I too have been watching R.R. Slugger's vids in the last year and I feel like a huge revelation has been brought to me when you pointed out that he has that Patrick Bateman cadence.
You people might laugh at this, but as someone who studied design, the thing with that little elongated piece is pretty on point. It's not really a good piece to design sets in Lego, and the problem is in industrial settings working with injection molding plastics, if you tool the molds you HAVE to use them in order to recoup the investment, as the tooling is a pretty expensive process. So the designers at Lego were probably dying on the inside, knowing they fucked up, and had to sell thousands of these pieces in order to recover the money spent on the molds, and thus you're forced to use this piece for the following year, forcing it in every set you can until you sell enough units to finally discontinue the piece.

I like many others was recently blessed by the youtube algorithim with his videos and have loved him ever since. Saw the title of this video and was almost worried, his videos are--and I mean this in the best way--so unnaturally precise and genuine, wouldn't be hard to see him in a padded cell with Rock Raiders schematics and analysis scrawled on the wall. It's very funny to hear such genuine reactions and back and forth between you two about his videos, too. Maybe I'm just not aware of it but often the Lego related content I watch on youtube is pretty solitary, one person reacting to official stuff, reviewing, building huge mocs, etc. It's super niche but refreshing to hear, genuine back and forth about such a meta topic, already within a niche hobby, and not trying to be family friendly (not that there's anything wrong with, but obvs rare for lego videos). Feels like an exchange I'd have if my friends were into Lego, good vid 👍👍
BATEMAN: You like LEGO? ALLEN: Um, yeah, they're pretty cool. BATEMAN: Their early themes were a little too basic for my taste. But when Rock Raiders came out in '99, I think they really pushed the limits, both creatively and technologically. The whole theme had a realistic, industrial look, and a new level of detail that really gave the sets a big boost. They've been compared to other mining themes, but I think Rock Raiders has a far more adventurous, daring spirit. ALLEN: Hey, Halberstram? BATEMAN: Yes, Allen? ALLEN: Why are there LEGO bricks all over the place? Do you... Do you have a kid? A little nephew or something? BATEMAN: No, Allen. ALLEN: Is that a tool belt? BATEMAN: Yes, it is. In '00, LEGO released this; Rock Raiders: The Movie, their most ambitious project. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Chrome Crusher". A set so impressive, most people probably don't appreciate the details. But they should, because it's not just about the thrill of exploration and the excitement of discovery. It's also a personal statement about the LEGO company itself. Hey, Paul! Bateman murders Allen with a LEGO brick.
Good taste, sir. Slugger's a true gem- a rock to be raided- if you will. Anyone with a passing interest in LEGO should check him out at least once. Happy to see him take this so well.
Welcome to the Lego community where we obsess over the entire history of a toy brand, but even then this guy comes off a bit odd for us, like a mixture of Patrick Bateman and Nick on Planet Ripple. I feel like he has read all 381,614 pages of Brickipedia.
I recently got into lego as an adult. Ive been watching slugger off and on for most of this time, but in recent days, I've watched him a lot and been recommended him too a lot. He has improved over last year's course, for sure. Can't wait to see your video. (Haven't watched yet.) His recreations of the builds from that mining game are bonkers!
There are some fyn lego channels, but his puts all of them to shame. His production values are incomparable, and he also does it all in his free time, as a hobbyist, with no sponsorship. This summer he crowd funded having a month off work to make videos full time and his output quadrupled. No doubt the single best UA-cam channel I've seen.
R.R. Slugger actually is the only Lego channel I watch with any regularity. I'm not even into Lego! His videos are just so good. I'm here BECAUSE its a video on R.R. Slugger.
My theory: R.R. Slugger has the ability to clone himself, and each clone assumes a different task for the production of a video, such as animating, voiceover, and editing.
Dude has someone who has randomly been recommended slugger videos in the past week, I did not realize how much of a Lego nerd he really was until these dudes were describing it.
Thanks to this video I found out we still have all the Galidor figures at home, I dont even remember them or Galidor at all, but my brother got super hyped after I showed asked him about it.
He's quite smart with the stop motion, making clips that can be utilized in multiple videos without feeling like you're always seeing the same B-roll in every video. Fun video! The perspective here was quite amusing. It was also amusing to see my comments make a few guest appearances near the end, too!

