It has been a solid 10 years, probably more, since I genuinely played Minecraft. Within the last month, my daughters have gotten back into it, and they drug me along. The number of changes is staggering: raids, illagers, the deep dark, the wardens, the overall world generation, ore distribution, smoker/blast furnace, phantoms, fish, drowned, shipwrecks, ancient cities, glowy vines, and a whole lot more. I completely understand his reactions here, as I have just went through them myself. There are noises that make no sense now, and I am almost always sure that it means doom. I ran into deep dark biome generation while mining at the iron level (y=16). The shriek-howl when I accidentally triggered that first warden spawn was nightmare fuel. I ran. Like a girl. I never saw him/it. I just ran back up to the overworld. After some reading on deep dark biome, I ventured back far enough to discover that I had stumbled upon an ancient deep dark city. I capped that leg of the mine. I do not see myself returning there anytime soon. All of that led me to looking up & watching more MC videos...which is probably why YT's algorithm suggested this video. I have a newfound respect for some of the die hard MC fans, and their ways to twist some of the game mechanics in their favor with things like mob, raid, food, and XP farms. And creative ways they go about handling things like warden spawns.
Y'know I was gonna comment about how the iron level is at like, 236 now, but then I remembered that a) you don't often get that high and b) 16 is still second best

This gameplay reminded me of classic days' gameplays. No making farms, no rush, no super complicated builds or megabases... just calmly exploring the game and discovering unknown things. I don't know this channel but this was pretty enjoyable.
there's a mechanic called "saturation", it's basically when your hunger bar overflows it makes you heal faster, depending on the food, they give off different amounts of hunger so like, if you eat raw fish, it's absolute not worth it, cause your hunger bar is just gonna fill, and it won't overflow a lot health regens by consuming your saturation, so the better the food, the more saturation, and the faster you'll heal
@@Nordde i think golden carrots are the best one, there's a mod called "appleskin", which lets you see how much hunger/saturation each food gives off, i don't play minecraft unless it's with a couple of my favorite QoL mods
5:17 It's always been like this in the game except you used to mine it and get iron ore to smelt, this is just an improvement to make fortune on pickaxes work on iron now. To my knowledge, there has never been a version in which it drops iron ingots, I checked version 1.0 of the game, the very first official release version, and it dropped iron ore to smelt. Probably a Mandela effect because I also used to think it dropped iron ingots. This is all the same case with the gold as well. EDIT: I just now read the pinned comment but I am keeping this up here to remind you of your past mistakes
the little "eeh" sounds were actually axolotls, you can pick them up in a bucket and put them in a aquarium, they spawn in in lush caves which are caves with those weird vines and lights, they can also help you clear ocean monuments by fighting the guardians and granting you regeneration
Man, the latest version of minecraft I played was 1.8. I've still played modpacks on older versions, but probably not for around 5 years. I can't imagine what has changed. I know I saw somebody playing the other day, and he threw down a campfire to cook a little meat. I guess I figured that was the best way to do it in current versions, but it was comforting to see you slap down a couple furnaces and go to town.
Nah. Campfires are slow. The best way is still furnaces. There’s even a furnace variant called the smoker that is made to specifically cook food faster
Campfires are only really good in the early game. They don't require fuel once they're made, so you can slowly cook food without having to use up any resources. I rarely use them myself, because I start finding coal / making charcoal immediately.
