When I was younger, my mother would take all of the slivers of soap bars that were left over, and boil them down in a pot. Once the soaps melted she would form the liquid into bars, and we would have new soap!

Since having shoulder surgery 8 wks ago my sweet husband had to transport me to $tree so I could purchase 3 jars and 3tubular candles for my Bible study ladies. He asked me what I was going to make. When I said make candles, he could not stop laughing!😂 “ your going to buy candles to make candles? “. I proudly said “Yes I am”. I could just hear him now when I buy soap to make soap! Hahaha. Great idea!

This DIY soaper is going to give a few tips to anyone wanting to try this. 1) I would transfer ingredient list to the tag somewhere 2) please don’t use actual cinnamon… your recipients delicate areas will burn. 3) Using a course salt is a great exfoliant. 4) whatever appliances you use to cook be sure to clean extremely well before placing food in them again.
This is a fun project and might actually get you all interested into truly soaping and making bars gentle on skin

@@pamwood3956 in normal soap making where the lye hasn’t processed yet, no you cannot interchange between food usage and soap making. However, with this project the lye has already processed so it should be ok. However, if this becomes something you do often then I would dedicate your items to soap making and get new for food. Just using 1 or 2 shouldn’t be a problem and washing thoroughly along with sanitizing option on a dishwasher should be sufficient.

Not only did we use ivory soap flakes and water, but we also rolled them into balls and made “guest soaps“ and put them in a bowl on the back of the toilet for our guests. We also added some food grade food coloring (very little goes A LONG Way) if you find that you have not made it enough to make it as sick as you wanted because your crockpot is too small or you only chopped up three bars or whatever, you can always go back and add a second layer. Hi there this looks fun. I melt down bar soap sometimes with a little bit of water to make shower cream soap. I found that calendula petals work well because they don't rehydrate like other botanicals and get that brown color which is actually I think the flower going bad but I'm not sure.

Hi Kelly ~ I love this idea with the soap, I used to make soap with shea butter added but I have to say you have to watch with cinnamon as it can burn your skin. Ground almonds is a good exfoliant also~ Thanks so Much for sharing~Awesome idea~~I pray for Ray and your Family so all goes well~~ God Bless~ Terri

please don't put whole oatmeal in soap - it will be really abrasive. grind it down to a fine powder first.

@@zencat55 I’d be less worried about abrasion (since it’s porous, and will soften as it absorbs liquid) more concerned about it molding.
