I ran 2:26 last December in Valencia, and just ran the first 28km of Copenhagen together with Phily until she dropped me (haaard). I can confess the weather was scorching and Phily raced like an absolute professional. You've got so much more in the tank Phily!!
You are no longer a sub elite runner... YOU ARE THE "WORLD CLASS!", Not only your a world class, sub 2:30 marathoner, but you are also a youtuber... makes me wonder... what other elite runner has a such a amazing channel? YOU! GO PHILY!❤
That TV footage of you finishing the marathon is the stuff of dreams, especially with you wearing the England flag at the finish - what a moment!! And then... the clip of you hobbling around the day after is hilarious!! Great contrast. You rarely see so many sides of an elite athlete's life. Keep up the great work. And kudos to Daniel too - amazing stuff 👏
Thank you, you’ve hit the nail on the head, and selfishly I’m so happy I have these videos just to look back on in years to come, when the memories aren’t as rich.. a day to remember for sure 🥰
Not only are you a sub 2:30 marathoner, but you were also THE ONLY RUNNER IN THE TOP 20 TO NEGATIVE SPLIT!!! Absolutely incredible. I was going to say congrats at NOT10K yesterday but you looked very busy with microphone in hand so decided not to!!
When I watched your Copenhagen race, the most surprising thing was how smiley you were and how much you appeared to be enjoying it! It's not usual for us to see elite runners enjoying themselves like that!😆So I'm glad to hear how much extra energy you were feeling by interacting with the crowd and smiling & responding to them! Right on, girl! You can do anything! Olympics, here you come!🇬🇧
I was (and am) so emotionally invested in your success. You are simply flippin' fantastic! I just finished a half marathon today. Let's just say I was in a "pain cave." It was more like a "pain condo." But I had raised $1,300 for juvenile diabetes. So, I kept thinking about that and all the people in my life who stepped up with their support. I shifted my attention from my effort for myself to my effort running for all of them. So much love and respect, Phily. You're a good one.
I commented when I was watching the video how much you smiled when people shouted for you and how you were getting the crowd going. You looked like you were having a party out there. Such a great breakdown of the race and prep. So many emotions ❤ Can’t wait to see you achieve more and more Phily!
This had me in tears, 😢 and so interesting to hear about the psychology- I’ve always tried to not interact with crowd and ‘stay focused’ - absolutely no smiling! Might try your strategy next time!
Absolutely smashing! So proud. I’m a recreational runner from Philadelphia “Philly” PA. Have done 1/2 marathons at the most. You are inspirational for runners at every level! Crack on!🎉
Not for the first time I'm in tears watching a philly Bowden video. I loved this recap , it felt like we were right there with you on whole thing. Huge congratulations 🎉🎉👏
Wow you should be on cloud nine after that performance. I did notice your strength in the race video that you commented on in this post. Your form was perfect the entire race and you did look like you were floating over the roads. You put in the work and what a result! I have two young Granddaughters and I have been showing them your channel to show them they have no ceiling in life! You go girl go and love the grind. Remember this is not the end game, just the first step towards your Olympic goals.
Congrats on your achievement from Chicago! Looking forward to your next journey. I have to 100%! Agree with you on the fuel the crowd provides, especially at the tail end. I ran my first ever sub 90min half today and that last 5k was a struggle bus. But the crowd was so intense they were literally pulling me threw and screaming to push to get that sub 90. So for all peeps who spectate and cheer the runners, thank you 🎉!
Inspirational Philly. So, so, impressed. All them young ladies will see you and feel like they can take on the world, a true role model. I ran my first marathon in Manchester this year and was humbled by the distance. I only had 8 weeks preparation, realising I Didn't prepare for the race for my true potential. I got a time of 4:39 in the end; indeed a 🐌. However, I was humbled and realised that your ego needs to be put to one side and realise your chasing the distance, not necessarily always the time. A humbling moment I'll never forget. Cannot wait for the next one. Congratulations on your time and keep pushing yourself, your drive will help raise the bar to your true potential. Very well done!
Reading all these comments and seeing all of my sentiments conveyed already. You are just amazing, transparent and have such positive outlook. Although I’m much older and no where near an elite runner, I truly listen to, and implement your advice in my running. Thank you!❤
Inspirational performance for sure, but I took even more inspiration from the breakdown of how it was achieved! Special shout out for managing to turn the emotion of your relationship with a close relative into motivation. I discovered running after my Dad had passed away and often the elation of crossing the finish line is tempered by my sadness that he never got to see me run. I’d love to know more about how people turn that sadness into motivation like you have 👏 👏 👏
I’m so over the moon for you Philly! I can also do relate to the crowd thing-ran my first half last April-in the last 5k there was a couple young lad’s hanging over the barriers screaming their heads off with their arms outstretched for high fives-split second decision but I obliged, & ended up floating thru the last 5k. I know they weren’t there for me, but it felt like it. The energy I got from that point in the race was incredible. I also pulled something out of the bag that race that I didn’t think possible, & I think the crowd had a big part in that!!
You are such an inspiration! Not only to young girls, but to very old ones, like me! Great video - I was in tears when you talked about your grandfather. Thank you for letting us follow your journey and for sharing your training and tips!
You wear your heart on your sleeve Philly, you show massive strength and determination but vulnerability and humility in equal measure but you are an elite athlete and I hope upon hope you become an olympian👍
