Nice video. And adding a piece of wood through a hole and screwing it i place before fitting a cut piece of plasterboard is a great idea! The simple ideas are always the best, especially for someone as useless at DIY as me, lol
I don't suppose you would be able to show us how to do a repair like this but on a wall that has a large rectangle hole? In my situation I had a very wide 3 switch for the lights and need to put a new one in a third the size. I'm not sure how to do it neatly. Thanks.
if you don't want to drop the wood behind a wall, place it behind a plasterboard, whilst holding it add a screw right in the middle of the wood and you have a little handle! you can then position it where you want it, screw to the plasterboard and remove your temporary screw at the end.
I've seen many videos describing this way of repairing a hole but what frustrates me is who has a scrap piece of plasterboard kicking around to use as a patch? Certainly not feasible to buy an 8x4 sheet just for a repair patch. Maybe there's a gap in the market for someone to produce small patch sized pieces. 😊
They do sell 2'x2" repair boards, in the USA!!!!! Depending on your property, and level of desperation, you can look in the loft, under the floor, bath or kitchen units. There may just be a scrap piece kicking around.

The hole I have is smaller than this. Should I make the hole bigger so that I can fit a piece of wood through snd stuff?
Your bit of wood changes position when you use the hole saw. Is that because you saw'd through the first one? :D

I’ve seen a lot of videos suggesting mud and a tape. Your method seems simple, is there a downside to your method. Will cracks appear later?

Didn't bother with scrim then that will probably crack in the future 😮
