I am so happy that your trip to Paris was so dreamy!! You look fantastic - your red sweater and red lip are perfection!
Diptyque is absolutely is in the top three of my favorite houses. I am forever trying to find the scent that was one of their holiday candles about 10 years ago and it was heavenly and I don’t remember the name but it introduced me to Diptyque and I’ve been in love ever since. I wear Philosykos in the summer and also adore tam doa and Eau Duelle. Violette is such lovely scent that brings to mind innocence and romance.
Btw- I heard someone talk about ‘proper’ candle burning and apparently you should only burn it until the top part of the candle becomes melted, then blow it out and the scent remains from them melted wax. I never knew I was wasting so much of my beloved candles by burning them for too long.
    Welcome Home! 💕

Diptyque!!! I love this house. It’s my top 5 houses where each house is my fav for a different reason. Diptyque’s first LA shop is up the street from my office. The store manager was so nice to me. I was buying presents, nothing for myself. She sent me away with all kinds of samples, body products and a candle. Needless to say, I went in 3 or 4 times a year for gifts. Then I bought their Eau Rose because the Jo Malone concoction was so expensive and lasted all of 30 minutes. And my recent perfume obsession has taken me there for myself. I have their Vety Erik, Eau Capital, Tam Dao, Oud Palao, and the Olene EDT. I’m happy you have it. The manager gave me a Fleu de Peau and I want a full bottle. And I have a couple of samples of the the Minthe…I love it. And Benjoin Boheme is the most gorgeous perfume … I’ll get it one day. They have some perfumes out which I didn’t care for…wasn’t impressed by at all, but they all tell a s Tory. And I think the ink drawings are perfect…wearing the perfume fills in the colors…the feelings. It’s just a beautiful house.
I know what you mean about retail people trying to assess a customer’s means and ignoring or even dissing others. I never do that. Never never. Customer service is very important. I was turned off of Le Labo because the shop clerks were so snobby. I know I have to get over that because I’m probably missing out on something…but damn. But oh well.
    PS I want a violet candle!❤️❤️❤️

thanks so much for sharing your trip to paris-it sounds like you had an amazing time! i feel the same way about candles, diptyque always seemed too expensive, but i bought a slightly used one on mercari (benjoin) and later received one for xmas one year (cuir.) they are outstanding quality. i used the benjoin to hold my 10ml/purse sprays once i finished it. the violette sounds amazing. as for the perfume, i have tried several and i own eau duelle and benjoin boheme. i also really like fleur de peau and volutes but only have samples. the ones i am most excited to try are olene (thanks for the review) and orpheon. i visited the diptyque shop in SF and had a similar experience-super helpful and kind people. your mention of wisteria in olene reminds me-i once had this wisteria soap that was gorgeous and i have never found anything comparable, but i keep searching. ;) even if olene is not heavy on the wisteria, that is one thing that intrigues me about it.

I forgot to leave a comment last time I watched this (it was around midnght and my husband was trying to sleep next to me and apparently my ferocious, rapid typing irritates him and hinders the big bear from enjoying a blissful slumber). So, I'll quickly leave my feedback here, now in daylight hours Hahaa :D: Firstly, you looked lovely in this video, so bright and healthy. Red lips, short grey hair-- so chic. Secondly, I also make a point of visiting fragrance boutiques when I'm in foreign cities. (Tokyo was my favourite experience so far). Finding out what genre of fragrance is popular around the world is one of my favourite lines of enquiry. I've watched countless Korean and Japanese fragrance collection videos on UA-cam and they are all, quite literally, the EXACT same. Every time. I can just look at a thumbnail now and see; Diptyque, Jo Malone, Santa Maria Novella, Byredo, Le Labo and a couple of others. Not just the same brands over and over, but the same fragrances! I'm finding it tedious and strange now. I understand the fragrance culture well, as I've been numerous times to Japan and also read a lot, but the question in my mind is: don't niche houses have a presence in Japan and Seoul? Why are these brands referred to over and over at the expense of others? I'm left to assume the niche houses are just not available in Japan and Korea or if they are, they don't care enough to seek them out. Fascinating! Candles are another expensive weakness of mine. Thank you for showing us what you bought and why. I'm looking forward to watching you talk about your observations, share your travel stories and talk about what you bought and what you opted not to etc. Such a lovely channel!

The picture you paint with the husband had me in stitches! Thank you also for the kind compliments… so nice to read. I too am fascinated by what gets covered (and covered, and covered) and what gets virtually ignored (might be pointing out the obvious here but I suspect some of it is driven by companies paying these folks and/or people wanting to talk about names/themes/words that are sure to get tons of views). I’m a bit of a weird bird so tend to like things overlooked or off the beaten path but then again I love some greatest hits, too! Would love to know, what are some houses, notes, or themes you would love to hear more about? Have a great weekend!

