WOW. I have never seen loofah soap. It makes me feel nostalgic. I think I just added a new project that I will be obsessed with making. Thanks for the inspiration here in 2021.
I just love these, mine actually turned out really nice, so glad I found this site with Sarah. they are awesome. Going to try some other things now that I have seen on your site. Thanks
Hats off to you! I've tried M&P and can not get the hang of it. I love the tip for keeping the loofah in place! I did a similar soap in HP and struggled with spacing my slices. I will give your method a try.
Sarah, thanks so much for this video!!! I have been looking for something fairly simple yet sophisticated, and this is it!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!! P.S. I've subscribed to your channel, keep up the great tutorials!!!
+Veronica Raines thank you for your kind words - means so much! Glad to hear, stay tuned because I will be uploading more videos to come - another very very soon! :)
Wow!! That is beautiful ❤️! And I agree the loof is good for your skin along with using this awesome soap. I'm a beginner and getting ready to start making my own soap as well. Just waiting on my Shea butter to get ship from Ghana.
Nice video, thank you. What dimension is your mold container? How much of the block of melt and pour soap did you use? From your other video it seemed to be a 2 pound block that you started with. Have you or anyone out there used turmeric or beet powder to color the soap? Thank you!
Hi Julie, thank you! This was quite some time ago so I no longer have that mold to measure, but there are many soap calculators out there to help you figure out how much soap you can fit in your molds. I know that Bramble Berry has a great one! As far as turmeric and beet root go, beet root unfortunately turns a very unappealing brown colour in soaps from my experience. Turmeric is a beautiful golden colour, however less is definitely more as it is known to stain. Hope that helps!
@@julielevin2505 of course, any time! I would try maddar root - I have had wonderful luck getting a wine red with that, as well as a red clay which is a more red / orangey-red!
Mine were soft after soaking for only a few minutes. It could be the loofah you are using. I have never soaked in oil and wouldn't recommend it as it will bring in too much oil to the soap base.
Depending on the M&P base you are using, it can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. When doing layers or embeds, I do not suggest using a fridge or freezer to cool your soap as the layers can separate!
Hi Victoria, I am not sure how dried lemon slices would work out the soap as I have never tried embedding them. My thoughts are that they may be too rough on the skin once the soap has hardened... Let me know how it goes if you try it out!
Hi where do you get the soap from to make these lovely soaps, would love to make some for my own use? Yours came out great and thanks for sharing. God bless!
I made just one to try it out myself first. When you're using the soap, the loofah is so hard and feels like rocks or glass shards on your skin. Is that normal? Thanks
Thank you dawn Amendola! It is actually a dollar store container in the Art section for holding your brushes and pencils - it has just the right height and width!

+Jane Farrer for my colorants I am using liquid colorants from an unknown brand, sorry. As for my loaf mold, I love to repurpose - this is a container from the Dollar Store that I have taken the lid off of. The sides are thin enough that they allow you to gently tug on them to release the soap. Hope that helps!
SARAH'S SOAPS thanks just starting out and I love your colors!! Where should I purchase the loofah like the one you have here? I’ve been with bramble berry for a while and I have a lot of stuff I have been afraid until seeing your videos! Thanks for the inspiration!! I will try not to bother you with more questions. Thanks for the quick response-deborah I found the answer- to where you get your loofah- you get it from eBay they have a lot there!! Lol
Hi Jessie, I like to soak my luffa in some water, then fully dry it and place it in my loaf un cut. This makes it much softer when you are cutting once your loaf is set, if you like!
de todos os videos de sabonete este foi o melhor .meu pai plantava esta esponja aki no brasil santa catarina florianopolisbjs obrigada por dividir esta sabedoria comigo
I spray alcohol because it removes the air bubbles that can appear on the surface of melt and pour soap. It also helps when you are trying to create layers; the alcohol helps the 2 layers adhere better.
The only rubbing alcohol that would be on it, is whatever that person put on it. Rubbing alcohol totally evaporates out of and off of anything Sarah is using. We melt and pour soap makers use it not only to sanitize things, rubbing alcohol also gets rid of any bubbles in our soap and also makes embeds and layers and such, stick to each other and the soap.
it will not cause harm to the human body! This i medical grade alcohol, which helps to set the soap. Since the temperature of the soap is high when you spray the alcohol on it, the alcohol vaporizes on contact.
Great question. My answer would simply be personal preference. I find it faster for myself to make one large loaf mold and then slice in to smaller pieces. I also do not mind having the square shapes - this way there are also parts of the soap that do not come in contact with the luffa, in case people do not want to exfoliate at that time.
+Jane Farrer, it all depends on the cost of the raw materials you are using. Add up the cost of the entire loaf you have made (cost of base, fragrance, colorants, loofah etc.) and then divide by the number of bars you get out of the loaf. That should give you a rough number of the cost of each bar!
Thank you! Try spraying some rubbing alcohol between each layer before pouring the next. You could also try scoring the bottom layer before pouring another layer on top