You have grown so much as a person and athlete in the last year. Be prowd of it and stay in love with what you do! And stay on cloud9 as long as you need 🙂
I'm so happy for you. You really are an inspiration. And not just for the younger girls. I'm about 10yrs older than you, and you're a massive inspiration to me too. I'm just getting back into running after a while out, and I think your videos have a lot to do with it! Thank you, and WELL DONE 💪🏃♀️✨✌️
So inspiring, and so informative...this video is an absolute gold mine on many levels. Will rewatch as i keep on with training, this one is going into the permanent save folder. Go on Phily!!
I'm almost weirded out by how proud I am of you, considering we've not met... but f*ck that!! I think about you and your positive approach to training when I'm pushing myself, and in general your videos help me remember that a positive mental state when things are tough is actually impactful on my performance. I'm sick right now and yesterday was lamenting my loss of fitness... I snapped myself out of it by remembering I can only control the controllables. Long story short, you're SO inspiring and I'm very glad you share it with us!!
Thanks for the inspiration. I am doing my first 100k gravel cycle race in September (only ever having done less than 50k before this year), and will remember your tapering and mental supercharge methods during the tough hills and last k's.
Congrats once again Phily! Great to hear your thoughts on the race and your process; emotional stuff! Your last video inspired me to test out Marathon distance yesterday, which was admittedly daft considering I've only ran 10km distance recently and never ran further than 30km ever. Still, got through it in 4h18mins though the last 7 miles were a mental challenge. I can relate to the stairs situation today but I enjoyed the challenge so much I've decided to enter Chelmsford Marathon in October. p.s I agree with the cross training; I do Triathlon and the bike / swim really help.
Phily, you're an absolute force. Your videos make me a better runner , and a better person. Digging deep is often the key to in that final step, at so many points in life.🤜🤛
This is so amazing so great to hear all of the prep and its great to hear that everything doesnt have to go perfect in the buildup for you to have an amazing day! Thrilled to be a little part of the journey as a new Patron too love the content and the honesty you have here! Hopefully you get to do a race over here in the states as well!
First of all, you're an amazing runner and will only get stronger, secondly your humble, and that's the biggest appeal for people to watch this channel. Congratulations well deserved.
I only came across you last week (and have since heard you mentioned on The Running Channel podcast, but that is hands down the BEST RUNNING VIDEO I’ve ever watched on UA-cam; an absolute joy, and CONGRATULATIONS on your run in Copenhagen; fingers crossed you make the olympics. I’m going to show that to my daughter as inspiration to help her believe she can do anything she puts her mind to. Just fantastic … thank you! I’ll be doing my first ever marathon later this year in Valencia and I’ll be sure to watch all your videos between now and then for tips and inspiration. Go Philip
Can’t wait to watch your progress from here forward …love watching your videos, I’m a 1:22 1/2 marathon runner who is still working out the marathon distance after running three of them, so all this advice is so helpful thank you and again, brilliant running 👏🏻👏🏻
You have given me so much motivation to smash my training and nutrition, been struggling with my ED lately but you have given me the push to get back on track!
Congratulations! This video is the most inspiring, informative and fun description of running a marathon that I have ever seen. This should be required watching for both new marathoners as well as the seasoned ones wondering how they can improve. Thanks you!!
thank you for sharing such a detailed recap of the race and mental strategy! i've cheered at marathons but never run one, and it's such a special dynamic because both groups are getting hyped by the other. can't wait for merch :)
Impressive with the negative splits, especially since it got hotter and hotter. I ran my first marathon that day and really loved it, the crowd was amazing. Finishing in 3:49:33, goal was sub 4.
Congratulations on your amazing time, watched your channel since the start, always great to see someone realise their potential and dreams, think of your grandad giving a boost was really nice🙂was he a runner in his youth ?
Philly you could consider a Stryd footpod. It works with your coros 2 and helps it report a more accurate pace when GPS is dodgy. Maybe another 1% thing
Really inspirational! Makes me think I can run my sub 4h marathon in October :). Like your preparation, I'm thinking about the nail polish thing, as a man...
Wow what a brilliant recap video! Just wonder what time you could achieve Phily in cool weather conditions and with pacing right through to the finish? Would love to see this.
Wonderful video, useful and motivating for runners of all standards including 2h6m half marathon perambulators like me, thank you and congratulations again.
Did you try taking some baking soda to help prevent the DOMS after the race? I do sometimes but it's hard to tell if it works How low do you want your resting HR to return to before running again? I love this video . . . inspiring to get back out there and hit the trail after 4 months of so much rain all my trails were unusable so I was starting to think of quitting after 4 months off. I'm rooting for you to beat Molly Siedels time . . . If you both race I will be rooting for you because you are inspiring and you're giving back to your fans with this channel. I hope this channel supports you enough to get you to where you want to go.
Hey philly, how did you feel?? I know you are relatively new to this distance and i was wondering what to expect moving forward?? You think there is room for improvement?? You have so many years left at this distance and your result in Copenhagen was amazing im super excited for the potential you have.

