Lived near the Gulf coast for the better part of 61 years, also lived in St. Louis during the Great flood of ‘93 and a flood in Greeley, CO in 2000, and surviving Hurricane Harvey in 2017, I can say with all certainty that those homes were not seriously flooded.

I'm impressed that the roofs are intact. Florida has some very strict building standards now-a-days. Those still homes will flood in down stairs storage.

I live in east GA. Prepared for high wind & rain.
Hurricane Opal took out our neighborhood just north of Atlanta. Katrina had us hunkered down in the back room of the barn in west GA. Not just coastal property gets damaged!

Okay let's be honest land speculators have over developed florida real estate. Therefore folks who dwell in flood plains, low areas, & places which would've been uninhabitable before lobbyists got the 100 year old historical flood plane survey changed so folks could get rich. Which leads to if you live near water in florida you will soon get flooded. With that in mind build a house off the ground...at least 10' in height from the bottom floor. Have a small motorized skiff to use if needed. If you can't afford the stilt house and skiff then opt for an in- land home. Choose wisely though. You may still get flooded due poor storm drainage, development in what was a marsh or low lying area, flood plane or river basin. Yet if your rich then usually the florida home is a 2nd....move back during hurrican season. You'll be safer but your vacation home might still be flooded...hey the sunshine and tropical breezes aren't without sacrifice...
    Cheers

Steinhatchee has not been hit with a hurricane in modern times. It is up the river. Mostly charter fishing there. Tournaments for charities each weekend. Family summer scalloping.

@@lakesidesusan6745 Modern times is the blink of an eye. 100 years for a planet is like dropping a single grain of sand out of a glass jar. This guys comment is correct most likely, without fact checking, and exists across the globe.
Where I have family in southern Missouri, the whole region is farmland which was originally a massive swamp of bottomland hardwood forest. A bunch of rich old white folks created the Little River Drainage District and drained 99.99% of it to create farmland over a century ago. Now the entire region is stuck living in tiny, dumpy cities surrounded by farmers crops and the habitat is destroyed completely. The small towns all flood now because there are no longer natural flood plains, since major riverways are controlled by humans nowadays and we build things in the name of profit, regardless of if it's a good idea. This is the world that we live in.

Do all the changes to our environment you want, the weather is not going to change. Earth goes through phases. Go back and look at history and you'll see phases of hurricanes come and go.