Hi there - How long do you soak loofah in water... I got mine soaking since yesterday and they still hard... Do you add any oils while soaking?

so beautiful and creative! what did you use as your mold?
+jbutle80 thank you! They are simply plastic containers - make sure they are thick but have some give so they can withstand the heat!
Are the loofa slices still damp when you put them in the mold?
No, they are fully dried when added. Hope that helps!
Would this be the same for making soap sponge? Many thanks😊
Hello Sarah, this is a really beautiful creation. Would you mind sharing the colors you used? Thanks in advance
Do you add fragrance oil or essential oils to your melt and pour?

Could you use a standard silicone loaf mold?
as long as you check how much heat it can handle, you can. I stick to molds that you can bake with so I know they will not melt!

What are the little chunks in the base bottom, just don't want to start until I find t his out.

Hi Joyce - the chunks are just some pieces of M&P soap that did not fully melt - they are completely harmless. Hope that helps!
Hi! I have a few long loofahs, do I need to cut it or can i just place it and to the same as your video?
Hi Jessie, I like to soak my luffa in some water, then fully dry it and place it in my loaf un cut. This makes it much softer when you are cutting once your loaf is set, if you like!
Do you wait for it to cool down and then add color or fragrance?
I add colour and fragrance oils when the soap base is still warm and liquid, but just be mindful of any flashpoints that your F/O may have!
Thanks,I loved it.
What kind of mold did you use in this bed. From which store did you buy the loofahs

Hello waths the name of this kind of spray ?? it help to fixe the soap paste ?
I am using 99% rubbing alcohol. It helps to remove bubbles after pouring the soap and also helps to adhere different layers together
Why do you spray alcohol, what's the purpose and what does it do?
I spray alcohol because it removes the air bubbles that can appear on the surface of melt and pour soap. It also helps when you are trying to create layers; the alcohol helps the 2 layers adhere better.
Thanks!

just a question . . .
what if people use this soap on their face, and there is rubbing alcohol on it. couldn’t that harm the human body?!
Is rubbing alcohol is the same as 70% alcohol?
They are not the same, but in a pinch I have found that 70% isopropyl alcohol may work! You just might need a few extra spritzes.
Thank you am going to try it.
+Cleo Johnson Good luck!!
Hi, what is theloofa, & where do we get it
A loofa is actually a dried vegetable that acts almost like a scrub or a sponge. They can easily be found on Ebay or Amazon.
Why don't u get silicone disk molds rather having them squared?
Great question. My answer would simply be personal preference. I find it faster for myself to make one large loaf mold and then slice in to smaller pieces. I also do not mind having the square shapes - this way there are also parts of the soap that do not come in contact with the luffa, in case people do not want to exfoliate at that time.
How much would a bar like this cost? thank u...
+Jane Farrer, it all depends on the cost of the raw materials you are using. Add up the cost of the entire loaf you have made (cost of base, fragrance, colorants, loofah etc.) and then divide by the number of bars you get out of the loaf. That should give you a rough number of the cost of each bar!
great vid, thanks for sharing !
how did you get your loofah so white?
Christine, some of my loofahs come in a lighter colour and then some come in a much darker cream colour. All depends on the batch I get in that order.
Great work! My layers split, how can I prevent that?
Thank you! Try spraying some rubbing alcohol between each layer before pouring the next. You could also try scoring the bottom layer before pouring another layer on top
