Reebok Nano were my preferred option for gym/cross training. But the new model really messed up the sizing. So now I’m back in the market for a different brand. Going to give these X3s a try! You are right, On is poor at making it clear what each of their shoes intended use is.
@thatfitfriend well these do NOT run true to size. I’m 9.5 in everything and had to go down to 8.5 for these. Haven’t yet worked out in them, but can already tell I’ll probably return them. Seems too tight but cant go any higher because theres too much room in the toe box and my heel moves too much. I feel like there’s not a company on earth that makes a decent shoe for functional fitness.
@@blaisebanko3487 hmm interesting. Wonder if this last is just no bueno for your foot anatomy. Adidas Dropset trainer 2, Reebok Nano X3, RAD ONE, TYR CXT 1 Trainer, all models that are stronger than On shoes for functional fitness, imo.
@@PipenFalzy durability ain’t there, tho, so I always rec the X 3. Plus, you can work out in them and they’re wider. Major Cushioning diff is pretty negligible, too 🤷🏼♂️
I tried the cloud 5 in the store but as I wanted to be more specific for gym training (squat, lunge, cardio, jump rope ...) I opted for the 3 but to my great despair, they hurt on the side of my ankle.😩 What other model would you suggest?
@@thatfitfriend Hey thank you for that fast reply! What do you think about the PUMA x LEMLEM NITRO™ Luxe ? I'm surprise about the inclination of the 2 models. I thought a training show need to be flat 🤔. But I love the colors of the LEMLEM 🤩.
I bought the x3 about 6 months ago. No running. Just daily use and gym. Initially they felt great. Because I have a low arch. And they weren’t hurting my feet like other shoes do. But I would say after about four months of wearing them my foot discomfort came back. Not sure if that’s just the insert that is wearing out. But that same level of comfort did not last the entire six months.
Thank you so much for review (s)...they are the best! Hoping you could suggest an On shoe (or other). I would like a shoe for gym use (cross training and light weights). I have a mild case of knee osteoarthritis and high arches so I would like a stable show with good impact absorption and cannot use a narrow shoe due to my high arches (need more fabric). Thanks!
So many New Yorkers wear On shoes that I am intrigued LOL. I was gonna go to the On flagship store earlier today but decided against it after reading so many negative reviews on google. Was able to see check these shoes at a shoe store on west 72nd St. They were okay. Lolz
@@thatfitfriend On shoes and hoka shoes so many New Yorkers are wearing for running LOL. I am okay with the training shoes you recommended - bought Nobull court trainer and Metcon 7. Also found and bought a metcon 4 & 6 from Ebay 🤓The Reebok nanos are too big for me.
Thanks for explaining the differences, but I have to disagree with your statement that the Cloud 5 runs narrow. I have medium (to wide?) feet, and the 5 fits me great and is the only sneaker I have (including Asics, etc.) that does not rub against my newly developing bunion. I would not say it runs narrow.
Either can work. Generally, the Cloud 5 will give you more all-day comfort, though. However, their durability can be so-so especially if you have wider feet and put a lot of stress into their forefoot upper. If you have narrow/medium-width foot, then you'll be fine in em!
Hi Jake, appreciate the detailed review here. I’m on the market for a new pair of shoes for both walking & lifting weights / some more casual HIIT. I was looking into the Cloud X 3, but have never owned On shoes and honestly think they are overhyped. I love my Clifton 8s - but i hear they are not good for working out. Comfort is something i’m really looking for as well (i have average feet size 9.5) Do you have any recommendations outside of On for this hybrid use case i’m looking for? Perhaps a different model Hoka? I’ve also heard UltraBoosts may be a good fit for this purpose and have owned them before and liked them.
The Cloud X 3 could work, but I'd suggest trying it on in-store if possible! Ultraboosts are okay if you're only going to do light strength work and have a primary cardio bias. The UA HOVR Rise models can be decent options here. You could also explore something like an Altra Solstice XT 2 if you wanted a zero-drop hybrid-esque training shoe.
Hi BenjMayne, I bought a pair of Clifton 8s and Altra Solstice XT2, the same size as you and for almost the same reason. From my experience, I must say that Hoka quality is much better than this Altra's model, or I just got a bad apple... I use the Clifton 8s as daily drivers and occasional runs. I use the Solstice XT2 for crossfit and after 2 months of training the grippier black parts on my altra solstice sole started ungluing/peeling from the white rubber. Furthermore toe protection also started ungluing from the sole. The blue colored stripe on the side (near the sole) started fading to white only after 4 months, but the same has happened to my black stripe on white sole on the Clifton 8s. Either way, I've glued the parts on my Altra and still use them for crossfit. Love the zero drop, toe space and are quite good when running for 3/4k. Even worked out much better than I expected for rope climbs (quite grippy). In the end I think I just got a pair from a bad batch where the glue didn't cure properly, but they work quite well for crossfit, so they'll do just fine for cross training.
Those rubber pads don't last long. I wore a pair when I went to Japan. Walked through a little downpour. Suddenly, those square pads started coming off.
I need a shoe for stability that protects my outer foot as I recover from jones fracture but also want it to be decent for the gym and best for all day comfort. Which on should I get?
I have owned a couple of pairs of On's. I'm not feeling the hype at all. The funky style makes me come back to take a look at new models but ultimately they all have the same problem - lack of durability, fit on the narrower side, flat/low cushioning and most have a sole that is a magnet for rocks and pebbles to get snagged in between the grooves. Hey On, have you ever walked on the ground?? These are bargain bin items, wouldn't pay more than $80-$100 for any pair.
Hey Jake new to the channel and new to the world of training shoes can you suggest some training shoes for mostly cardio but lifting aswell and that good for a wider foot
