We just bought a new 2024 Rav4 Hybrid limited after test driving both the Honda CRV Hybrid and our Toyota. I agree with you about the Honda being a bit more spacious, and some what smoother and pleanant drive. We have several reasons for our final happy choice. The Honda was considerably more costly to buy, and I asked myself if the extra expense was worth it? The Rav4 Hybrid also has a much better resale value so you will spend more and loose more when you sell or trade in. The difference I have found to be 5 to 8 thousand dollars total. The Honda does have a higher safety pick, but the Rav4 certainly is a well built safe car that should give years of good use, and then sell for more money in the end. I believe that it would be a good idea to include resale value of a car in it's total expense, that way you can make a better decision in your purchase.

I love my 2023 Corolla Cross Hybrid. So far, I've had no maintenance issues. Granted, I have less than 10,000 miles on it. MPG is between 40 and 46. Colder weather, the MPG is on the low end. Some things I wish were better. 1st and foremost, a spare tire. Toyota which generally does great with engineering and design picked the wheel well in the trunk for the Hybrid battery high voltage cables. Go figure! There is no rear leg room if the front seats are pushed all the way back. The passenger front seat can be tight since the glove compartment sticks out. Only one cup holder in the center console is usable since the storage box lid sticks out over the rear cup holder.
One other thing I wish all car makers would do with their safety features. There should be a warning light at least on the right side of the rear view mirror to work with the one on the passenger side view mirror to indicate a blind spot issues. One could be on the left side of the rear view mirror to work with the driver's side mirror as well. The reason for the right warning light on the rear view mirror is that turning to look out the passenger side view mirror takes your eyes away from looking forward at the road. It's less of an issue when looking out the driver's side view mirror.

I own a 2020 Honda CR-V, and I do love it. It's roomy for its size and feels solid. I know there are skeptics about the 1.5T engine and the CVT, but thus far, at 31K miles, it hasn't given me any problems. Plus, in my opinion, Honda actually make one of the better CVT's in the business. It's definitely not the problematic Jatco CVT that's been the long-time Achilles heel for Nissan.

Excellent Review of many SUV's. Is there any options without a Infotainment System? In my opinion the best Infotainment System is not to have one. I do not want this in my Automobile. I would like a Physical buttons, knobs, switches, a Key, Manual Parking Break, not an Electric Parking Break. Basic things like a Dipstick so I can check my Engine Oil and complete some Maintenance for example. The more bells and whistles that are on a Vehicle means the more there is to break. Also, a Fully Digital Instrument Panel is something that I can do without as well. I am not a fan of these bright Displays shinning in my face. If the Vehicle was lighter in Weight. 200HP and lower would be more than enough. One would have a better Power to Wight in the Vehicle did not weigh as much. A Manual Transmission option would be nice as well.

10 or 20 years ago I would have said buy Honda or Toyota. We used to be a Honda family. Not so much now. We compared the statistics and the numbers for a lot of cars. And we drove a lot of cars. We landed on a new Kia Sportage hybrid. It flat out had more for the money a quieter ride, better performance, more technology, more standard safety features etc. I was surprised! The Honda CRV hybrid was nice, but ridiculously more expensive for comparative features... Like five grand more! The Toyota Rav hybrid while probably the most reliable, was noisy, clunky, and had worse technology in it than cars from 5 years ago. When I say the Toyota hybrid was loud, I'm not kidding! An Edmonds reviewer in a head-to-head competition, put the Kia first. Honda and Toyota have great resale values and reputations, but I think they're getting lazy. Also, we had a rental Toyota Corolla cross last summer for a week. The interior of that car was crap.

I'm a bit surprised that there is no mention of Hyundai Kona. I follow CR and they are still testing the new redesign. I know past models were only fair so I hope the new Kona is better this time around. Kona too is a IIHS Top Pick Safety+ rated compact crossover. I'm a bit biased though, as I'm driving my second leased Kona (2022 Kona Limited). I may even get the 2024 Kona Limited EV this fall, depending on whether I can get the U.S. Tax credit (and from my State of NJ too) off the MSRP since I'd be leasing again. I know long-term ratings for Hyundai is not great, but as a 36-month lease, I've never had major issues. I just love all the bells and whistles on the Kona Limited. Also, I'm still looking at the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid XSE but finding it impossible to find one available for a test drive. Hopefully, Toyota Manufacturing ramps up more CC Hybrid productions this year as all the allocated hybrids coming into showrooms are pre-sold.

The CX-5 Select trim (the new base trim) is the value leader for the whole segment. Way, way nicer than the lower trims of the Rav4 and Forester.

Eh....the reviewer is an auto expert AND owns a Mazda...I think his insights are on point. I just test-drove the CX-50 back-to-back with the CR-V Hybrid. It is no contest at that price point...the winner on value and tech is the Honda. Enthusiasts might prefer the driving dynamics of Mazda, however and the CX-50 is actually a bit higher in terms of IIHS safety.
