content. Im a 6 month white belt and I really appreciate your stuff. Thanks!
Your channel quickly became my favourite BJJ channel. I looved the side control escape full guide. It became useful immediately without even drilling.
Thanks so much it means a lot! I have put tons of effort into the videos and my editing and production ability so I think it’s just gonna keep getting better

Yeah that pull out the collar first trick massively improved my finish rate
Amazing step by step! Thank you for the knowledge!

great content and details. Cant wait to sharpen up my mount control and attacks. keep up the great work!
Happy to help! This system has helped me a lot
Your channel has the best Gi contents on UA-cam!
Excellent details. I’d never seen the shoulder under the chin to stop a kipping escape.
Yeah it’s a really useful detail for sure!

Thank you for sharing this mount system 🙏
Great job teaching mount control!

Amazing details. I already see many things I could be doing better from Mount. Thank you as always for the killer content!
Happy you found use in the details! Appreciate the comment!

Great tips, thank you very much!
Amazing instructional. Thank you. 💪

Yeah it’s great getting to put everything together in one big video like this!
Great content. You explain details and use different camera angles that really make the demonstration top quality.
Went to your page and the first two videos i watched are what exactly i was looking to improve on 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks much buddy really happy to hear it!
You are awesome! Thank you for sharing your content with everyone. Good stuff
I learned that slide over with the Ezekiel from a guy on BJJ Globetrotters. Changed my Ezekiel forever. Good detail.
Yeah it’s such a great detail completely changed mine as well!
Great vid. I love how you show how to set up different moves.