wow! that is also a fast time!
If your granddad is even half as proud as the rest of us, he'd be a very happy man indeed. Really well done!
You are no longer a sub elite runner... YOU ARE THE "WORLD CLASS!", Not only your a world class, sub 2:30 marathoner, but you are also a youtuber... makes me wonder... what other elite runner has a such a amazing channel? YOU! GO PHILY!❤
The only other one close to this level of UA-cam greatness is Stephen Scullion
@@nickmoore5105 I wanted to also mention Scullion, too, I'm glad I'm not alone.
That TV footage of you finishing the marathon is the stuff of dreams, especially with you wearing the England flag at the finish - what a moment!! Absolutely incredible. I was going to say congrats at NOT10K yesterday but you looked very busy with microphone in hand so decided not to!!
Figuring out how powerful smiling when it gets tough is was a massive game changer for me too. It's unbelievable what it does
I tried smiling when I was in pain at the 3.5 km mark at parkrun and dammit it worked. Great advice. We’ll done on your marathon. You are a champion 🎉
I would love to listen to you and your coach talking about running, your progress and just chatting and having fun.
Yeah, I was thinking the same, I be really good to hear from Philly’s coach if she would be willing to be on video.
Beat the boys. Love it. As a dad of 3 girls, Phily you're such an inspiration!
This is a lovely sentiment, much better put than the comment further down about this 🤔
I was (and am) so emotionally invested in your success. You are simply flippin' fantastic! I just finished a half marathon today. Let's just say I was in a "pain cave." Being in the public eye like this and showing up with all the hopes and expectations-yeah, Cloud 9 is well deserved/earned. Congratulations!
I commented when I was watching the video how much you smiled when people shouted for you and how you were getting the crowd going. You looked like you were having a party out there. Such a great breakdown of the race and prep. So many emotions ❤ Can’t wait to see you achieve more and more Phily!

