Also their concept that might be helpful here is fuzzy time, it's not precision of exactly when, but just a general memory of 'about when' and sequence of events relative to each other, I.e. Rusty venture was on TV sometime in the 70s, then went to college in the 80s, etc. It's like how young children conceive of timelines told to them by elders. ~ That being said there are a few precise dates given throughout the show's run and pointing those out might make for a good video one day.
I like to think that it takes place in the mid to late 2000s. Pop culture references and icons. A couple of clone-y bois throw the timeline all fucky though.
Didn't the Monarch take that Presidential time machine in season 1? The entire episode was dominated by testicular torsion, but I'm pretty sure they were fighting over the time machine, which only shows up again in season 7 to my knowledge. Maybe time travel shenanigans expedited certain events but delayed others in the timeline.
You know how Hank and action Man are in a coma dream together? I think it's like that, but with Doc Hammer and Jackson Publik. But instead of coma, it's like a shared subconscious (fever) dream world made from an amalgamation of all the music, movie comics and pop culture. Kind of like Carl Jung's "collective consciousness " but on a smaller scale of two people, then artistically projected out for the world to see And therefore this realm is completely literally timeless. Time has little meaning here.
That is an insanely cool idea; I originally thought that since Think Tank was in a coma, seemingly in the same hospital, that he may have linked them together; but your idea seems so much cooler!
I just rewatched the whole show and in season 1 Orpheus tells action man "2 years 7 months" and then in season 7 episode 3 I think when action man has that stroke he says calmly "a stroke." Because he called it 3ish years ago. That blew my mind on rewatch

Yea, I always thought it was a floating timeline, like The Simpsons.

this is an alternate universe what if things play out later with the internet and tv shows air earlier then they did hear
Exactly! Hit that point at 1:35
