Thank you so much for this video. I just got back to using DR after 3 year break and discovered that I have changed my keys while back to the S, Q, W, probably after watching your videos in the past!
"You can always just select this space right here and hit the backspace key again and it will get rid of that blank space for ya" WHAT. This man just changed my life.
I literally feel like my editing has been 3 times faster and it's 2 years later, so an amazing video thank you so much, literally feel like I'm gonna end up saving months of my life now.
Wow the track selector... Before this video, I was pasting on wherever it chose to paste, then moving to the track I want, then cutting it again and pasting it where I want... I think you just saved me some time in the future.
Nice, I didn't know about the J, K, L keys. One thing I've come across when using the delete key (ripple delete) is sometimes it will effect audio tracks or other video tracks. I find that locking the tracks makes it easier, at least for me, when I use the delete key (ripple delete). When the ripple delete does too much ripple deleting Ctrl-Z is my best friend.
I hear that! For me are usually turn off the auto track selectors on the audio tracks so I don’t ripple delete them an accident. But like in the track works just as well. I do love some Ctrl Z as well. 😜
The Q & W ripple delete left and right is brilliant ! One that I find useful is the N key for turning snapping off and on, the magnet, useful and annoying tool. Thank you for the tips Jason, much appreciated.

I use a gaming keypad (Razar Tartarus v2) with Studio One right now for some of the editing I do in it. Started working on setting it up with Resolve last week when I was working on a slide show for a memorial. Barely use it in any games, other than Elite Dangerous for some of the more tedious tasks, by using macros.
I have been using DaVinci Resolve for about 6 months. I have watched MANY of your videos from earlier to help my understanding of this HEAVY program. THIS IS THE VIDOE I NEED NOW!!! One question, how did you re-assign the "s" key, I know why you did it but I do not know HOW you did it. Thank you for your GREAT videos and time.
Awesome, glad my videos are helpful! To reassign keys, go to the Davinci Resolve menu at the top left of the screen, select keyboard preferences. Then you can search for the key you want to reassign.
Good stuff, I really like the idea of using 'S' , 'Q' and 'W' for cutting and ripple deleting. I tried changing those shortcuts and it didn't work. I figured out (and admit, should have known) that I had to then change the shortcuts that those keys were originally assigned to. After that all was good.

I'm in edit page and i positioned redbar on poit that i woud cut but when i press the button combination nothing is happening. Where am I doing wrong? thank you!
You can double check the keyboard shortcuts by going to the DaVinci Resolve menu at the top left, then go to Keyboard customization, then search for ripple delete and see if the shortcut is mapped properly.
@@JasonYadlovski Thank you for the answer. I understood why. My keyboard is different from Davinci Resolve. The mapping or layout is different. Because of that, I cannot do the key combination as set by Davinci Resolve. In fact, when I open the keyboard configuration and try the key combination, I don't see evidence of which key I pressed because the keyboard layout is different. I have to change the shortcut configuration.
great video the only problem i ran into is that is seems like every single key is already assigned to something else. I really want that Ripple delete Left shortcut but every key I tried assigning was already assigned and i don't want to assign a combination of keys for one action.

@@JasonYadlovski I found the solution for selecting and deleting all clips under the playhead on all tracks (not all clips in timeline). Mark select the clip and ripple cut. Hope it helps!
Jason - Something been puzzling me for some time. Why, in Fairlight, when I have 1 track with no effects on either the track or the bus, is the volume lower on the bus? The track is hitting red and the bus is in the yellow, for example. TIA
Hey Harold, I just tried that same thing and both meters match perfectly for me. Note that the color ranges are different between the bus and the track, but the actual dB level are the same....at least for me.
@@JasonYadlovski Looked at it again. It looks like the levels are the same but the track is hitting red while the bus is still yellow. Could this be something to do with the target loudness level? Why do you think the color ranges would be different?
I’m not sure why the colors would be different, at least the levels are the same.
Ive just recently made the move from sony vegas to davinci, does anyone know a good guide channel for that specific move??
I would just search it And I’m sure you’ll find something, but if you look at people like Casey Faris, Mr. Alex tech, my channel, and a lot of us other Davinci resolve UA-camrs, you’ll find everything you need to know. 😁👍 welcome to Resolve!
@@JasonYadlovski thank you so much for the reply, i subbed 😇❤️
Thanks for the sub, welcome to the community!
Is there any shorcut for media pool, effects tabs to open?
Not sure there might be. I just click it to open it.

How to slide after option +Y in mac
Click, hold and drag on the highlighted clips to move them down the timeline.
Do you have plans to cover Black Magic's speed editor?
No, I don't have the speed editor. I purchased Studio before they had that deal. Bummer I missed it! 😜
@@JasonYadlovski are you referring to the deal of studio + speed editor for $290? I know that's still active
Yeah, The speed editor deal. When I purchased Resolve, they didn’t have the speed editor yet.
How do assign them
Keyboard shortcuts? You can change them in the Keyboard Customization found in the DaVinci Resolve menu at the top left.