@@savorsalvagescent2300 I get a kick out of personalities. I love to hear you talk about whatever you find and love and whatever you find and DON'T love. I appreciate a strong sense of aesthetics, personal idiosyncracies and quirks are what cause me to swoon and support certain channels over others.I'm impossible to offend. I find people who have different taste to mine most engaging if their language is clever, colourful and persuasive-- even if they positively savage the things that I really like! As long as they make me laugh my head off, then I'm there for it! I like people not afraid to speak openly and bravely, explore nuance and go against the trends and 'mobthink'. I'm not too down with homogeny. I'm attracted to people with integrity and conviction and intellectual curiosity.
I love your channel! Stories and anecotes which explain what informs your taste and the general direction of your olfactory peregrinations is what I'm here for. You're kind, smart, warm and seem to be a very balanced and well integrated personality which is kind of difficult to find especially in realm of fragrance channels where younger hustling personalities seem to dominate. No offense intended towards them, it's just that they offer me little. Other people's tastes fascinate me.

@@savorsalvagescent2300 PS= I forgot to respond to the great observation about overlooked houses compared to grossly overexposed houses: Have you ever heard ANYBODY on UA-cam mention 'CB I Hate Pefume'? Christian Brosius is the definition of eccentric and completely devoted niche perfumer. There are documentaries about him which the BBC made years ago. I've been to his atelier in Brooklyn and spoken to him blah blah. But for some reason, his house and himself are persona non grata in the land of frag comm. I find this faaaaaascinating. Why is he completely ignored? Perhaps you could do a video on the mysteries of the totally overlooked but long established niche houses and try to find out why nobody cares about them. Carthusia is another one. Not one mention in any UA-cam video, except for maybe a few really small, half-arsed channels from a decade ago ;). Weird huh?

@@savorsalvagescent2300 YES, exactly!!! Is it his personality that people find intensely off-putting? What is it?! If I had the guts I'd ask him directly why he thinks he has been ignored, not even made reference to in videos online, or even in comment sections. On the flip side of the coin: Prim Lomros (Prin, Prissana, Strangers etc etc) and Victor Wong at Zoologist, now THAT'S a combined masterclass on how to launch a charm offensive and put every sad little UA-camr into your pocket and effectively ring fence your brand from any harsh critisicm. Just make them feel special with hand written notes, free bottles of fragrance to review...anything to make them feel noticed 'in the industry' and special and the game is over: they're yours, the sock is snugly in their mouths and they'll keep any criticism to themselves, just gush over the one or two fragrances they can bear/like. Something's not connected 'up top' if you know what I mean. I feel embarrassed for people like that. The companies that aren't so shrewd and calculated and don't make it a strategy to shmooze the 'influencers' instead get carelessly snide commentary in reviews, all without compunction (because of the reviewer's detachment from the humans behind the brand, of having no direct emotional contact with the brand owner/PR manager).
I'm tired of this Prin Lomros worship too, as if the man can do no wrong. I enjoy intelligent, thoughful reviews, not chitchat clouded by PR fluff and self-consciousness. Dig a little and you find out what's behind this empty-headed, effusive continual praise. What's unsettling to me is that a house like Zoologist, which is agitating the industry via really controversial creativity (which is to be celebrated) and deliberately launching experimental polarising fragrances suddenly get nothing but glowing reviews or at at the very worst carefully worded and lukewarm reviews?! Does that gentle handling make any sense to any intelliectually discerning and psychologically savvy adult? These content creators are terrified to say what they really think of certain brands, unable to plug in their critical faculties, just at the mercy of their insecurity and lack of character: they want free stuff, validation from the industry and praise from all quarters. Where's the integrity in these people?! These fragrance channel kids are shamefully easy to 'buy' and so I take their, ahem, "honesty" with a rather large pinch of Pink Himalayan Salt. Woah, I give this peppery reply a rating of 3.2 chillis out of five. ;) Have you ever made a Zoologist fragrance video? Perhaps I'd be better off leaving a comment there. Spicy enchalada! ;)

Great review! Thank you for sharing your wonderful Diptyque experience. You are so correct ~ Diptyque is far beyond its value and stylish. Diptyque is a daily luxury. Benjoin Bohème is my fall/winter signature scent. Essences Insensées Tiare is my spring/summer signature scent. Eau Capital is not very rosey and leans masculine to me, also. But, Eau Rose is a clear smooth rose.
Regarding the candles, just. close your eyes and "spend the real money". They are truly tremendous. They never stop giving. I house my makeup brushes, eyeliners, mascaras, etc. in the glass containers once the candles burn down.
The body products are high quality, concentrated and long lasting! The Do Son Shower Oil is a major treat. It penetrates your skin vs. sitting on top of your skin. Of course, top it with the Do Son fragrance. The Fleur de Peau Body Cream topped with the Fleur de Peau parfum leaves you feeling as if you are floating on an Iris cloud.
I am so fortunate to have a Diptique boutique in my home town. I'm on my way to pick up the violette candle!