This is the first solar sands video I’ve been recommended in a while and I was so surprised to see you talking about R.R Slugger 😂
R. R. Slugger is easily the BEST Lego UA-camr I have come across in a very long time. His content is high quality, educational, and wholesome. 10/10
God forbid R.R. Slugger ever gets ahold of a brick remover and escapes his plastic cell…
So happy to see Slugger getting the recognition he deserves! Dude puts a lot of time and love into his videos and it shows
The Lego Man Reading a Book labled „Coping with high IQ“ at 14:15 is the Perfect visual metaphor for this entire Video
Legends say that was R. R. Slugger himself.
I've been watching rr slugger ever since his earliest videos, his channel is one of a kind, so happy that he's been getting more recognition
Bro the American Psycho bit was spot on 🤣
Us R.R. Slugger fans should call ourselves the "sluggies"
Hey that's somebody that I've actually subscribed to! Good to see someone else covering him
Good taste, sir. Slugger's a true gem- a rock to be raided- if you will. Anyone with a passing interest in LEGO should check him out at least once. Happy to see him take this so well.
The irony of an art youtuber talking about the absurdity of someone taking lego so seriously.
Its more about Sluggers presentation.
Because he puts so much effort into it? Something that most people consider a toy?
@@shramo Yeh, Sands its suprised but also respects how seriously Slugger talks about Lego. Using complex words, with its own soundtrack etc.
Welcome to the Lego community where we obsess over the entire history of a toy brand, but even then this guy comes off a bit odd for us, like a mixture of Patrick Bateman and Nick on Planet Ripple. I feel like he has read all 381,614 pages of Brickipedia.
The more I think about him the more in common I realize I have with him
@@maximum_rebo One of us! One of us! 😉
Lego stop motion/brickfilming is the peak of human civilization
R.R Slugger is like the defunct-land of legos the dude is an artist.
That is an immensely flattering comparison! While not at all true, I am humbled by the compliment - thank you! 😊
This is so crazy, I am sure Slugger is going to blow up now
Love his videos so much
I love how you guys literally die laughing over the word "slugometer" and random transitions and marvel at the capabilities of this funny man.
I love slugger, so glad to have found his channel last year.
Actually the longest 14 minute video I've ever watched, how the hell did the guy bring up the plague when talking about lego ⚰
Slugger.
Aww, thank you! ❤️
@@RRSlugger came here to say me too (but still a lego fan)!
Yessssss I’m so glad you guys are talking about him! I found him a couple months ago and I’ve binged all of his videos so many times by now!
Aww, awesome! I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying the channel! ❤️
My theory: R.R. Slugger has the ability to clone himself, and each clone assumes a different task for the production of a video, such as animating, voiceover, and editing.
That would be awesome! 😂
Sorry solarsands but this guy is officially the best UA-camr
I like how with most UA-camrs like this you can immediately tell what their personality from their PFP
r r slugger sounds exactly like sheldon cooper
Truly it is. . . The year of the slugger. Let's gooooooo
Dude has someone who has randomly been recommended slugger videos in the past week, I did not realize how much of a Lego nerd he really was until these dudes were describing it.
Neither did I, hahaha. 😂
@@RRSlugger yo
the slug-O-meter😭😭😭
I love ole slugger, he will go on a entire tirade on one lego element or color.
RR slugger is great, the point that stood out that made me stick with him is randomly putting an Alpha Centauri reference in a joke video
Haha, I *love* Alpha Centauri! ❤️
9:34 this reminds me so much of the matpat minecraft memes
where he's talking about some really intricate history of some random tribe, only to circle back to minecraft
Theory: the Lego company was originally founded by a time traveler who was sent to stop this guy from taking over the universe
this is a crazy coincidence I literally just started watching him last couple days and am already a big fan
Was not expecting to see slugger on a channel this big, good for them
This man is who I would elect for the next American presdent.
Very sorry, but I am ineligible to run for office in your country - I’m Canadian, sorry! 😅
@@RRSlugger Then run to be the next Canadian President.
@@WildEngineerGamer Unfortunately, we don't elect Presidents - we elect Prime Ministers! 😅
Oh well, I'm sure I'll find my calling in life one day...
