bought these yesterday but its so weird, when i walk it feels fine, but when i am resting it hurts and feels too tight, hope it improves with wear because it did cost a small fortune
You said more than 275 won’t be the best option, and I agree! Personally I don’t do anything above that, but I have a concern, will the shoe sole turn flat if I squat with them? Or will it destroy the shoe sole technology or something? I want them to last at least a year and a half! 😢
Shouldn't if you're not going crazy heavy, but midsole compression is normal over time with loading. Tbh with you...most On shoes won't last a year and half even if you aren't squatting with them, lol. On has a lot of durability variable - some mayyyyy last that long but I think it's rare in most of their models
@@thatfitfriend Thanks for the transparency! I personally wouldn’t have a problem buying a pair once a year, especially if use them a lot! Great video 👏🏼
@@thatfitfriend I actually got the x3 model! Bought them last days of December and so far so good, comfy, pretty light weight and good while running too! I bought them and then watched reviews 🤣 but thankfully just good info about them. I’ll let you know in a few months! Thanks 👌🏼
The shoe collar cuts into my ankles as well. Hopefully it goes away as I break them in more but comparing it to the old Cloud X model, the collar is definitely cut higher.
You mentioned lateral movement in your review. Do you have a suggestion for good shoes for this type of training? I mainly do "basketball-like" training, with a lot of lateral movement and jumping. Thank you. Love your videos.
I just bought these after watching your previous cloud X review, glad you managed to put out this review pretty fast! I have a Primus Lite 2 for heavy squat and deadlift days and just bought these to wear for lighter hypertrophy/machine days and to do more cardio. Eying some TYRs to replace them. I agree that its not the best at a single thing but it does look good and functions “good enough” for multiple categories. I bought them TTS following the size guide, do you know how its sizing compares to ultra boosts for example (Should you buy Same size, how more narrow is it)? Thanks!
Agreed across the board. Not a great shot, but decent enough for certain contexts and for folks wanting a more casual model. Bummed they increased the price 😅 I’d size them the same!
Love the content. By the way is it really true to size? I’m a 10 in the cloud x2 but I tried the x3 in store just now and I was a 9.5. It’s funny because I’m also a 10.5 in the cloud 5 and an 11 in the cloud. Any reason for this?
Different last constructions. Plus, we have to factor that different foot anatomies will interpret sizes differently. I think this shoe fits true, but if you find that a half-size down fits you better, then I wouldn't be surprised. Sizing can be super individual and On likely uses different molds for each of their shoes which can create variance!
For someone with flat feet doing high intensity workouts that are a mix of exercises, what would you suggest instead? I’m looking for new shoes to use at Orange Theory Fitness
I mean…prob China or Vietnam? Most performance shoes are. US lacks manufacturers for that style of shoe. I’ve looked into it to make my own and I don’t see it as a bad (always) as it keeps cost down. To realistically build a sick performance shoe in the US it would be so crazy expensive (if possible) that I think folks would be mad about paying it
Awesome work putting together such a comprehensive review here but also on your website! I just tried these shoes on today, although it was one size up because that’s all they had at REI. I over-pronate and my right ankle has gotten slightly bigger than my left over time. Even though I wasn’t wearing my true size, after 3 minutes of wearing, I definitely started to feel the stiff collar digging into my right ankle! I’m curious if it ever truly breaks in at the collar because I was hoping to make this my primary walking shoe while traveling abroad. My plan was to have it double as my urban running option as well as a metcon here and there when I drop in at a local CrossFit box. Now I’m curious how it compares to the X 2 (and X) specifically regarding the collar 😀
It does a bit! If you get the proper size you’ll also have a better fit, too. X2 can be a little hit or miss, tbh, but worth trying imo! Thank you for checking out the content
I did try my size and it felt better although not perfect on my ankle. Just found out about strike movement through your blog so I’m also considering those now. Thank you 🙏🏽
I would not go for On shoes in your context, tbh. They're overrated and likely won't perform the best for you. My first tip would be going to a running store if possible and if have them help you find a shoe that matches your running mechanics. If you don't have a running store around, I'd say look into Altra shoes for a zero-drop option or models like the Reebok Floatride Energy 3/some HOKA models if you want neutral shoes with bit more drop!
I love your channel. Also i hate your channel. I have bought 2 Primus Lite. Metcon 8 and a UA pair all JUST because of you lmao. Thank you for your channel and your hard work man. I dont do lifts nor crossfit and the Metcon 8 and Primus have helped me with my knees for stability and back pain. I discovered that too much cushion was actually hurting me
I love it! That's what it's all about. Trial and error to figure out what works best for your context needs. Appreciate you rocking with the channel and supporting, amigo!
Really lovely content, especially the comparison with Cloud X. I have been wearing Cloud X for 2 years. The cushion break down after heavy usage and as daily driver. I was considering either Cloud X 3 or another same Cloud X especially since they have Cloud X for $110 right now. I will go with Cloud X again
@@thatfitfriend probably because I didn't read it was for mixed workouts haha. But there isn't enough responsiveness for a running shoe. Also not enough cushion to asborb shock and it feels extremely stiff. Idk I own a lot of ON and other running shoes, But I'd probably keep these for work and gym training. But for road running it's going to be a big no for me. I also tried this shoe on mixed terrain from concrete, asphalt and trails. Well that's my honest opinion from trying to shoe. Other than that the shoe looks great.

Eh, it could work, IMO, but their long-term durability and stability are meh and leave little to be desired.