I've worked in high end retail for many years in different countries, and here in the UK the wealthiest folks look like-- forgive me-- slobs. Quirky, eccentric, understated scruffpots. Then they pull out those cards you learn to recognise at a glance and everything falls into place. Flashy 'new money' folks are an entirely different proposition in every respect. Remember how in the 1980s it would be impressive for people to pay with wads of cash? That is such bad taste these days, isn't it? Nobody is impressed by someone flashing their cash like that. It makes everybody look like they've either, 1) recently sold their car to a private buyer, 2) they work in trade or a market stall or 2) they're a criminal of some kind. ;D Retail stories are always fun. I've go so many, maybe I'll post some here and there in your comment sections for your amusement, as payment in kind for the great little stories you post for US all to enjoy whilst having a cup of coffee :D. Bye!! PS= YEEEEESSSS! More juicy stories about which stores were more gracious and kind than others. I suspected Guerlain were a little chilly even before I watched the video. I've heard the same thing from numerous reputable sources.

Dying over this commentary! “It’s funny ‘cause it’s true.”
I work in fundraising so often I am in the company of people whose families have much more money than mine did growing up. I think this varies a bit depending on where one is from, but I find that usually, people with older money often have less to prove/less flash but then again they often have more understated or subtle, but to me very very clear codes for “I have money.” Perhaps a couple ladies who waited on me in the Champs Elysées shops could tell I wasn’t one of those folks (but I certainly did my part for the economy that day, ha). I think the flashy stuff can get tacky. I promise I’m not feeling victim here because all in all my luck usually outweighs the random slight but I think I was surprised because the first time I visited that area (Guerlain specifically) I was treated so well. And I cannot overstate how well in general the French treat me and the wonderful experience I had in Parle Moi, Dyptique, and Panier des Sens!

@@savorsalvagescent2300 What a great comment! Thank you! The 'codes' in the British class system are just off the charts; the littlest details give away sooooo much. Unless you're British and rather urbane and erudite, most of it will soar over your head. I find it hilarious as a foreigner. One of the papers recently printed a guide to 'U' and 'Non U' (U is upper-cass). it was hysterically funny because of course it was completely accurate. They also printed a phonetic speech guide to 'Mitford speak', or Received Pronunciation (which nobody really speaks in anymore, it's a dead form of elocution and not even the privately educated upper class speak in RP, well perhaps you could sniff out some elderly relatives around the UK like a wonderful old dowager or Duchess but that's about it, haa). Anyhow, I'll leave you with the RP way to pronounce 'bungalow', as in 'we're staying in a quaint little bungalow by the seaside this weekend': "Barn-glare". HAHAAHAH!

So good to hear about your experiences in Paris & I would have to agree with you some places do look down their nose at you but I have to say I went to Louis Vuitton in 2010 and had a wonderful experience on the Champs Elysee & I definitely don't wear designer clothes but I can relate to your experience as I've also had them!
Oh YES! I own and love diptyque myself & it totally is underrated for sure! I have l'ombre, eau capitale the room scent eau plurielle I do love 34 boulevard st Germain scent which I plan to buy and Eau duelle edp I love their candles too and have purchased many over the years I would love to smell violette because I LOVE violet scents if you want a beautiful violet scent try Maison Violet poupre d'automne divine violet scent! One of my favourite diptyque candles was one called John Galliano it has been discontinued but I want to try the natguile candle & the pomade candle i love heavy smokey scents like Tom Dixon's fire candle

Oh my gosh this was fun to read. Hello friend in Australia! I tried Benjoin Bohème and adored it but couldn’t bring myself to spend the money since I had already shopped so much. Also loved the Boulevard one that smells like the shop and look forward to trying others (smoky, ambery, etc). I was a little sad re: my Guerlain Champs Elysées experience because that was not at all how I was treated in 2018 when I visited and hope it was out of the ordinary! Great to hear you had a nice Louis Vuitton trip! Oooh! Take good care. 💛

@@savorsalvagescent2300 we are all looking forward to your next chapter Amy! Oh well when you receive treatment like that you just have to remember its a reflection of them and not you! I've been elsewhere in Europe & had similar if not worse treatment I thank God im lucky enough to live in Australia & I can imagine USA would probably have even better customer service but let's focus on the positives of the trip I'm very much looking forward to your next clip oh and another beautiful violet powdery makeup scent is Misia by Chanel that one is divine also!

@@GEORGIA385 i adore Misia but don’t own it. I have to say overall the French have been incredible to me. This was just a couple of rare crappy customer service experiences and I assure you it is a plenty in the US! Lol. Plenty of good stuff too, tho!
