Wow..this is the $10000000 detail. I have watched and purchased countless of bjj videos since starting bjj in 2006 and this is the first time I watched an instructional which addressed the shoulder rising to start the hip escape and countering it with shoulder pressure. Thanks again and really appreciate your knowledge and contribution to this art .

Jon, yours is truly *INSTRUCTIONAL CONTENT". You nail something that is difficult to hit in that you know not just what to show, but how to show it. Explanation..coaching..is often doing a good job of illustrating..with words, pictures, demonstration, etc. You paint good pictures, sir and I am thankful for the benefit of it!!

@@JonThomasBJJ Thanks. if I may ask, do you have any advise on how to deal with mount escape when the partner just lifts his legs up, which is forcing me being above him to the point when he can just backroll? I can use hooks under my oponnet's legs and drop my hips forward with same weight peple, but this one guy weights ~15kg more and is very flefixble. The only thing that worked on hiw in this situation is having at least one underhook under his armpit - that way he cannot actually lift me above with his legs as my underhook(s) force hiw to lift himself up as well. I was wondering maybe you have a better way to deal with it.

    Content recommendation:
What I would do with a video like this is release a second video right away that indicates how, in this example, the person on bottom can actually defend. As we all know Jiu-Jitsu is not one-sided so when you look at this particular video you would think once you get mount you will destroy everybody always, but the reality is people on the bottom have ways to effectively get away too.
So just to optimize view count and keep videos succinct, it would be good to release them as two separate videos but release them in tandem so that a person can get the full picture from each position as attacker and defender.
Then I suppose the only thing to address at that point is the “space between“, which is where most success in jiujitsu occurs. All the transition type stuff that exists between the two polar opposite positions. I guess most of that can be built into the two videos as mentioned above, but perhaps sometimes a 3rd video could be released that would specifically address the in-between type stuff. That'll cause some redundancy of content to the first two videos, but hey, if we all got everything we needed from a single video, there'd only be like, 12 videos on BJJ on UA-cam. :) So redundancy is a good thing.

I really like the detail of opening up the opposite side collar and scrapping the fingers with the wrist on the cross choke to make it easier to grip. I often hit this choke from a high Mount position and have never really done it with my torso parallel with my partners. Thanks for all of the content. Your stuff is great. Your channel is one that I suggest to new guys to our gym because of how detailed your explanations are.

Thank you so much I appreciate you pushing the new guys on to it! Yeah I use to always think you needed to be up to do it, but honestly most every time I see Roger do it, he is down low, i posture sometimes to finish it, it certain cases they block the version I showed posturing up and going direct into the collar from the front can be good too, but I think this method is best and safest to start with

  • @Slamminbassplayer

Osss! The best part of the finger scrape is that even if the fingers remain inside the choking collar instead of being scraped off… it feels like you’re going to break fingers and you get a tap that way! Osss!
