You the only video I've seen doing it right. Most of them take the brake caliper off and disconnect tie rod end and pop the upper ball joint. They have no idea what they are doing
If you got heavy duty truck springs don’t do it ..It’s a pain in the ass put back on this way and you will need to loan a inner spring compressor and hopefully you already have a air compressor with ratchets
No tension on the springs? I have a 2002 Silverado and always have to use a spring compressor to release enough tension so that you can drop the lower control arm far enough to remove the spring. To reinstall the spring, you need the spring compressed so that the lower control arm can be lifted and the spring can fall into its position so that it can be compressed in place, with the lower control arm under the spring.
Just fyi, this process will NOT work on a 2000-2005 Astro/Safari van. That was the most dangerous one I've ever done, and I won't do it ever again. You MUST use a spring compressor set and it is NOT easy or SAFE.
Just did this to my tahoe limited same body style I left my shock in place I only unbolted the bottom since I couldn't get the top bolt off I plan on just cutting it off next week when I get new shocks
What was the part number for the springs? Discontinued with no available aftermarket products. So Far LMC is the only place that offers a coil for 1998 C1500
@@allenolvera4283 oh ok cool I just received my 3" drop springs today from summit I'm gonna use my stock shocks also. For some reason my factory springs that was cut by previous owner didn't have any isolators or dampers on them.
@@ryanwinkler4622 Those spring compressors are about as safe as having your spring cradled between the control arms and compressing them with your floor jack. I prefer the floor jack method.

I shop there dude I've been watching these people on UA-cam ... with all these f****** spring compressors in this one f***** ties it to the tractor with a chain .. Tri-C yank the spring out... I've been laughing for half an hour
The whole premise of it is to allow the spring to be able to be taken out my first the spring bolts, then any accessory that hold it in place. In this case that’s be other lower control arm. So after the control arm is out of the way, you’re able to slip the spring out. It work universal just check what’d stop you from accessing the spring and move from there.
Be cautious of your spring compression because a 3500 will have heavy duty springs and may not decompress completely, in that case be very careful removing them, springs+pressure=flight
Should count on replacing them when you do it like that. If you want to save them, or recently replaced the ball joints. A tried and true method is to loosen the nut and whack the SPINDLE where the ball joint goes. NOT the ball joint. I repeat DO NOT hit the ball joint. Whack the side of the spindle (knuckle 🙄🙄🙄or whatever you happen to call it) and the shock will cause the ball joint to drop right out. With the sledge hammer he had one crack at it would be enough. Grab yourself a 5lb (Harbor freight "Thor" hammer) it'll do the job for years on end.

If your just replacing your stock spring then no but if your putting a lowering spring then I would suggest an alignment
honestly you end up messing with the steering knuckle so an alignment would be a good idea

Did you go back with lowering springs or back to stock from lowering springs? If you went with lowering springs did you have to buy lowering shocks?
I already had cut stock springs and I replaced them with belltech drop springs.I reinstalled the same shocks in the video.

Those spring compressors are about as safe as having your spring cradled between the control arms and compressing them with your floor jack. I prefer the floor jack method.

you don't need a compressor, when you seperate the ball joint from the lower control arm you can remove it.
You’ll need one for putting it back in.

Damm for me it was b had to have some one lift the upper control in order for me to pull down the lower control arm to insert the spring
so do u have to jack the lower control backup to get the spring in there??