I did my first half marathon in Copenhagen in 2019 and yeah, the crowd were amazing. Got such a buzz from being cheered on by them.
You're welcome back to Copenhagen next year Ms. Bowden and I'll cheer the loudest at the 32 km mark!
Your an inspiration Phily! Keep it coming. The World is behind you ❤.
Very inspiring. I ran in CPH as well - 2.34 and PB’ed 5 mins. This video made me even more excited for my next marathon 👍
Absolutely smashing! So proud. I’m a recreational runner from Philadelphia “Philly” PA. Have done 1/2 marathons at the most. You are inspirational for runners at every level! Crack on!🎉

OMG - full body tingles/ goosebumps at 18:21 when you talked about the smiling thing!! Incredible
That’s how I felt during the thing!!
I got emotional so many times during that video... Every "GOOOO PHILY" was the purest form of love.
WHAT A GREAT VIDEO YOUr Passion and energy are just oozing out of you. Well done on an awesome marathon.
Congrats on your achievement from Chicago! Looking forward to your next journey.

Tear in my eye as you crossed the line-so much hard work plus a lot of talent all coming together. Just love it.

If smiling is good enough for Kipchoge I think we all should be doing it 😀
I'm not very good at drawing energy from the crowd. I'm too busy dying inside my pain palace to perceive much of the outside world.
I'm almost weirded out by how proud I am of you, considering we've not met... but f*ck that!! A joy to watch your journey. Well done. I’m sure we will be seeing more of you on MSM going forward.
I love your videos! Thanks! I love to hear your boyfriend cheering for you! He has a very enthusiastic voice, and it is so touching.

Thanks for the breakdown! I have a marathon coming up this Sunday and gonna try to smile as much as I can !!

Congratulations! This video is the most inspiring, informative and fun description of running a marathon that I have ever seen. This should be required watching for both new marathoners as well as the seasoned ones wondering how they can improve. Thanks you!!
Love the grind. Love your love for the sport. Female athletes are such exciting inspiring badasses.
thank you for sharing such a detailed recap of the race and mental strategy! i've cheered at marathons but never run one, and it's such a special dynamic because both groups are getting hyped by the other. can't wait for merch :)
it's funny, smiling helped me get through a half marathon as well! it made such a BIG difference
Wonderful watching your journey Phily. You truly are an Inspiration .
Hope " Love The Grind " merch has running apparel ?
Have really enjoyed watching your journey this far. You are an inspiration!

Well done Philly! 2.29 is amazing. You can still reach the goal of 2.28
Congrats Phily, Olympic dream here we come
Awesome! Do you have a video of your strength and conditioning routine?
Great performance! I'm glad you like my photo of you from the race for the thumbnail. 🤘🏁
Awesome photo! Thank you for capturing it!!
Interesting cup in the background 😂… great running congratulations 🎉
Noticed that too...
Yup
So proud of you, Phily! You are incredible. 💕
Congrats Phily! Also I love recaps like these, I could watch these all day
Philly you could consider a Stryd footpod. It works with your coros 2 and helps it report a more accurate pace when GPS is dodgy. Maybe another 1% thing
Really inspirational! Makes me think I can run my sub 4h marathon in October :). Like your preparation, I'm thinking about the nail polish thing, as a man...
You can!!
Watching from 🇿🇦 ...the best video from a professional athlete by far 🙌🏼
Top Notch!!!! Thanks for sharing your journey!!! Phenomenal ❤️
Thank you - wonderful to see your brilliant progress.
I just bought flights to watch and cheer the Berlin Marathon because of this! Great work on your race 👏
Love this! 🔥
Phily, you are such a HUGE inspiration!! Keep livin' the dream!!😊
Big congratulation to you , and to Daniel!
Congratulations!! What’s your diet plan?
Great work! So exciting to see it all come together so we’ll!!
Love it! Matching 💅 nails to the fuelcells!
Did you try taking some baking soda to help prevent the DOMS after the race? I do sometimes but it's hard to tell if it works
How low do you want your resting HR to return to before running again?
I love this video . . . inspiring to get back out there and hit the trail after 4 months of so much rain all my trails were unusable so I was starting to think of quitting after 4 months off.
I'm rooting for you to beat Molly Siedels time . . . If you both race I will be rooting for you because you are inspiring and you're giving back to your fans with this channel. I hope this channel supports you enough to get you to where you want to go.
Rather get sick in the first month of the training block instead of 5 days before the race like I did for NYC22
Aw Phily. Your grandad would be so so proud of you❤
Loved watching your Marathon. Very inspiring 😊🏃♀️
WOOO HOOOOO! Great prep! Great Race Day execution! Great recap! #awesome
Hey philly, how did you feel?? I know you are relatively new to this distance and i was wondering what to expect moving forward?? You think there is room for improvement?? You have so many years left at this distance and your result in Copenhagen was amazing im super excited for the potential you have.
What a tremendous achievement! So much respect!
Absolutely amazing!!!
Good storytime with Phliy!
Enjoy it up there on cloud 9, you have earned it. 🥳💕
Absolutely phenomenal racing! Can't wait to see what's next for you! 😄
Also... that mug.. 😂
It’s a plant pot… I have my New Balance team mates to thank for it!
We are all so proud of you Phily ❤
I have a home gym that needs some decorations on the wall so I am for sure getting a poster!
Spectacular achievement, congratulations!
I bloody love you Philly
Sub 2:30 Marathon is really excellent
